Big Ears Linke-ker is munching a bag of crisps when the camera fades into him. He quickly hides them under his clipboard...

"What a game we just saw. Real one sided stuff with GAZCHAP having 63% of the possession and really deserving a victory but all he could muster was a draw against THEVISION. Gazchap scored early on leaving TheVision fighting back in the second half to score a classic 'run at the keeper and curl it in' goal. The final score.. GAZCHAP - 1 THEVISION - 1"

Thanks for the game Gazchap!! We were excellent to each other.. not one foul in the whole game! I'm really looking forward to the rest of the tournament... I wish it had been about 12 years ago though. I was good at Sensi soccer then.

Needs more Alan Hansen.

But yeah, good game. Trés enjoyable, you had a couple more cracking chances towards the end there that could have seen you taking the match.

Don't be, Curio is a mong. As there's three teams in a group there will only be one player who has two games each fortnight. You only have the one game to play.

Curiosity - sorry I missed you, I came on around 10 but you were in a game of CoD 4. Left to do something, took longer than I thought I'd be and by the time I came back you were offline. Are you free tomorrow evening (or even later today if you see this)?

I should be on tomorrow night, and should be drunk, giving you a further advantage.

I completely forgot to play either of my matches, even though I was in a game of CoD with Sheepeh!

Zombie United took on The Forumites in what was a close fought battle. It could have gone either way, but a goal just before half time gave the Zombies a great breakthrough. Despite some pressure in the second half, the Forumites couldn't get a goal, and the Zombies stole posession and played the ball forwards for their striker to net a second from close range and seal the victory, which they comfortably held on to for the remaining minutes. The game ends 2 - 0.

I had the exact same problem last time we ran this cup... I always have loads of shots... they just never go in.

I'm going away for the weekend, so I won't be around at 8pm tonight to sort this out. Current tables as below:

Image

Mark X is going to find it tough to qualify from the group of death now, it seems, although at this early stage all is not lost. The clash of the titans met in Group B with Romanista shading it - I don't want to predict who's going to top that group! Only one game played in both Groups A & C, so not much to talk about there - the less said about Group B, the better...

Opinions on whether Runcle should be replaced or we should wait until he has his new Xbox? Can Dimrill/GazChap and Curio/Sheepeh get their games played ASAP please?

Fixtures for Rounds 3 & 4 are below. You have until 8pm on Friday 27th June 2008 to play these matches:

Fixtures - Round 3

Sheepeh vs Scarysheep 3000
Mark X vs Romanista
TheVision vs Dimrill
Goatboy vs myoptika

Round 4

Curiosity vs Scarysheep 3000
Ramsea vs Romanista
GazChap vs Dimrill
Runcle vs myoptika

Good luck, everyone.

Why would I play Dimrill again in round 4 but not have a match in round 3? Dimrill and I are gonna get our Round 2 match played tonight with a bit of luck.

You play Dimrill in Rounds 1 & 4. The round robin repeats itself after three rounds, but with home and away teams switched around... might be worth playing both games at the same time tonight.

D'oh, if only I'd seen that post beforehand.

Anyway.

GazChap (Forumites) 1 - 0 (School Dinners) Dimrill

A warm-up match before the main event ended with a goal-less draw that saw both teams shatter the woodwork to pieces on a regular basis. Final possession was 50/50. Moving on to the actual game, some rash fouling by GazChap in the opening minutes raised eyebrows. Both teams had a roughly equal share of the possession and goal attempts, the woodwork again taking something of a battering from both sides.

Late in the first half GazChap's midfielder was sent off after a particularly vicious foul, and his star striker was substituted in the middle of the second half after a nasty tackle from Dimrill left him writhing on the floor in agony.

The chances continued from both ends, with Dimrill's players putting up a sterling effort and managing some good tackles and clearances. Unfortunately, in the 90th minute GazChap managed to leg it down the field and curl one off into the back of the 'net.

That certainly suits me, as I probably won't have much spare time in the week before then.

myoptika (Zombie Utd) 2 - 0 (Forumites) Goatboy

Group D finally gets underway with a win for myoptika's brainmunchers. Although I had most of the attacking play, Goatboy lead a valiant rearguard action, repealing wave after wave of undead shooting.

After hitting the woodwork twice, I finally managed to find the net after 30 mins. I could only relax midway through the second half after slotting away a second. Goatboy had two great chances in the second half, firstly to equalise and then to get back into the game with about five minutes left.

All-in-all a good game and well played to The Goat.

Lulz, had a really enjoyable game where I went down 0-2 to myoptika, brought back memories of playing against mates on the Amiga and ST. I'm starting to 'get' SWOS again now, having had it sat on my drive for ages, but I need to learn how to finish properly before I bother playing much online, I can create openings but my shots are fucking hopeless.

Well done Myoptika!

Curiosity (Zombies) 2 Scarysheep 3000 (Forumites) 1

In a match that was exciting without ever threatening to become a classic, Curiosity's Zombies took the lead through what looked like a jinking, twisting and turning run of genius by the striker, but was actually a cack-handed attempt at keeping the ball in possession. The shot went in though, so it was 1-0.

Shortly before half time though, the Zombie keeper passed the ball to the opposition for the second time, and the striker made no mistake. 1-1 at half time.

In the second half it was end to end action, but the Forumites copied the Zombies by passing the ball to a defender who was caught in possession. One diagonal shot later and 2-1 was the score.

Despite a post hit for either side, and a ridiculously long goalmouth scramble in front of the Zombie keeper, nobody could net again and it ended 2 - 1.

And after full-time of the football* is good for me.

(*The semi-finals of Euro 2008, that is. Not the SWOS football.)

Practice match beforehand in which Dimrill narrowly beat me 1-0. In my defense (or rather, not, as the case may be) one of my defenders got sent off.

Dimrill outplayed me for the "real" match, with 55% to 45% possession and a significantly higher number of shots, as well as shots on target. I managed to scrape an equalizer back in the 72nd minute (after Dimrill scored in the 31st) but he quickly responded and went into the lead again in the 84th minute. There was no way back.

I realise it's a bit late for me to type this now, but I've simply not had a chance to get on SWOS tonight. I shall keep an eye out for you online over the next few days, as I'm tantalisingly close to getting my free time back.
