Mm. The Wii one is at least done with fairly quickly. Seems like every online round I've played though comes with at least one chap who will always choose Rainbow Road until the game finally lets him play it. And then votes for it again afterwards.

Yes, I added you to both our accounts - sometimes it sems to take ages to be accepted - Romanista took a day and a half to 'show' on my account, but it happens eventually. it helps if you both happen to be online at the same time at some point, apparently.

I'm back home for the weekend and so have been playing this on my sister's Wii - not sure if it'll let me keep the same Friend Code when I transfer the save onto an SD card. Fingers crossed!

Are you sure that you can transfer the save to an SD card - some games won't allow you to do that and I have a feeling that is going to be the case with this...

Aah! Sounds right, I added a load more people earlier and one came through instantly, probably because she was online at the time I added her. I've added everyone here now anyway.

Aye, I would like to know this too, I'm about to add everybody (from the OP at least to begin with) can I just add the kart number?

I'm not in the least bit sure. I'd be massively surprised if it allowed me to do it, particularly as the license seems to be inextricably linked to a Mii I just made up on the spot. Still, my online score is something desperately unimpressive like 5105, so it won't be a disaster if not. I'll post my friend code on Wednesday.

Yesterday evening i did the last of the 50cc cup. I started there because returning to them to complete everything and probably unlock some stuff after you've done everything else is really boring, and this way you get to know the tracks. Go0t Rosaline and the 50 wins kart, amongs some other karts now.

Those unskippable end credits get longer every iteration of MK, don't they?

I'll update the first post with the numbers of yesterday..

don 't think repeadly voting for the same is too bad: i mean, if you like the course and want it too be played (and it's actually helped by the game as it is the fastest option, so if you don't really care). After it has been played it should have been blocked though (although if it was we might have bene complaining about that: "We want to do a coconut mall championship" etc... )

can you vote for 2 different circuits if you're online with 2 people on the same wii, i've seen only the same votes when playing thr0b and friends?
and RR is no fun at all indeed, it is just something you 'have to do' at times

Romanista after winning it, yesterday

Woot! Being nice to my girlfriend for the past week and and dropping hints for the past month or so has worked and she bought me the game.

So here are my details if anyone wants to add me.

Two online friends on the same console chooe teh same course - they can't choose separately.

Rainbow Road makes me sad, but I did the 100cc special cup last night and can now play as my Mii :)

Yup, it says on the box, it's a bit annoying, but compared to double dash, where you had to unlock the entire fourth cup by winning the whole 100cc it is an improvement..

mimi, playing the rainbow road didn't make me happy, but winning it made me feel relieved..

(incidentally, playing with miis you have to unlock with pro evo as well, a new trend?)

Yes, I remember the first glimpse I had of a Rainbow Road in another incarnation of the game - I thought 'oooooh, shiny', but five seconds in and I was feeling a mite angry...

On unlocking Mii's: I think I might knock up a little article for Beteo/BEEX about the psychology that Nintendo have employed for MK. I think it's really interesting. This game is as much about drawing in new players as altering the perception of people who perceive themselves as 'hardcore.'

I think.

Yeah, I don't mind repeated voting (in fact I do that myself); it's when a course has been played and someone continues to vote for it that I find irritating. But like you said, if they had blocked it we'd probably complained about that, so I guess Nintendo can't win...

After finding my first run through Rainbow Road nothing but a struggle, I won the second time I played it, and won on Rainbow Road a couple of times online, too. I think I might actually like it...

Blocking voting after a course has been raced wouldn't have ben a very fair way of going about it, though - with the online races people join and drop out after each round - your opponents are a constantly shifting stream of people, so to block the same course from appearing more than once would be difficult to implement. I don't mind the system as it is - I have so far encountered only one person that has voted for Rainbow Road so as long as that doesn't keep repeatedly being the course of choice I do not mind.

Favourite courses, people? I love the Coconut Mall - mostly because I love seeing pictures of my nan, grandad, baked bean Boy and Dog the Bounty Hunter whizz by on posters, and Gandhi and Hitler trying to park their cars - their is also another track (Luigi Circuit, perhaps?) that has a huge statue of a Mii - once it was Craig, once Gandhi - and that tickles me.

I love the integration of the Miis - it makes the experience quite lovely and personal and keeps me smiling.

Although, I must say - I don't like the racing suits that your Mii wears - they make you look like you are wearing a nappy.

Have you not played Coconut mall, yet, Mali A? It's a great little course - The Mii's pop up all over the place and it's as much fun to watch as to play - there are other places the appear on other courses - in toll booths, on giant posters and all sorts - I shan't tell you all of them as it's so much fun spotting them as you race around - but go through the 50cc cups and just get some more of the cars and and all of the courses unlocked.

Will do.

Although Mrs A kept shouting "It's FAGBALLS" when playing coconut Mall. Which made me laugh.

I would have bought this by now, but the Zavvi near where I work is rubbish, and despite having a poster advertising it as being 'Out Now' (which they didn't even have Friday of last week) they have no copies, or shelf space where copies used to be.

As such, I will give someone else my cash for this game, as those useless spanners do not deserve my money!

I've added as Mario Kart Friends everyone in the First Post, so anyone who would like to add me my Maro Kart Code is: 4253 3623 1340

I don't really understand the other code yet, so this seemed simpler, but I'll add people via the Wii one later.

Cheers my dears.

I dunno, but I've just managed 1:23.025 on Luigi Circuit, and the whole on-line ranking thing is starting to get it's hooks into me just as it has on the 360. It's very addictive to download someone's ghost who is just a little bit faster than you.

I'm up for doing this each week, it's acebest.

it is selling

Quote:
Nintendo overtakes Sony’s ‘Gran Turismo 5: Prologue’ at the top of the All Formats Chart as ‘Mario Kart Wii’ records the 8th biggest launch week ever in the UK. ‘Mario Kart Wii’ is far and away the biggest launch of any Nintendo published title. It’s also bigger than the launch weeks of all 5 other Mario Wii games combined (Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario).

Mario has performed heroically on Nintendo’s next-gen format with Wii games featuring Mario accounting for 21.2% of all Wii units since the launch of the console in December 2006. There are now 4 Mario games in the All Formats Top 40 with Sega’s ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ down one place to No3 (behind ‘Gran Turismo 5: Prologue), ‘New Super Mario Bros’ at No23 and ‘Mario Kart DS’ an All Formats Top 40 re-entry at No30. ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2008’, another strong performer on Nintendo Wii, is a non-mover at No4, while Ubisoft’s ‘Rainbow Six: Vegas 2’ continues to lose ground, down 2 places to No5. Sales of ‘Condemned 2’ from Sega fall by 20% in its second week, down from No5 to No6, while Activision still have an All Formats Top 10 presence thanks to ‘Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock’ only falling 2 places to No8 and ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ climbing one place to No9. The new DS and PC versions of Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’ help it sneak back up the chart, up from No27 to No15, but otherwise there are no All Format Top 40 new entries this week to compete with the blockbuster ‘Mario Kart Wii’.

well Matt (wosser) is faster than smooth bob, cam close now somewhere in the 1.23s now too, after i excanged some challenged with throb i became a bit addicted too.. leaderboards on a nintendo systerm that work, yeah!

Twice I have had my first 2 laps in the low 27s If I'd have matched that on the 3rd lap (instead of hitting the grass) then I would have a time of about 1.21.5 or something. Which I know I can get if I get all 3 laps right... Instead I'm in the low 1.23s

I've added everyone on the wiki (apart from Mali A - no offence, it's just that I thought they were in chronological order, but that one was before other people who I had already added)

This is not a good thing!

It looks like extremely good fun going from what's been posted here.

The 360 live experience has soured this somewhat, as ALL games benefit immensely from smacktalk and twaddle which the Wii just doesn't support.

Or am I wrong?

I suggest we all make sure our computers are near our Wiis and use some sort of voice chat to overcome this. Or just get Grim... to phone us all up and put us on conference mode (I am sure he can afford the bill)
