Oh, I see. Well, I'd be happy to 'help' either way, but I had incorrectly grasped the situation, ja.

I do think though that RW is a decent username to try against - and arguably, 'head' and 'war' are potentially offensive...

Oh, that scuppers my plan. The one my mate made a few weeks ago did. I'm sure I have enough 24 hour free trial cards to sort it out though.

I think your tag is neither obviously totally inoffensive or really rude. I need the extremes I'm afraid.

Sorry, Richard, I haven't been in all day and haven't followed this thread but do I have it right that XBox live have made you change your gamertag because your actually surname is 'not allowed'? I thought someone had to complain about your tag for MSoft to ban your name? Has some plank actually complained about your name?

Mimi - eek. Er. Basically... go to the COD4 thread, about two pages back. At LEAST.

This is what happens when the most exciting and interesting forum-related event is hidden inside one thread about a stupid boy's game that only Bezzie Mates play for Cuddles. Even with this thead.

I wonder if 'cockburn' would be allowed?

My cousin wasn't able to join Facebook because his surname is 'Stiff'.

OK, CUS, I'll go and find that thread and have a read, cheers :munkeh:

Awwww, Richard, that's really crappy, and I think you are taking it very well. I would have been really upset to have found out that my name 'wasn't suitable', I think it is a bit of a joke, really, and I hope that you get a real apology and some kind of compensation. mostly, though, I hope that they back down and change your name back.

Hoho, If you think I'm taking that well, you should go and see the 600+ comments on Kotaku, hundreds of comments on Digg, and thousands of comments all over the internet pointing out I have a silly name :p

#comments" class="postlink">Here is a master list of links to places I've found talking about this. Not complete, but most of the major sites, I think.

Well, the list is really for my own use y'know. So I can check back in on threads every so often and stir the comments back up. This place has been in a permanent tab on my browser on all three machines I use since it opened. I don't need to maintain links to it ;)

I'm not going anywhere near your great grandfather's tradesman's entrance. You're not fooling me with that one again.

Also, I put the damned link on the damned page. Don't be surprised if my mates are all up in your face now, asking what's with that beard and stuff.

It got memed to fuck by doing the internet in a day then reaching the printed media. Always nice to see something local get big on the internet, I like being vicariously part of 'internet events' by association of forum membership, y'see?

It would help if I elaborated I expect.

I want two people to each register a new gamertag. One will be offensive and one very inoffensive -- I won't put the names in here as I don't want them turning up on Google. I'll PM them later. There is some tedious typing for this bit, sorry. You each send friend requests from your new tag to the other person's normal tag then launch a quick game of CoD or summat (new gamertags come with 1 month of free Live Gold), one person with your new tag, one with their regular tag. File a complaint and repeat but the other way around. The upshot is each new tag receives a complaint from a normal user account.

I don't want to be one of the people as I don't want any special treatment in Xbox HQ about this. Hence also why I think the complaint should come from a game.

I think both new tags will have to change their names once the complaints are processed, as I think MS are rubber stamping the complaints. Alternatively, neither will have to change, which proves MS are not handling complaints properly. Either way I get ammo. The worst scenario is they get it right and only change the offensive tag, in which case WE FAIL.

Is anyone else up for this with myoptika? I won't lie, it is a bit of fucking around, but I hope this will be worthwhile.

I believe you need more than 1 complain before it takes effect?
Ergo, pm around the username's (once they're done) and we can all use our live accounts to join a game/get complaining?

Apparantly not. MS's policy is that when the reviewer sees the complaint they have no visibility of who complained or how many complaints were made -- just that there was a complaint.

I only had one complaint about my tag unless there was a second from a random internet person.

Did someone you know complain about the Gaywood one then? :S I'ma little confused as to how all this "went down".

edit:
Some links for your enjoyment.

blatently offensive names:
http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/prof ... raight+man
http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/prof ... merTag=gay
http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/prof ... g=straight

blatently offensive petitions:
http://www.petitiononline.com/GAYWOOD/petition.html

I wonder who the hell starts these petitions? Or indeed complains about Gaywood.

Jonarob's sad because he no longer gets the time to read any of these threads, so ends up presuming that everything's cliquey because he doesn't understand them.

You got a predictable response on SA where the consensus was you're an idiot for not changing the name and you deserve it.
