I ate at The Restaurant at Ribby hall last week and had Chateaubriand.

Best steak I have had by quite some margin. £48 for two so a damn good bargain for that quality of meat.

Pearl was good but not great, we upgraded to the £60 menu, starter of salt beef and crispy oysters was very nice, main of veal was a bit disappointing and slightly tasteless, dessert was ok.

Nice enough, but I don't think we'll be going back.

Dunno if this place is any good, but this special menu sounds like it would tempt me if I lived in London: http://benscanteen.com/road-trip-dinner/

Possibly relevant to your interests, London Beexers.

Interesting.

If I get my arse in gear, I'm going for dinner on the 10th floor roof of Peckham car park tomorrow.

Intrigued. I have reached 33 without having had beef candy floss. That appears to be something that should be addressed.

Maybe they're just being honest and giving each item a mark out of ten.

Interestingly, I don't think there's a single American dish on that 'US Road Trip' menu. I was going to give them the Banana Cream Pie until I saw that it's basically a tres leche.

Mmmm. Third-hand cuisine.

In response to the Trainspotting soundtrack being a phenomenal success when released, they released a second CD of songs that were "inspired by" the film. As I recall, at least 50% of the songs pre-dated the book.

To be fair it was actually songs that "inspired the filmmakers or (have) been inspired by the film". Not that it isn't still a ridiculously cynical cash-in of course, but at least they weren't really trying to actually rewrite history.

We went to Vermilion last night, a thai-Indian fusion place. The tiger prawns were THIS BIG (easily 8 inches long)! And the jungle curry was alright.

But I felt rubbish today and Helen got the weird 'rough tongue' sensation excessive msg gives her so maybe I shouldn't be posting in here after all.

Just had lunch at Jimmy's Farm.

Really good. Fairly simple stuff, but beautiful meat and cooked marvellously. Maria had a leg of lamb that was amazing, and I had some top notch roast pork, with ALL THE CRACKLING IN THE WORLD.

Pics to follow at some point.

:D

Nice - the TV series he did was quite good.

We went to Hedone in Chiswick the other week. It was excellent food, particularly the grouse, which isn't something I have often.

Grouse, guinea fowl, pigeon, etc...
All foods that fit into my "Too much effort to bother with" bucket.

I'm the same with Fajitas, "you mean I have to actually make my own food at the table? Fuck that, just bring me food I can eat without making me work for it."

Oh, if they brought me a bird, sure. But I got a leg and a breast. The leg was perfect for gnawing the meat off, and the breast was obviously no bother at all.

There's something delightfully primal in eating meat directly off the bone with your hands. Particularly chewier cuts, like the beef ribs I made last week, for example.

We went to our local curry house last week, to get one in before they shut for refurbishment.

They were clearly running the pre-prep low to avoid wastage, so it was all brilliantly fresh. Best curry ever, and not just because I upped from my usual "mixed achari but extra hot"* to "mixed achari but extra hot and can I have some chopped fresh chillies in it as well please?"**.

Obviously I got the leftovers put into a washing machine ready for lunch the next day.

* This isn't actually hot, because their demographic is "middle-class middle-aged south-manchester-almost-cheshire"
** This made it actually hot, but not too hot, and much better than when I ask for it "vindaloo hot" which ruins the achari flavour without adding any more heat at all.

Had the Dill Scandinavian Tasting Menu at Texture today. Michelin starred, with the former Head Chef from Le Manoir.

Lovely.

Maria's fave was the smoked salmon with cucumber snow and horseradish mayo. Mine was the roasted scallops with wasabi.

Om freaking nom.

I think that was my favourite when I went. Although I believe its proper title is smoked salmon with cucumber snow, horseradish mayo, and dill.

ERMAGHERD!

Just had the most amazing rib meat roll from The Ribman.

So much meat, really tasty, excellent BBQ sauce, and a side of HOLY FUCK SAUCE.

My belly is full, and my mouth is on fire.

No.

I could feasibly go buy a bottle. Though he actually has two hotter sauces; 'Christ on a Bike' and 'Holy Mother of God'.

Dude also only has one leg.

Either that, or he mis-wiped when it came out a few days later and had to amputate.
