I'm rubbish at fighters, too. Everybody who doesn't have a serious practice regimen is. I find MvC3 to be more accessible to the button-masher than most, though. It's still very technical, but you can by with a few combos comprising simple jabs, launches into the air (the 'special' button is nearly always the 'launch' button), air-jabs, then launches back down, etc. :p

My experience of MvC3 was that, sometimes, if you did a "fireball" move, something would happen. Sometimes, it wouldn't. However, sometimes pressing 'A' would make the FUCKING TV EXPLODE INTO AWESOME.

I loved it - especially the DavPaz character.

Hmm. I had a dream about that film the night before last. And do you mean Eric Stoltz?

It would be interesting to try MvC3 with the easily activated supermoves turned off. At the cottage, I was trying to do the normal moves (you know, down, down towards, towards + punch) and getting killed by people just mashing punch and kick to fill their supermove bar and then unleashing hell.

I haven't even tried the 'simple' control style. Sounds daft! Maybe that's why some of Grim's fireballs weren't coming out...

It really is a game for the hardcore. It's insanely fast (the games of the day, SFII and MK, are leisurely in comparison) which means you want a proper arcade stick to stand much chance of doing the moves. It's not aided by the 360's famously shit dpad (remember when we all got SFII in that 10 XBLA Games deal?). I have Darkstalkers 2 on Saturn and I have no problems with either the old-style official pad or my AsciiPad, but MvC3's blazing speed (Spidey is a bastard) makes it even harder.

Ultimate MvC3 is just sheer cheek.

Did you chaps notice a lot of screen-tearing when you played DR1? It's mainly during the cutscenes, but it's rather distracting. Having fun with this, though! Only played it for about half an hour, but so far I love the sickle! :DD

I never notice screen tearing ever, so

Are you using VGA?

I believe so. The only people I've heard complaining about screen-tearing in general seems to be using a VGA connector. Join the digital age. ;)

Some people actually still have non-RROD Xenon's/Opuses with no HDMI, you know.

I've used VGA ever since I had my Xbox 5 years ago, and when it broke down, I got an Opus, so still no HDMI for me.

Dead Rising never used to tear on VGA, but Microsoft did something in one OS patch or other - it was the one that added colour reference levels for VGA users (previously, using certain set-ups would result in a horrible washed-out display).

After that, tearing all over the place in cutscenes if you're set up to use any resolution above 1280x720.

Don't think I've played that though, unless maybe I saw it in the demo. I may also be completely making this up.

I've recently started Dead Rising 2: Off the Record. The funk of having to run through the same story again is massive. So disheartened. But then I started the new Sandbox mode and everything's turned brilliant. If the cutscene at the beginning doesn't make you smile, you're one of the zombies.

I recently went through it as well and the way it changed some of the big set pieces was enough to keep it fresh enough for me to get to the end (although it does introduce one or two really bad boss fights) - the challenges in multiplayer are not bad but some are just a pain (especially the 'get to this point in this time limit' because they count the time your stuck in an animation)

I could do without the jump-scares they've added in.

They are really f*cking annoying and they even repeat them - using the shortcut i took to going the 'long' way around the room so the full screen would be in view since the stall you go to almost always had a zombie in it to jump' on you :-(

One or two - fine - but they really over did them.

There is also a crappy boss character you'll hit later who comes back to life multiple times and each one needs a special way to damage him but he has no 'injured' animation so he'll just hit you for lots of damage all the time (however at that point you'll have plenty of item slots so can fill them up with drinks to just spam him) , the other part that they did fix (but i dont really think was broken) is the respawn points - yes if you die and reload from a save point you go back quite a long way but if you simply let it respawn you then your typically only back to the last door you went through (so no real consequence of dying)

I like the way you can have two seperate saves for the Story and Sandbox modes, but sharing the same character. It means when I inevitably get bored of the story, I can just load up sandbox and kill things.

Not sure how far you are through it but you do hit a point where you need a lot of money and although its possible in the story mode it really strongly hints that you should use that chance to move over to sandbox to stock up on some cash (i did and miscalculated so ended up with way more than i needed)

Main storywise, I've yet to be able to get back to the safehouse after meeting whatserface at the Hotel. She disappears after you escort her to the security room in the arena and tells you to meet her back there. My weak, palsied legs are unable to have enough fastness to reach the safehouse before the timer runs out. They look like big, strong legs... don't they?

Thats a problem with the new 'save' system in that you can end up in situations like that - if your somewhere near a bar remember you can mix up 'quickstep' which may help you get there before the timer runs out

There's the bar in the middle of the Americana, but the faffing to make it would take up more time than just trying to walk there.

I'm glad they sorted out the save system then. No, hang on.

I miss this game though. I had immeasurable fun co-op'ing the shit out if it unlike any other game ever.

I *liked* the save system from the first one , it had the risk / reward balance set quite well but it seemed that a lot of the criticism was around the fact that saving was limited and the people wanted that 'save anywhere' stuff so they put more save points in , and then put in the checkpoint system as well.

Its going to depend on the items around there but picking up and mixing /using the drink will probably still be quicker than your normal movement - other things to help if the timing is really just a few seconds out will be leveling up / jumping past zombies / jump kicking groups out of the way (or if you have a blade weapon the jump slice does give you a good method for clearing a path) - but it may simply be that you dont have time in that save (i'm trying to remember that bit and I think my issue there was that I was battling a boss and saved when i beat him and the timer had already gone to red - i tried a few times but just revered back to my save before the boss and went back to the safe room first then came back out to get him)

Only kidding love, I liked the original system too. I don't know who these people are that complain that these games are too hard or even why the developers should even be listening to them. They should have their hands mangled to stop them touching a keyboard. If Dark Souls gets an easy mode I'll smash my own testy's off.

I'm going to put this here since I cant find a dedicated Dead Rising 2 thread and I can see that a lot of people have picked this up since its free right now on XBL , its mainly just a few notes and hints (only one spoilorish thing that i'll put spoiler tags on)

Okay - my suggestion would be to play the game through twice , the first time play it and just focus on the main missions and the 2nd time go and try to do the side missions as well.

I played a while with some other people yesterday (the first time I'd tried the multiplayer) and it made the boss fights *much* easier (it does help that i'm at the max level and can carry about 12 items) so if you are stuck then fire out an invite and get someone to help.

Although you get guns in the game (if you know where to look) they really are not worth the time to use them , I almost exclusively used blades (the swords off the wall in the casino are a simple and easy weapon) , and for boss fights using a combo weapon with blades is the quickest way to knock their energy down.

Also - when your playing at the start its great fun to just run around and dispose of zombies in interesting ways - but when you want to do the missions just ignore them and run through them , it takes a bit of practice but you should be able to run through groups without much of a problem and if they swarm then a jump kick is normally all you need to clear a path.

Although you can stock up on magazines which are as effective as the books in the first game you dont really need them as the weapons are so easy to come by.

A few simple combo weapons which are effective are :

Knife + Boxing gloves (boxing gloves are in the window of the shop to your left when you come out of the first tunnel and there is a bowie knife on the top of the paper stand nearby) - this is probably the best weapon against most bosses.

MMA gloves + nails (sports shop for the gloves and nails are everywhere) - another quick and effective way to take down bosses

Baseball bat + nails (both inside the first room) - a really quick and effective weapon for normal zombies but a bit too slow and underpowered for bosses

Axe + Sledgehammer (axe in the safe room , sledgehammer just at the door to the first mall) - a very slow weapon but good at wading through zombies (for a *lot* of PP) , hold down B to just spin around and knock them all down , you can use this on bosses but remember that your weak after using it for a few seconds and if they go into their animations they are probably going to knock you down.

Remember you get *more* PP for killing normal zombies using combo weapons if you want to level up.

Drinks :

Most drinks will give you back large chunks of health (orange juice and milk being the best) , but you should also look at the drink mixers in the various bars , typically add alcohol + a snack food to get a potion which will give you full health back (and make sure you have at least one before going into a boss fight) , you can also use the white one (quickstep) to double your speed to get to specific events if your running out of time

Zombrex :

At the start it seems you'll be running short on this but there is a lot of it around , some people will give you it for saving them and there are a good 4 or 5 just in the environment , two quick ones below

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
In the casino with the ribs bar as you enter - go upstairs and jump along the light fitings to get to an area with a gun , some cash , a book (gambling?) and a Zombrex

In the casino with the pyramid climb up the side of the pyramid to get a zombrex at the top

The hardest fight in the game is about the end of chapter 4 - how I managed it :

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The fight against the twins , you only need to kill one but they will both take you down really quickly - stock up on health potions and dont be afraid to grab the alcohol around the room even though it will make you throw up - I went in with knifegloves and took a lot of damage but also took a freedom bear (teddy bear + machine gun) which i placed in the middle of the dancefloor - so when i ran around the area it shot at them - it did fall over a lot so you do need to keep resetting it but I found it did a lot more damage to them than me hacking away.

Dead Rising 2 (and the DLC, especially if I remember, right) is ridiculously good fun in 2 player. It was like a whole different game when you're helping each other out to finish all the missions. I remember that chef guy near the Casino was a complete bitch to kill but it was funny as hell in 2 player when my mate had to take it in turns to run off to get health or a weapon leaving the other getting his ass kicked by the (deeply unfair) killer chef. "I'M COMING - I'VE GOT A PLANT POT."

... you had to be there though.

The only tip for DR2 I can give is to find the banana sling downstairs at the Pallisades Mall, put it on then restart the story and play until the safehouse vent cutscene. Enjoy! Dave did.

Playthrough 1 completed for DR1

I did not look back at any hints or solutions , just went with what i remembered - details below in the spoiler box , good ending , unlocked infinite mode , 36 survivors saved

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Started by just doing the first mission and trying to rescue some of the earliest survivors and being overrun , main weapon of choice was either baseball bats or the katana (on the awning next to the food place at the start) about 3 or 4 'deaths' and going back to the start and re-doing those few I managed to get to the first night when the cuntvicts took me out
Next time I took them out , and went to get the chainsaws but only with melee weapons and the clown smashed me up , i reloaded this one and went back and grabbed the gun from the cuntvicts jeep to take him out
From there I grabbed the chainsaws and nothing really troubled me after that (apart from Isobella's bike which i had to switch again to guns for)

I'm sure when i first played it you only battled the cuntvicts once , but for me until near the end - every time i went into the outside they had respawned
Also I'm sure i only could have 2 of the mini chainsaws - but again each time i went back to the spot there was another to pick up (so even with the books i could have multiple 'spares') - i remember relying on the katana as my 'clear' weapon in the past and only used the chainsaws for the bosses but this time i could just mash anything that came at me.

The AI is still as busted as ever , its busted in your favour when the baddies just stop on a wall and you can take them out without getting hit , and its busted in the most frustrating way when the planpot in the first area gets knocked over and all your rescued followers cant work out how to get around it so they all stand there and run into it until you go back and manually lead them around

Overtime mode gave me more of a problem as i was 'caught' before i saved so lost all my items and the chainsaws did not respawn so had to go back to normal blades which were more of a problem to take down the special forces.

Ended the game around level 40 so plenty of health blocks and invntory slots

Have to decide to go back and just mow down the zombies in the maintenance tunnels for the mega buster , or move on to DR2

Nope, the cuntvicts cunting respawn all the cunting time. Cunts.

DR2:

I'm 48 hours into my first DR2 play through. Have abandoned the cases after 4-1 involved fighting the twins and I just wasn't levelled up/good enough to beat them. I have enough Zombrex for Katey now, so I'm going to finish this playthrough and start again after. I'm up to about level 20 so far so it should be easily doable then.

Easily the hardest battle in the game , I remember using a teady bear with a gun and just drinking the vodka around the place anyway to keep my energy up - remember you do only need to beat one of them

Yeah that one was a bit tough. I've already forgotten how I beat it in the end, but it probably involved hard liquor. Also in the game.

Actual for realz spoiler (don't read if you don't want any help):

I seem to remember there was a shotgun or something behind the counter just before entering the battle area. Also, there is a restaurant very near with a blender.

There is another bar outside a bit to the left of the entrance (when coming out), where I believe you can find a sword in the garden area behind a sculpture, or something like that.

So i decided to go for the Zombie Genocider achivement , and at the start - racking up a few thousand kills fairly quickly i was thinking this is not so bad ....

however it does drag , and when you go round the loop and look down to see you've only gained 600 kills :-(

On the plus side with all the PP i have hit max level and can mop up some of the other smaller achievements this time around - currently at 30,000 kills so running for a little while tomorrow should pop it

I did Zombie Genocider on the 360 first time around. The mega buster is well worth the time investment.

Zombie Genocider done - I now just need to get to an ending to unlock the megabuster

For your enjoyment the last 10k kills (around 30 minutes of driving round the tunnels)

I did start up DR2 (just to get things going) only to hit an odd problem which seems quite widespread
Starting the game while online results in a blank screen for around 3 or 4 minutes after the (c) logos come up , the game then starts and seems fine
Starting it offline it works straight away

Yeah I have that problem too. I just start it off and then make a cuppa or something. Same issue with OTR as well apparently.
