Excellent episode - the last few have been a bit 'meh' in places but this one was really back on form.

Just started season 5 last night. Catching up with you all. Averaging two a day! It is amazing

Nah, the cracks are starting to show as they wrap it up:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Walt cannot under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES contact his wife, but Todd and the nazi co and wander in at any time and threaten her and the baby?

Also, the jig is up with Walt, but the DEA don't pick up any of the taped video evidence, and leave it in Hank's house? Thus allowing Todd and the invisible nazis to once again wander in to steal the ONLY COPY? What the fudge?

And how do the nazis even know about Andrea? Walt didn't mention it, so what is that, telepathy? Loads of shit that's just way too convenient to be credibly believable.

Are those details even important? The Nazi's could very easily find that information regarding Andrea. They could just check Jesse's Facebook account, or even Skinny Pete's. They don't have to show everything

Yes, yes they are. Giant plot holes and doing really improbable things makes the show rather unbelievable. Some of the worst shows contain elements where things happen without reason or explanation.

I agree with you on the first example. It really seemed more like a thing out of Dexter than of a great show like Breaking Bad. I think the other two example are perfectly believable. In the second, weren't Hank and Gomez working under the radar? It could also be incompetence from the part of the DEA

Scenario:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Re-energised by that TV interview, Walt vows a last-stand style assault on the Nazis to recover the loot. He now intends to leave it all to grey matters' drugs charity as a final bit of oneupmanship. Maybe rescues Jessie along the way for old times sake.
The ricin is in case he is captured.
Hands self in. The end.

Too optimistic I'm sure!

Dear Lost,

That was quite an ending.

Excellent.

But what do I watch now ........ ? i know, I'll re-watch these final eight episodes on Netflix. :D

BTW, be grateful that you weren't watching this episode live - apparently AMC were interrupting it with adverts about once every seven minutes or so. Sounds like it completely ruined the flow.

I might start this again, from scratch. What a show.

Or I'll redo Sopranos.

I'd opt for Breaking Bad - it stays consistently excellent pretty much all the way through, plus having just watched the last episode it'll be fun to go back to the very first episode. :)

Same here - and I feel incredibly sad that it's over (yet I think it ended where it should have, I wouldn't have liked to have seen it drawn out any further).

Good last epiosde, no stupid endings for a change.

I did read that the last one was supposed to be 75 mins long but it was just normal length I think?

Most are about 44mins in total. The last 2 were 55. So with adverts it's probably 75 min.

There are a lot of flashbacks though, reminding you what those early eps are like ;)

Sopranos has enough distance by this point to seem new again.

Til the next thing comes along, cf. Sopranos, Wire.

I only had one problem with that final episode - the music that played over the final scene. Now I understand why it was used in terms of the lyrics but musically I don't think that it fit. I'd have much rather had something more in keeping (ie original score for that scene) or, far better still, no music at all. When I re-watch it I'll simply mute the volume. :)

after the episode ended I felt slightly disappointed for not having one of those wtf moments that breaking bad excels at. But the more I think about the more convinced I am that it was a fitting finale. Walter scene with skylar and holly almost made me cry.
I'm really sad that we won't see another show of this magnificence so soon.

I've started watching the new season of boardwalk empire but it's been kinda boring. Everything is boring compared to breaking bad.

That exact idea is what stopped me watching it for years, but characterising it simply as 'a political drama' does it a massive disservice. You don't need to know or care about politics going in (I certainly didn't) and to a great degree it's just the wrapping for the best ensemble entertainment you'll ever see. The quality of the writing/acting transcends that wrapping and will either massively succeed in making you give a shit about the politics (if only in as much as they effect the characters) or at least stop you caring that you're watching something with political themes simply in order to follow the stories. The whole thing's massively character driven basically and the same people would be just as watchable if the setting was a garden centre is Scunthorpe.

ETA: It's also worth noting that it's not as po-faced as something like House of Cards and is probably one of the funniest shows I've ever watched that wasn't a straight sitcom.

An almost predictable ending really. Everything wrapped up pretty much as you thought it would be, no surprises.

Also, House of Cards, totally awesome, can recommend.

Spanish Language remake set in Columbia has already been made. While initially it looked like a spoof this is supposedly really happening.

So the answer to the question "What do I watch now Breaking Bad has finished?" is "Watch it again but now with subtitles"

You should. I started watching it from the beginning a few weeks ago, I'm now just 2 episodes into series 4, and I've not seen a bad episode yet and have been utterly gripped for the entire run so far.

Off the top of my head this thread is very well spoilered so you should be safe to read in that regard, but yeah probably not much point either.

I've tried to get into various other series since Breaking Bad finished and in all honesty I've been forced to conclude it really is one of a kind in its brilliance.
