To be honest I hope they've not changed too much just a new campaign and some more terrorist hunts would do me fine. Been playing a fair bit of RSV2 with my nephew this week and I now can't wait for another one.

I love the first game even though I never completed it. Shame no one seemed that keen on co-op as it's the most fun I've had with a military shooter.

It's well worth picking up the second if you haven't played that. Split screen co-op too.

About fucking time. R6V2 was a brilliant game, with the best co-op of any 360 game to date.

Yeah, my plan was to get it after finishing the first...

When are we going to get SWAT5, dammnit?!

Also, I hope they build in some sort of easter egg so that you can use Kinect to give a specific hand signal to your team and they all start dancing.

Or an IK+ style easter egg - give them a hand signal and they all drop their trousers.

Ooh, doing the hand signals on kinect would be epic.

They'd bloody better take out that awful grinding system. That was the worst thing about the otherwise great second one. Also the terrible final boss section.

Oh, and SORT THE FUCKING PC MULTIPLAYER OUT, goddammit. It's what, 3 years old? And every single time I play it, I have to try to connect at least forty times for every level change. It's ridiculous, and they've never even attempted to fix it.

Heh. There's a reason I have a sniper rifle, guy.

Also, yeah, SWAT 5 first, please. It's getting silly now.

I've got a 360, and the first one on it. So nerr.

The gun unlocking was awful. In the first one, if you pick a gun up, it's added to your armoury. Brilliant. In the second one, if you want to use most of the weapons, you have to kill about 50,000 trrrrsts. By which point you've played the game to death and there's no point in having the unlockables anyway.

I've never played either RSV so I've picked up the sequel today for a couple of quid thanks to this thread! It better be good or you owe me a fiver.

Notwithstanding SA's (accurate) criticisms, RS:V2 is a cracking game. I did the whole thing in co-op with myfinger and we had a blast.

Post subject:  Re: New Rainbow Six Game

I can't really say that the gun unlocking thing bothered me. Mostly because you don't unlock exciting toys that let you the game in a new way but just some guns that are slightly different to the ones you already have.

Post subject:  Re: New Rainbow Six Game

I put R6V2 back into my 360 last night in honour of this thread.

Terrorist Hunt? What a pile of wank. It's not so much a "Terrorist Hunt" as a "Enter Room, confirm it's clear, walk in to next room only to get bollocksed by a load of terrorists in the previous room that have magically appeared from nowhere."

Terrorist Hunts were much better in the original Rainbow Six games, up to Raven Shield. The terrorists would be standing around doing jack shit, or patrolling areas, they wouldn't be completely invisible until you hit a pre-determined point on the map whereby they'd suddenly appear and fuck your day up.

R6V2 terrorist hunt was one of the best modes ever in a game. If you played it on realistic level with a high enemy density it was a great challenge.

The thing about the terrorists appearing from nowhere was a bit annoying, but I thought it was good as they sort of appeared to investigate the gunfire.

Really looking forward to playing the new one :)

Post subject:  Re: New Rainbow Six Game

Gazchap is right about the teleporting enemies. They were the only major problem with the terrorist hunt mode, and meant hat games would often end completely unfairly.

Oh, absolutely. They're still excellent games (the second one in every way but the unlocking thing, so on balance still the better game), and well worth getting.

Just don't get them on PC though. It so happens that I tried to play this last night with a friend. Over the course of an hour, we had to try to connect over 150 times before the game would let either of us in. And we still never got to play together for the same reason. Forums across the internet have shown that the online service has had major, ridiculous problems for three years, and Ubisoft have done absolutely nothing about it. And I bet they wonder why everyone despises them.

Hmm, a bit more about this here:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011- ... ts-preview

I don't care about the stupid story so I hope there's not too much of it: "it's really important that you understand the character that you're about to play". Yeah it really, really isn't, though. I am bloke with guns trying to stop the other blokes with guns from killing me. That is about as much narrative as a shooter really ever needs for me. I have no more need or interest in facing moral choices or whatever than I do playing R-Type. You're making a game concentrate on making it a good one instead of a shitty film.

Anyway still it sounds promising and there are certainly aspects that could be improved but I pretty much loved the other games in this series and I hope they don't fuck it up in a stupid attempt to ape other massive selling shooters which nobody buys for the story either.

I've seen references to them 'making changes' to the cover system. Which is worrying, because it's the best cover system ever.

Yes. Plus the game's facial capture technology makes itsallwater's face look fucking horrific.

Entirely accurate, then.

Heh, that was great in the last game. It always cheers me up when I go into cover to see my permanently grinning character, nice to see a special ops type chappie who apparently enjoys his work. They look miserable as fuck in most games.

Post subject:  Re: New Rainbow Six Game

Erm, is this thread about the New Rainbow Six game?

Well I played the New Rainbow Six game, y'know, the one without any campaign? Yeah, well what I played was not quite as slick as I'm used to (I've been spoiled by playing New Uncharted and New CoD today in 60 fps silky goodness) (yea, and while this is manageable, it doesn't feel quite so silky smooth to me. I don't know what the frame per second are. Obv.) it was still massively enjoyable. I had about an hour and half at a friends so I've not played much of it.

And I mean MASSIVELY because this is brilliant from what I've played.

At one point I had fiendishly covered an approach to a bomb that I had to protect. I had a clear view of the room from a wee corner where I was crouched behind a box. I laid down some barbed wire on the floor to stop an approach through the main door which I had left unbarricaded to invite the baddies in and then erected a defensive barrier on the other side of the room so they thought that's where I might be. As eyes would be on disposing of the wire and targeting the corner of the room with the shield I would pop up from behind a box and mow them down with the shotgun.

As my team died I was almost chuckling at how fiendish my plan was.

BOOM.

The wall immediately behind me was blown out and a guy rushed through the large hole, stuck his glock to my head and ended me. It was fucking brilliant.

I've heard some peeps liken it to Left 4 Dead and whilst it isn't as crazy crackers as L4D it has that vibe going on.

The Terrorist Hunt (...or Horde Mode as it actually is) was pretty decent despite being a riff on the usual horde modes of most games. Protect some hostage against 4 waves of baddies or break into some place, grab the hostage and get out of there: either way it was terrific fun.

The destructible scenery was also very good and probably why the game doesn't run quite so smooth.

I've got a serious pang to play some more of this and might have to pick it up.

I was really peeved when they removed the planning aspect from Rainbow Six (I want to say it was Raven Shield that was the last game to feature it, but I'm not even sure if it might have been one of the ones before that?)

I guess that's why I liked Frozen Synapse so much.

Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield was the last, best Rainbow Six game. Vegas 1 and 2 are just door option choose 'em ups. (They're still quite fun though)
