My wife is away this weekend at a spa, first time in over 3 years

So home with my son tonight, dreading bedtime as he will take the piss, also I've never but him to bed myself.

I regularly do 99% of it but he always asks for his mum at the end.

Don't mind if bedtime is late tonight but we have one of those baby monitors that you can view on a phone from anywhere with internet. So worried my wife will be looking in and if she sees antics will wind her self up. She is pregnant and is full of cold and pretty knackered so needs to use this rare opportunity to chill out

Turning it off is not at option as she will smell a rat :)

Still fingers crossed!

Get an IPAD and film 30 seconds and put it on a loop, Mission impossible style.

I would be honest and tell her that you're turning the monitor off for the night so that she can't check in. She deserves a night to relax and forget about home and besides, you're there. What's the worst that can happen?

On the (few) occasions that my wife has implied that I couldn't do anything for the boy without her supervision, it has resulted in a quick and sharp response and the supervision has stopped. I think that if we had an internet baby monitor and I found she was checking up on me, it would be a quick route to divorce.

We never had anything more than an audio baby monitor. Even that stopped pretty quickly.

We've got this stupid fucking audio thing that also sets an alarm off if you lift Kim from the cot. Every single time i set it off, which wakes Mel up and never at a respectable hour. I hate it i hate i hate it. We have had it since mel was born.

These days we don't use it that much most nights we forget to turn the Ipad on, but as she is away suspect she will be having a look.

I had an insane thought on the drive to work this morning that I would buy a big doll and stick that in the bed if he acted up so it look like all is well :DD In my defence I'm full of cold and my son has it too so he keeps waking up through the night so I'm pretty tired as well

I remember we looked at buying one of those, feedback from other parents was pretty much what you are saying so didn't bother!

We got this in the end

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Withings-70001 ... by+monitor

You can still get it on Amazon but its no longer made by the manufacturer, its been replaced by a more generic home camera

Its been really good to be fair, used a lot when we have been away on holiday, just need to hook it up to the wireless and you are good to go.

Still kept the box as they make good money on EBay 2nd hand

Our baby monitor had one of those plates that sets an alarm off if the baby stops breathing. In theory it's a great idea, in practice it was terrible as it was going off 3-4 times a night and scaring us both to death.

We disabled it pretty quick.

We still have the baby monitor on even though ours are 2 and 4. It has a night light built in which is useful so that's the reason we keep it.

Anyway, yeah... Just turn it off. Your wife will thank you for it I'm sure.

We have the AngelCare breathing sensons monitor, and seem to have the opposite experience to everyone else. It's gone off a couple of times as a false alarm when he moved right the way up to one end of the cot, but apart from that it's been invaluable at alerting us to him stopping breathing, because he sleeps with his face pressed into the mattress.

Well going well so far

Got him up there no issue but he has been taking the piss for the last hour

As soon as I leave he turns the light on and gets out of bed, been up 10 times

So now I'm leaving him to it, if he wants to piss around all night fine, he will drop off at some point!

EDIT: Nailed it! I put my foot down and refused to go back up until he got back into bed and turned the light off, that worked! Then I went back to check on him every 5 mins and he was more and more sleepy each time and now he is out.

Well please with myself thought this was going to be 10pm or worse :DD

I just sit with mine. 10 minutes of dicking about on my phone in the dark beats going up and down the stairs all night. (Less of an issue these days but they're obviously older.)

Well, no, a real one is one that matches the existing four.

Do any modern cars actually come with one of them any more?

The M5 did, as did the E65 7-Series'ss's's's that I've had. Can't think of any other cars in my list that did.

When I bought both of my cars they were trying to fob me off with some repair kit, not good if you shred your tyre

So I insisted on a proper one in each car which they gave me as part of the deal .

In my 26 years of motoring I honestly don't think I've had even one single puncture that required immediate roadside attention, let alone shredded a tyre. So I tend to regard spare tyres or the lack thereof as something that's not that big of a deal. I suppose now I've said that I'll have a massive blowout and have to call the AA or something.

Current advice is to call the AA anyway, and not change the tyre on your own.

Why? Don't know.

Probably because other drivers are ignoramuses and will generally think nothing of plowing into your car because they're too busy checking their phone.

First time I ever went on a motorway, my front left tyre exploded. That was exciting, I can tell you.

Fortunately, due to the way the car didn't feel too cheery (many vibrations) I was in the Inside lane going at a somewhat reduced speed.

The Boy has been invited to a Christmas Party at Downing street next week. Sadly however, I can't get away from the office so the COO is taking him instead.

Got the tree up yesterday, this morning my son has broken 3 baubles, 2 of them just by hurling them at the wall.

Also opened all the presents under the tree (which were for adults) and tipped the tree over

All this by 6.30am as he was up at 5.15am

Its like I have a pet fox living in the house >:|
