She was going to kill them, wasn't she? It seemed pretty implied given how she kept putting her hand on Needle and looking at their swords slung in a corner of their camp.

She was considering it, was my interpretation, but that just underscores my point. She has very personal beef with the Lannisters. But even though these are Lannister men, they seem to have done nothing to harm her or her family, and in fact have shown her only kindness. The show consciously decided to humanise them, and to make sure we know Anya knows they are real people with families and lives. So the question for what's to become of Arya is: do we cold open next week to a scene of her murdering those men as they sleep, and if so, was that the right thing for her to do? Classic 'Thrones.

I think it's building to Arya and the Hound meeting up again. By which point, the Hound will be mostly a moral person, and Arya maybe mostly an amoral person. Or to put it another way, I think we are invited to understand more about each of these characters by contrasting with the other.

Post subject:  Re: Game Of Thrones (TV)

The hound is on her list of course.

I don't see any evidence of her planning to kill them. Anyone in westeros riding into an army camp would be checking where their hosts had their weapons and making sure the hilt of their sword was to hand.

I wonder which bits are going to be the tedious, rubbish bits this time around. It's mandatory that there is at least one setting where your heart sinks a bit when the scene changes to it.

Everything with Sansa in it.

I don't keep up with mainstream pop music, so I didn't notice the ginger was a famous person, thus I liked the scene since he's got obviously a good voice and the song was pleasant.

Besides that, solid episode.

And the scene between Euron and Cersei was the best. And I agree with him when it comes to taste in women.

Yes, it was splendid. It was a 50/50 mix of her mother and Cersei, which fits the character perfectly. I also enjoyed her scene with Jon. I think perhaps in hindsight she can act fine but has been hobbled by dull writing for most of the show up until recently.

I think that it's more to do with her character in the show. She was an ingenue that wanted to marry Joffrey as that was the role she may have been raised for. She was very young and made many poor decisions and ended up with powerful men who were not pleasant. Much as I agree that her character was irritating, I'm not sure how else she could have played it. If you're that young and that massively suppressed then you are going to become inert. She was in abusive relationships. I don't think it was poorly written either. The fact that there are so many very strong female characters in the show tends to throw her character into stark contrast. Pun intended.
I suspect she's going to come into her own this series.
However, I'm not going to make any remarks on her voice, which I find quite nasal, but then she's having to do a Northern accent because of Sean Bean.

I watched this!

My thoughts were that I do t know who the singer everyone is moaning about is. He was dull but not awful.

The Lady Whatsherface (young girl who gave her army of 13 people or whatever it was) to Jon Snow can barely speak in sentences, let alone act.

The bit with Sam(?) at the library/monastery type place and the scene with his horrible day to day tasks was directed awfully. It was like a bad advert for wooden buckets. It really didn't fit with the way the rest of the show has been directed and just when you thought the tediousness couldn't possibly go on any longer they looped it round for another 6 minutes or so.

The fact that it seemed like somethjnvbout of something else was my exact problem with it, as it interrupts any immersion.

The Stoneskin removal scene was tremendous; a pretty small and cheap scene which worked fantastically because of two great performances and some outstanding prosthetic SFX work. I was really wincing because Iain Glen sold it so well.

Caught up with this last night.

The Arya scenes are becoming my favourites now - each a little vignette on how she's nothing like what she used to be. The bit with the direwolf where basically they have both gone a bit wild and she just flat out says "it's not you" was well done on a few levels, also she is having to act with either CGI or Ed Sheeran which makes the performance even better. The fact that she chose to go to Winterfell rather than to poke Cersei's eyes out hopefully means she's on the way back to finding Arya beneath the nameless pie making machine so she may end up with all the skills combined with the Stark moral compass but tempered with a healthy dose of worldly-wise cynicism.

One thing I continue to love about GoT is when you're watching that battle between Euron, Yara and Theon you have no idea at all which way it's going to go. Any of them could die horribly at any point, or be maimed, or skinned so you're far more invested in what's happening than when, say, Jason Bourne is attacked with a machete and all he has is a copy of the Beano and a pencil sharpener. (Having said that when Euron declared he would bring a "gift" back for Cersei the fact that he didn't say what it was did make me think he would end up returning so we could all find out what that was - I still wasn't sure though)

Contrast between the cockless pair Theon and Greyworm was stark - "I am not afraid of anything, except maybe losing you" vs "Captain Jack Slice-me-do has an axe at my sister's neck? Fuck this I'm off." but even then they showed enough of people getting the shit maimed out of them that you can have some sympathy for his plight or at least undertstand his motivations for not wanting any more bits of him lopped off as trophies.

That was fackin' great.

Euron is a proper scenery-chewing mad bastard and I love him.

Cersei though! She has become terrifying! Constantly outsmarting Tyrion and that scene in the dungeon. Really scary and horrible. I think Ms Headey has her eye on an Emmy!

Prediction: This season ends with her dying, and the Nights King getting past the wall.

Though I have no idea who would kill her now, besides Jaime.

Watched the first 2 so far and its really good shame about the shorter season this time though.

It confirmed that Lyanna is Jon's mum but doesn't overtly confirm his dad, but we know that Lyanna had sexy times with Rhaegar. I think GRRM has more or less said that the internet figured it out years ago (subcheck).
