'Tis a shame, as the Vita is a lovely bit of kit. It's like Sony's R&D department had this sudden moment of brilliance, in which they designed a truly fantastic piece of portable hardware - powerful enough to run virtually any modern game with only minor caveats, capable of most modern control systems, what with it's physical controls encompassing two fantastic mini-analogue sticks, it's two multi-touch surfaces, it's two cameras and it's motion-sensing controls. And then Sony, being Sony, couldn't content themselves with such brilliance, and decided to fuck it royally by ensuring all marketing and business decisions surrounding this mini marvel were done by totally fucking braindead idiot fuckwits.

I'd say it was a totally unbeliveable situation to have such a fantastic piece of hardware and still fail miserably against the competition, to so decisivly steal defeat from the jaws of victory, but then we're talking about Sony, so it's actually totally believable. They're kind of becomming the new Sega, although the Sega fanboy in me is very uncomfortable with drawing such comparisons.

So, been playing the soul sacrifice demo.

It's really seems to be rather good. Not entirely sure I know exactly what's going on, and could certainly do with a bit more finesse. But could be the first properly special Vita exclusive. Maybe.

FUCK YOU EBAY. Outbid in the last 2 seconds for one of these. Fucks sake.

What with PS+ and PS4 looking like you'll need one to get the most out of it, I want one suddenly. But not for many pennies.

I'm watching two more auctions that'll end in five hours and I'll make bids in the last 5 seconds. Or is that leaving it too long?

It's worth trying it. If nothing else it will stop you going over the most you're willing to pay for something. I've lost track of the amount of times that I've gone over by a couple of quid in the dying seconds, just to secure the item.

The Vita is a great little machine though, I can't see you regretting buying one. Admittedly mine has pretty much been a Persona 4 player for the last couple of months, but still. I did have a quick go at playing God Of War HD on it via Remote Play yesterday and was surprised by how playable it actually was (the image on the screen was a little fuzzy sometimes and there were occasional dropped frames - but no real perceptable lag in the controls), which bodes well I think for the PS4 where apparently every game will be playable remotely on the Vita.

I am super winner man!

Thanks for the sniping suggestion, The Vision.

Only thing is, I'm looking at the sellers info and they've never sold anything before with no feedback. I've checked their address out on-line which appears at least to exist but I'm still worried about sending my hard earnered dollars that way.

But a deals a deal I suppose, so I'll have to send the monies and take my chance. I can't log into paypal through the ebay page at the minute so I've emailed the seller to ask for their paypal account details direct so I can send them the money now.

Make sure you read up on the Paypal small print details so you're covered.. just in case.. also, re read the item description just to make sure that you're buying what you think you're buying.

I'd be a bit warey of doing that - just another wrinkle to sort out if anything does go wrong.

I could be interested! Tell me more. Is it boxed? What condition is it in? Does it come with any extras and what can it do bow that it's hacked?

Post subject:  Re: Playstation Vita

Not sure about a box -- I think I had one, and I usually keep boxes, but I haven't seen it in ages. It's probably in the attic. It would come with a carry case, a couple of memory cards with various ROMs on, charger, etc. It's in generally good condition but has two small scratches on the screen. Oh, it's the slim-n-lite one, the PSP-2000.

I don't think it's worth much. I'll take some pictures.

Thanks for that Doc. Colour me interested! I would like the box too if possible so if you have got it, that would be great.

What kind of systems does it emulate? I was hoping that I'd have a portable PS1 but to be honest, I haven't looked into the PSP emulation scene properly yet so I don't know if that's possible.

It actually does the PS1 very well , its okay for SNES and Megadrive but your GPWiz will do those better.

There is some faffing about to make the PS1 games compatable (or there was when I last used mine) but 'most' PS1 games can be made to work on it at full speed with the correct controls

Post subject:  Re: Playstation Vita

Maybe we should have that dedicated PSP thread? I would like it to run PS1 games and Lynx games. The Wiz won't do Lynx games and I have a hankering to play California Games.

The PSP will play movies as well won't it? The bigger screen might make them watchable on a lunch break at work.

Yes it will but you need to convert them to the right ratio and format (your phone can probably play them easier)

If you want to play Ps1 games on a portable then get one - it does that much better than anything else out there.

For other emulators MAME / SNES / UAE etc are going to be better on your Wiz (no idea about Lynx emulation on it)

Its dedicated games are good (lots of retro packages which work really well and it has a great Ghouls n Ghosts game / good pinball games) and the screen is really nice for watching TV or movies just the faff to convert the files around put me off doing that much.

Post subject:  Re: Playstation Vita

Last time I tried to use Lynx emulation, it was pap. Other systems are better but you tend to need to overclock the CPU to 333MHz to get the most out of it.

Post subject:  Re: Playstation Vita

Yeah, the PSP plays PS1 games just fine.

I also watched some media on it, but like others have said it needs to be converted correctly.

Sorry, lads. I'm away on hols now, so I'll do the thread in about a week.

In the meantime, google firmware 660PRO-C2 (I think that's mine! 6.60 is current, and this one is just a flash of that). Easy.

And this: http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=8026

Lynx is perfect, as I recall. And PC Engine! And of course, PSOne, as Sony enabled that in the firmware.

Post subject:  Re: Playstation Vita

Might need to take a look at that. My PSP is still on CW 5.50 or thereabouts I think. To be honest, I've barely touched it since getting the Vita. I'm a little gutted that I've missed out on all the various chances there's been to load PSP homebrew on the Vita through bugged Mini apps as the only thing a PSP has over a Vita is the ability to run emulators. Even actual PSP games are much better played on a Vita.

If you mean 'running custom firmware that allows you to play downloaded game ISOs' then I did mine in about ten minutes. With the later ones (i.e. the PSP 3000) you apparently can't make it permanent but it just means you having a file sat on the memory card which you run whenever you switch the thing on. The PSP then automatically reboots and that's you ready to go; it's a piece of piss.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/362 ... C_3536.jpg

PSP-2000 with 4 GB and 8 GB memory cards, charger, case, GTA: Vice City Stories on UMD. 5.50 Prome-4 custom firmware (I brought this full up to date about a year or so back).

I'm certain I have the box somewhere but it's probably under a ton of stuff in the attic. Haven't located it yet.

Currently on the memory cards (all booleg obv):
4 GB: MAME4All PSP v4.9r2, SNES9x emus (with a bunch of ROMs)
8 GB: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Half-Minute Hero, Tactics Ogre, Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker, Persona 3 Portable, Valkyria Chronicles II, Ur-Quan Masters (near-perfect remake of Star Control II), SCUMMVM (w/ Day Of The Tentacle, Indiana Jones, Sam & Max, Secret of Monkey Island -- all talky versions), DGEN (Megadrive emu), Final Fantasy Tactics: The War Of The Lions

Most obvious reason not to buy it is the light screen scratching (visible in the pics). It's not enough to bother me in use but I can't claim with a straight face that it's in mint condition or anything. The screen front material on these things is a fairly soft plastic (it might be polycarbonate) and it tends to accumulate scuffs very easily, even when carried in a case.

It's also possible the battery is a bit tired. It's quite old now. I believe it can be replaced quite cheaply.

I have no idea what it's worth. A quick look on ebay suggests 'not much'. Make me an offer if you want, but I won't be offended if you don't.

:this:

Precious little 'hacking' involved. Just update to the latest firmware, then download the posh homebrew version of it. Then it plays emus - no sideloading or whatever. If you turn it off, you need to run the mini-reboot thing again, but that takes five seconds. If you put it in sleep mode, you don't even need to do that.
