Semi-Final Draw:

Romanista vs myoptika
Dimrill vs Curiosity

I tried to think of a way to rig it for myself, but then realised that all of the other three are really good anyway. :(

Remember that this is a two-legged affair, so the winner goes through on aggregate. NB: away goals do not count. If the scores are level after two games, another must be played until there is a clear winner.

I'm not putting a strict time limit on this, but if you could have your games played sometime this week, that'd be great.

9pm GMT is 10pm BST isn't it? That's quite doable. Shall we agree one warmup match followed by the two that count (just in case we have comms issues)?

Dimmers... I'm free tonight, big boy!

P.S. Could you please get drunk first so I have a chance of winning?

ah, i meant 9 your time, 10hrs my time (central european summertime), I try to be there until a bit later than, but later then 10.30pm is too late for me

will we do a forumites/emotions overkill combi?
1 friendly is good for me

incidentally, i saw you completed all swos achievements now, did that take long? i tried to get that last one in march, but after 4 times my opponent quitting when i was 3-0 by half time i gave up

Dimrill and I cheated by both entering 10 min ranked matches - there was no one else playing them! I could help you out tonight after our matches if you want that achievement?

9pm my time would suit me better actually - I'll see you then.

We could possibly help each other out with the achievments if you like? Isn't the one of them about playing online and winning by more than 5 goals? We could manage this to help each other out I'm sure!!

You have to do it in ranked matches, which is slightly more tricky. However, as hardly anyone plays the game these days, just both enter into a ranked match for the same length (try 5 or 7 mins as it's more likely no one else will be playing it) and you'll magically find each other.

This is what me and the Dimdums did, anyway.

Bloody hell, what a dramatic semi-final day at the BeeX Stadium.

After an action-packed "friendly" (I use quotation marks as I managed to get two players sent off) which finished 2-1 to myoptika's Forumites, we both had problems connecting to each other, which resulted in a bizarre situation where we both saw different teams on the same player selection screen and the game crashing out when the players arrived on the pitch!

A frantic reboot later and we were into the first leg of the semi-final proper! It was an even first half with clear-cut chances for both teams, including an amazing miss from Romanista where the ball was stationary on the goalline.

However, our Dutch master wasn't worrying about that a few minutes later, as on the stroke of half-time gained a corner and took the lead with a slide at the near post. Romanista 1-0 myoptika.

1st leg half-time score: Romanista 1-0 myoptika

An equally tight and tense second half ensued. No further goals were scored until in the 90th minute Romanista broke away from a lacklustre defence and slotted away a second! Romanista 2-0 myoptika

It was the last kick of the match, and at the halfway point in the tie, Romanista was ahead by a clear margin.

1st leg full-time score: Romanista 2-0 myoptika

I knew I had to score (and score early) to stand a chance of getting back into the game. If I managed to let Romanista score again the game would be all over. So what happened? Romanista only went and scored early on. It was now 3-0 on aggregate and it looked like there was no way back for the hosts. At least I'd done better than Switzerland and Austria, I thought to myself. Romanista (3)1-0(0) myoptika

However, this game was not yet over, so I tried to make the scoreline respectable. When a consolation before half-time was curled in from just outside the box, no one could quite believe what was to happen next. Romanista (3)1-1(1) myoptika

2nd leg half-time score: Romanista (3)1-1(1) myoptika

I can't quite remember how it happened, when I scored and how because it was all a blur, but suddenly the momentum shifted; my hands loosened their grip on the controller slightly; my long passes started finding their targets and I managed to score again. Romanista (3)1-2(2) myoptika

After what seemed like only seconds later, I had the ball in the back of the net again! Romanista (3)1-3(3) myoptika

I then tensed up as I'd realised what I'd done. Suddenly passes from both teams were going astray, there was last-ditch defending on the goalline and silly free kicks were given away. I don't know the next sequence of events except that I managed to scramble the ball into the goal once more to take a 4-1 lead on the night and a 4-3 advantage on aggregrate. Romanista (3)1-4(4) myoptika

The last 12 minutes of the match were simply terrifying. I did all I could to keep the ball away from my goal and I don't think Romanista managed to have another proper attack.

As the final whistle went I couldn't contain my delight, but made sure I gave a lot of praise to a worthy opponent. I wasn't sure how I did it, because I wasn't in the game for the first match and a quarter. What an epic semi-final, and one I was proud to be a part of. Bad luck Rick, you don't deserve to be a loser the way you played.

Final score: Romanista (3)1-4(4) myoptika

Our first BeeX SWOS Cup finalist: myoptika

Thanx for the kind words my optika, it surely was an amazing semi finals, compliments for the 'never-giving up spirit'

It truely was one of those miracles of club football, which happens once or twice in any clubs excistence.. It reminded me of Deportivo La Coruña - AC Milan of a few years ago

The emotions were as strong as they can be with real football. I sat confused for 30 mintues after a game, drinking some wine a looking around, but felt proud to have participated in such a game.

Why i lost, probably because i started thinking too much after the 1-1, and not just letting my muscle memory speak for itself.

I hope the final will be as good.

Or, indeed, some at each end.

I'll try to invite Dimrill for some SWOS action at some point soon. I might be out tonight, so it may have to be tomorrow. Or Sunday.

Surely one of you could have your Xbox connected to a DVD recorder and somehow bung the final onto YouTube?

Ah, HDMI. Maybe not. The Xbox 360 is more than capable of recording entire matches, it's a shame they didn't bother adding such a feature.

Oh, and is it so wrong of me to wish Romanista had won that semi-final and subsequently the final, just so I could go around the forum casually mentioning how I'd beat the Official BEEX SWOS Champion in the group stage? That's a rhetorical question, because the answer is "yes, it would be".

Sorry. I've been super busy. Haven't even turned the 360 on for a few days.

I'll be available tonight to get the games done.

Right, Dimrill's away until the weekend, then I go away for a week. Can the second semi-final be played at some point next week ready for the final upon my return?

Second Semi-Final.

Leg One.

Dimrill's School Dinners took on Curiosity's Zombie United.

The first half saw domination from Curiosity. Shots were flying towards the goal of the Dinners, but were mostly either wide or directly at the goalkeeper. Dimrill had a few bursts forwards, but nothing came of any chances.

0-0 at half time.

Second half saw Dimrill take the game by the scruff of the neck, creating opportunities, but only to be thwarted by the Zombie goalkeeper. Then Curiosity had a break, the ball went up and one of the Zombies came in at an angle and belted the ball into the net.

Dimrill 0 - 1 Curiosity

The rest of the half continued in much the same vein. Dimrill attacked and attacked, hitting the crossbar with one headed effort, but it looked like Curiosity was going to take an advantage into the second leg.

But wait! There goes a School Dinners player and it's a late equaliser!

Dimrill 1 - 1 Curiosity

A very even game was tied... we even had 50% possession each.

On to game two.

A close, tense first half was being contested, until a Zombie was hacked down from behind when... ummm... running away from goal. The referee decided he couldn't be doing with such matters, and sent off Pizza, one of the defenders for Dimrill's School Dinners. Oh no! To combat any holes at the back, Dimrill decided to create a hole in midfield, and one of his lads ended up out of position at the back.

The inevitable happened shortly after, and Curiosity got a goal to go ahead in the tie.

Dimrill (1) 0 - 1 (2) Curiosity

Half time was reached with Curiosity edging it, and making the extra man tell.

The second half started cagily, and after a shot had been parried for a corner, Curiosity whipped in a ball that was headed nowhere at all until DImrill decided to hack someone down in the area. PENALTY!

Chug stepped up and dispatched the goal (his second of the game) to send the Zombies one step closer to the SWOS Final.

Dimrill (1) 0 - 2 (3) Curiosity

It looked over for Dimrill. Both sides were having attacks (and Curiosity was cynically stopping them by hacking down any strikers that got near him, which earned two yellow cards), but it got into the 80th minute and there looked to be no way back for Dimrill... until he ran forward, evaded a string of attempted lunges and buried the ball into the net with something like 8 minutes left on the clock. Could he emulate Myoptika's comeback?

Dimrill (2) 1 - 2 (3) Curiosity

The Zombies kicked off, considering some dastardly timewasting tactics, and soon hoofed the ball from defence up to the strikers... where Chug slipped his marker darted into the box and slammed home his third goal of the night!

Dimrill (2) 1 - 3 (4) Curiosity

Chug hat trick had sealed the deal, as there were scant seconds left, and though the Zombie keeper made another top class save, it would have been too late.

Final Score: Dimrill 2 Curiosity 4

With a red card and a penalty to his favour, Curiosity was happy that he had bribed the referee beforehand.

A couple of good spirited and often very funny games (we kept on leaving the ball on the floor behind us). Cheers Dimrill!

So, Myoptika... we meet again!

What time can you realistically play at the earliest? My plan is to have you rush through the door and have to play immediately with no tea or anything. I'll have had 4 hours practice, as I'm leaving at lunchtime especially.

Some or all of the above paragraph may or may not be true.

I don't need practice. I've not played any SWOS games all season apart from these cup games. I have tenacious natural ability.

So there.

I'll be home around 6. My availability for the match tonight depends almost entirely on whether or not Maria 'needs' me to do 562347853 things to prepare for the holiday or not.

The Final: myoptika (Forumites) vs Curiosity (Zombie United)

A thrilling finale to BeeX's football showpiece event was a fitting end to a tournament played in great spirit by all participants.

The first half was an end-to-end affair with plenty of chances for both teams. The woodwork was hit twice by both players and myoptika was lucky to avoid conceding a penalty, bringing down one of Curiosity's jinking maestros on the very edge of the box.

It looked like both players would have to be satisfied with going in level at the break, when Curiosity bent one in out of nowhere to make it 1-0 on 43 minutes.

Half-time score: myoptika 0-1 Curiosity

The second half was a lot less even. myoptika's Forumites were getting back into the game, squeezing Curiosity's charges under immense pressure. However, it wasn't until the 68th minute when a lofted corner found the boot of myoptika's striker, prodding into the net from 6 yards - 1-1

The pressure was unrelenting, and only a mere matter of minutes later was it 2-1 to the Forumites. Curiosity finally cracked when with 12 minutes to go and not having touched the ball all half, he tried dribbling the ball out of his penalty area with his goalkeeper. This moment of madness produced disastrous results when his keeper was dispossessed, the ball played across square before myoptika shooting into a goalmouth only protected by a lone defender. He was helpless to stop the ball hitting the back of the onion bag to make it 3-1 to myoptika.

Curiosity's dreams of Cup glory laid in tatters, but he managed to dust himself off for one more attack, jinking around the Forumite defence, only to be scythed down cynically by the last man. A red card and well-placed free kick made it 3-2, but Curiosity had left it too late - myoptika was crowned the champion of all BeeX!

Final score: myoptika 3-2 Curiosity

BeeX SWOS Cup Awards

So, exactly four months and 29 games after the first match kicked off, it's finally over. A big thank you to everyone who took part - I really enjoyed putting this together and hope you all had as much fun as I did. I've put together a few awards below fo

Champion: myoptika
Well what can I say? I almost definitely fixed it, but there's no way of you finding out, muwhahaha!

Runner-up: Curiosity
This chap had a great tournament - he was only hampered by the fact he supports Villa, hence not knowing much about real football.

Golden Boot Award (AKA Goalscoring Superstar Hero): Ramsea
The Islander banged in an incredible 11 goals in his four matches, including six in one match alone.

Most-Improved Player Award: Mark X
Came back from a 6-2 mauling from Ramsea early in the tournament to register two excellent results against semi-finalist Romanista. Watch out for him next time!

Down to the Cuticles Award: Curiosity, Scarysheep3000 & Sheepeh
A real group of death with all three players able to qualify for the semi-finals with one game remaining.

Well, that's it. Again, I hope you've all had fun and if there's sufficient interest I'd love to do this all again - perhaps in the New Year?

I was clearly robbed.

Not only did Myoptika foul all my players to within an inch of their lives, he spent about half an hour fine tuning his tactics, formation changes and substitutions. To my mind, that's cheating!

:DD
