The other day, I noticed that my cat Nutmeg was not her usual self, and was spending a lot of time outside and not eating properly. Also noticed this morning that she'd lost a hell of a lot of weight (not necessarily a bad thing, she was always a porker) and was breathing funny.

Jem took her to the vets, and they agreed her breathing was very laboured (which is a bad thing for cats, but especially this breed) and that she had wheezing on her chest. They couldn't do a blood test or take an x-ray because she got so worked up when they tried that she stopped breathing and went blue, so they've had to call me to ask permission to sedate her so that they can try and find out what's wrong.

Thing is, in cats with laboured breathing, sedation can mean they don't wake up :(

Have asked them to do it anyway, and now I'm hoping that everything works out.

Really hope it all works out ok :)

Thanks, guys. Weirdly, I'm not feeling too bothered by it yet when she went missing for a day a few years ago I was beside myself. Guess it's the "unknown."

Sorry to hear that Gazchap... Well, I would be if I could actually hear anything.

I have a nay. My ears have been blocked for about a week now and today is probably the worst they've been. All I can hear in my right ear is tinitus, and nothing else. It's really, really annoying.

I went to the doctors last Wednesday but he couldn't see anything and gave me a decongestant to see if that would help. It hasn't. I'm going to go back tomorrow to see if there's anything else he can do or perhaps refer me to a specialist because I can't cope with this.

There's no buildup of wax or anything is there? I guess they'd have spotted that if there was, but I had horrible hearing problems a couple of months ago and my ears were almost completely blocked up with wax buildup (noice)

A couple of syringing sessions and they were as right as rain.

That was my first thought and I was hoping this would be the case but my doctor had a look and he couldn't see anything. I did think it would be an easy fix but it appears not.

It's making me dizzy and everything! I've had to put my headphones in at work as the background noise is just at the right frequency to really hurt me.

My mom called me this morning to tell me that she had to call an ambulance for my dad at 4 in the morning. He hurt his back a few days ago and now, it's all gone down into his legs and he can't walk.

He also has prostate cancer so I'm hoping it is just a bad back or trapped nerve and nothing to do with the cancer.

Proper rubbish... She said he's alright apart from his legs but what a worry.

Thanks all.. I went to see him a couple of times over the weekend and he's as well as can be I guess. He's got to lie horizontal until his MRI scan which will hopefully be today, so he's kind of just stuck staring at the ceiling.

He isn't paralyzed, but his legs won't hold his weight at all. We still don't know what the problem is but hopefully the scan will shed some light on it so yeah... Proper rubbish.

So, that was a shit bank holiday weekend. My dad had his MRI scan on Monday morning and they looked at the results straight away. It seems that the prostate cancer has spread into his spine and because it's growing on his spinal column, it's causing him to lose feeling in his legs.

There's a specialist unit in Oswestry (about an hour away) that can operate to put some plates on his spine to bring it all back in line and stop any further damage. He was transferred there straight away and credit to the NHS, there was a bed waiting for him and the operation is booked for today.

After the operation we don't really know what will happen. I think there's some radiotherapy to shrink the cancer but they couldn't tell us if he'll be able to walk again. They won't know until the operation is over and he recovers from that.

I'm working from home today as I didn't really fancy putting a brave face on at work.

So sorry TheVision. All thoughts and best wishes are with you and your family. I hope the operation goes well and that the doctors are able to quickly inform on the best course of treatment. It sounds as if they have been wonderfully swift in organising the treatment. I hope the nurses and doctors continue to take best care of your dad and you and your family xxx
