This has been commuter game of the last couple of weeks. Really enjoying it.
Which bots are your preferred companions? Payday and Beatriz seem to be my regulars, though I feel bad for leaving my buddy seabrass at home so often. He's now too many levels down, as is the red neck bot, whose kill shot could be a valuable perk if I'd known about it earlier.

And what brilliant music in the bars!

I favour mobility and fast killing, so Sally (for Kill Shot), Payroll (for speeeeed), often Piper for Inspire/heal (but I don't often give her sniper weapons), Ivanski (for heavy weapon support and tanking when I fuck up my party movement.)

dangit, I knew I made a mistake neglecting Sally. She's a lowly Level 2 and I'm a couple of missions into the third act.

Don't know if you tried Neon Chrome, a ps plus freebie recently. Just started it and seems to be a very enjoyable rogue game. Cyberpunk setting, excellent synthy sound track.

I have. I initially hated it because it's one of the Vita games that uses too much RAM, so you can't go into Settings without quitting the game. But then Bose fixed the bug on my headphones that meant I had to toggle Bluetooth on and off before I could get sound, so now I think I can play it again.

Ha, I've been having the exact same grumble with my Sony headphones and this game. Sadly i have to stick a lead in to avoid rebooting the game. Cyberpunk my arse.

My old LG Bluetooth 'phones did the same thing. I assume the Vita does something weird, and Bose have added a workaround. Hurrah for buying headphones with user-updateable firmware I guess.

It doesn't look to be out on the Vita yet (Vostok).

Post subject:  Re: Playstation Vita

So the other option , and I know this is messy is to use a US account on your vita

We have some things which are not available to the Americans / Canadians (for no real reason) and they have stuff that's not available to us

Sign out of the PSN store and then click this link (if you are signed in - it will try to take you to the European page which does not exist)

https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-ca/games/super-star-soldier-(ps3-psp)/cid=UP0555-NPUF30010_00-SUPERSTARSOLEH06

Which will take you to Star Soldier (the game mentioned in the thread above) which is compatible with the Vita and costs $6 (Canadian)

Games on the Vita *are* region free , but you cant have more than one account on a memory card , and to switch you need to turn the vita off / swap cards / turn it back on and wait for it to rebuild its database which is a faff if your doing it on a regular basis.

I didn't get terribly far. Got stuck on a millipede-type boss on the second level and stopped playing. Will return at some point. Message, thrillingly, to be continued.

That's the toughest boss I think. Mostly it's about learning patterns. It has three phases where it spits out variations on mines and offensive drones. Keep moving and keep dodging those mines. Swap your attention back and forth between clearing the drones and attacking the boss. When you attack the boss, focus fire on one section to drain its shield and then destroy it before moving back to clearing drones. If you damage a section but then wait too long, it'll regenerate, which means you wasted your time. I mostly prefer the assault rifle for this, but the shotgun can do in a pinch; the ion variants do more damage against mechanical targets. If you have no choices you can make do with the SMG or burst rifle. With shotguns, you'll have to get close to focus the spread onto one or two segments of the boss's body. Most of the "special" weapons (the purple ones) are too situational to be worth bothering with, I stick to the basics.

If in doubt, start at level 1 and play up -- you'll be more upgraded when you get to that boss. Best classes are hacker (for money) or cyber psycho (for sheer damage dealing.)

If it comes to it, you can just grind out some damage and health upgrades by playing through as hacker a few times. Buy those and the "slot" upgrades for cybermods much more than you buy luck or energy. As hacker, get rid of the drone when you run out of upgrade slots, it's less useful as you play further.

Best cybermods: try and get the +30% damage against bosses one. The one that gives you +40% energy, combined with the one that gives you money for energy every time you complete a level, will net you +1500-2500 per level you complete, which is loads. All the ones that boost health are worth getting, as are the ones that buff movement speed for dodging. Buffs to reload speed are good. Perhaps my favourite is the one that makes the first shot out of each mag do explosive damage -- it's huge, and turns high level shotguns into one-shot-kill guns against almost everything.

a little obituary:

Bought my second hand vita 3 years ago for about 100 euros (just before we knew of the switch)...

still, mine has such a nice library =, all fitting on the included mem card
- Geometry wars.. so beatiful on the screen
- TempestX
- God of war: Sparta (psp)
- pong (psone)

- pixeljunk shooter ultimate...
-resogun (the pleasant surprise when you get this for free because i already had the ps4 version)
- monkey ball
- luftrausers
- Everybody's golf
- EDF!
- Hitman
-Katamari
- Minecraft
- Downfall.

it's just a perfectly formed little arcade heaven on the go.. (which is kind of funny, since sony always gets the 'only focussed on home console and not on portable experience'-rep, but that gave space to these lovely third party games, still looking so beautiful)

Rayman Legends
Sky Force Anniversary
Fez
Deadbolt
Iconoclasts

Vita was the only platform you could split up in Spelunky. Every other platform you had to stay on player one’s screen.

Shame the PS4 streaming connectivity was rubbish as it would’ve made a great portable PS4 otherwise. I did love my Vita for a while but sadly Sony dropped it like a stone. I doubt they’ll make another.

In the later levels you can get absolutely wrecked in a heartbeat and go from max health to nothing so I find that crystal dude can really get you out of a pickle. I’m always looking for a shotgun/grenade launcher combo to get me beyond world 3 and above. And as much health as humanly possible.

I bloody love Nuclear Throne. It’s The Tits.
