How will we know when we are all free to play?

It's impossible isn't it? If only there was a way...

I appear to have internet here at Castle Parents, so I'm free to dip in from time to time this Christmas... :)

CS is making me it's bitch again.

I was better at smack talk than I was at the game today, but I made some shiny new friends. Some guy on the other team said that I was "getting carried but still mouthing off", and as luck would have it I killed him four times in a row, making sure he knew it each time. The forth time won us the match, and he typed something like "FGRT&U^&UY%$HN%&UY$%YU%&%Y%$UY".

Lulz!

I'm playing this! On a PC! With a mouse!

I like it! I even ranked up to a sniper rifle that time! That means I'm good right!

That was all kinds of brilliant fun actually. Kinda like the Gun Game from one of the CoD games (BLOPS) where you level up your weapon and it's the first to reach the top rank. And my PC was holding up easy peasy plus it was fast, frantic, looked nice enough and I've no idea if I had anti-aliasing on. I don't know what that is really. Actually I didn't have to muck around with any of the settings presumably it just stuck it to optimum screen beautification. I thought CS:GO from the 360 demo was all square and drab looking but this was pretty enough for an arena based shooter pew pew. Yeah, me likey.

I was quite getting into it earlier. Apparently it supports the 360 pad so I might spend some quality time with this.

You might find yourself getting humped if you use the pad as you won't be able to move your sights as quickly as everyone else.

There's something that doesn't feel right with FPSering with a mouse and keyboard:

1) Clicking, clicking, clicking to fire doesn't feel satisfying to me. Certainly not as natural or tactile as shooting with a trigger.

2) Moving with keys has given me an unnatural habit of pressing W near constantly to move around. I can't reverse to save my life.

3) Actually, yeah, spinning around was a thing but I was getting so hammered by the opposition I don't imagine a pad could make it any worse. If I play the more thoughtful bomb planting games I doubt the need to spin around rapidly will be such a problem.

I'll play around with it and see what I like best.

I can't imagine using a pad to play a twitch shooter. Good luck!

It may take a while to reprogram your brain to K+M, and that's if you even want to as it'll probably de-program you on pad.

A mate of mine switched to primarily console gaming in the 360 era and struggled terribly with a pad for FPS games at first, but after enough play (a lot of play!) it became second nature to him and he became entirely competent with a pad, to the extent that he now finds K+M quite onerous to use.

There's nothing fundamentally 'right' or 'wrong' with either, but as Bamba notes, if you're playing a game where both control methods are allowed you're going to do very badly against the K+Mers if you're using a pad, as from a purely objective perspective, K+M is a far faster and more accurate control method for FPS games. (Particularly so for CS.)

Huh. I can do both of them fine.

I should put it on my CV, or something.

Well, I can still do KBAM controls but they annoy me now whereas it used to be my preference; and I genuinely couldn't use a control pad for FPS' at all originally. I suppose Hearthly's description doesn't actually describe me perfectly as it turns out 'onerous' has a more hardcore meaning than I thought.

I just like the word onerous.

It sounds like it could be a category on xhamster.

:this:

Although learning to use a pad did have the odd side effect of flipping the y axis on the mouse.
I still have no idea why.

OLD THREAD RESURRECT.

CSGO has now found its way into our Saturday night games list, despite some initial grumbles from the Battlefield diehards - ('Where are the tanks? This game is shit', 'Shut the fuck up', and so on) - the timeless purity of its fast-paced and very skillful chap+gun based combat has won it a regular slot. (The fact it costs just over a tenner has helped everyone get on board too.)

Even 100% maxed out in every regard it's not really much of a looker (amusingly, my 970 hardly scarcely spins its fan up), but the gameplay is as superlative and pure as ever.

Generally speaking I host the server, and then we'll do a 3v3 or 4v4 (depending on the numbers) with no bots, on a variety of game modes and maps, tending to stick to the smaller maps for faster and more zingy games. (Best out of 20 in Demolition mode on 'SmallDust' for example, where the rounds are only two minutes long and are often over quicker than that.)

If we were being L33T about it we'd split off into two Teamspeak channels but we all stay in the same one for banter and taunting and general abuse, although we impose a very strict rule of NO GIVING GUIDANCE TO YOUR TEAM ONCE YOU'RE DEAD. (This can lead to some cross words being exchanged, as when does encouragement cross the line into advice? 'Go on Matt you can kill these motherfuckers!' for example, is not the same as a 'Careful!' - let's have a heated debate.)

Fantastic game, probably my longest-lived game ever in active service (certainly online), since I've been playing it on and off since 1999.
