Deal.

What if neither of those things happen? A draw?

Well, I was dialling it back to the simplest terms.

End of the series as an end point?

I wouldn't put it past them to re-write the story if he does die in the books; he's surely the most popular character!

It was good, don't get me wrong, but strangely the attack from beyond the wall is the least interesting thing going on at the moment, I wanted to know more about everything else!

Someone reminded me of this on another forum: am I going totally mad or has Littlefinger suddenly acquired a pronounced Irish accent this season that he didn't have previously? It's all I can hear now whenever he's in a scene but it seems like such an odd idea that the actor would suddenly start using a different accent that I'd assumed I was making it up. I realise Aidan Gillen is Irish but he's never played the character with a noticeable Irish accent before has he?

His accent (in this, not in anything else) is notorious for going all over the bloody place!

I'd never noticed it until the latter half of this season. I'm glad I'm not making it up but he really needs to pack it in because it's as distracting as all fuck.

I've not read the books but apparently the character has a different accent when he's in Kings Landing and that this is explained in the book. I can only speculate that they had a scene where it was explained but left it out.

His father was Bravosi. And I think varys mentioned it as well and petr explained it was mostly put on to suit.

That it was. Compared to the past couple it couldn't really compete, but it was still damned good.

I loved last night's episode. My friend pointed out one massive sweeping camera angle midway through the episode which, from a filming perspective, was absolute genius. So much action going on in every part of the shot.

It had a bit of a Lord of the Rings feel to it.

I thought it was overly long. I'm not really invested enough in anyone that was rpesent with the exception of Jon Snow, Sam and Ygritte,* and even then it isn't a great deal. It wasn't as good as the LotR battles, which it'll be compared to (and has already here), nor was it very clear.

The problem is that many of the shots were too busy and it wasn't clear who was who, so the viewer had to wait until everything had finished before getting any kind of resolutino to it. "Ah ha!" you're saying, "that's to show the confusion of the situation" but not for a long hour. It might seem clever to a 19 year old media studies student but not to the audience. Thankfully there's wasn't any moment of "Press A to slide down the bannister on a shield" moment, but I can't help but feel it could have been done in a much tighter fashion. I dunno, by havinga messenger run half way thorugh and report back to someone and show it all in flashback or whatever. Or get a abrd to tell the tale. Some bits were superb, but the remainig time wasn't well used.

*Jon and Sam's friendship is superbly written, and really, really well done. However, at times, I think it gets really sloppy when they revert to "Sam is a fat coward" and "Jon Snow looks a bit melancoly".

So bambas rule would mean spoiler tags are safe if you're up to date with tv but not of you've not read the books. I also agree about it being annoying typing in spoiler tags via mobile. I also agree about bums being nice.

Sorry for being slow:

Are we ONLY spoilering the book bits?
We can talk about the last episode the day after it was broadcast?

Jolly good. I've forgotten most of the detail in the books anyway.

GOOD THINGS about last night episode:

Giants, mammoths and the Sycthe. The watch commander apologising for not sealing the tunnel and then showing Snow that ti's tough being in charge at times. Killing of the giant, and the last stand at the gate, that was good.

BAD things:

Ygritte dying in Snow's arms for an eternity. It went on a bit.

That last episode was very well done and, as someone said, nice and LOTR-y as battle scenes go. The problem is that we only get ten episodes a season and there are a fuckton of interesting characters and plots going on to so to spend a whole episode on this very detailed view of a single battle scene just seemed a bit needless. What are we now not going to see, or get rushed through, so the show could confirm for us that John Snow's mates are all courageous good guys but that, for instance, Janos Slynt is a prick?

I thought it was fantastic.

Like a LOTR fight but with actual peril.

And as for rushing other stuff, I don't see why. They could have ended the season there quite happily.

At some level they've got a list of 'stuff' to get through and a very strictly set amount of time to spend on that. The more time you spend on one thing the less you can spend on other stuff; that's just a fact.

Obviously it's impossible to know what sacrifices they've had to make in translating the events of the books (though it's obvious when they drop a character and amalgamate others of course) but in something that's got so many characters and events I'd seriously struggle to believe they didn't have to sacrifice anything so we could have what was an extended fight scene with relatively little plot or character development.

Given that they're running out of books -- let them take their time!

I don't know anything about TV show production, so I ask: Why are there only 10 episodes a season? Why not 15? 20? 24?

You just want that ginger minge.

I love the idea that GoT could put 'minge' into the American lexicon.

Even I was surprised at how easily she turned on him. Being spurned is one thing, even if the dozy bitch was unable to see he was doing it to protect her, and it's another to knowingly lie and condemn him to death in the act. Surely she was a plant from Day 1? Tywin knew of Tyrion's propensity for whores...

That certainly makes sense.

Loved the fight with the hound, shame he ended up dead (or is he?), I was sort of hoping they would team up and become some sort of male/female giant dream team!

Was it implied Shae was shagging Tywin, or was the broach of the hand of the king a sentimental reminder for her of Tyrion? I think the latter as Tywin has painted himself/been painted as above that sort of thing and she had served her purpose at the trial. He would not have kept that sort of thing around as the risk would be too high.

The Hound dying was sad as he and Arya were able to lend detail to the lawlessness of the Kingdoms, and the Dragons bit was OK.

Shae was shagging Tywin, she was in his bed.

Has the hound actually died? We didn't actually see that! :)

That's quite disappointing I think, as Tywin has showed nothing but disdain for the sort of bedhopping antics everyone else has endured. Especially for a man of his cautious and calculating character, it would have been a huge risk for him to take to get a prostitute to go to Tyrion, for Tyrion to really like her and take care of her for so long, fall in love with her for her to betray him. It'd be far easier for him to arrange a huting accident, or an incident on Tyrion's sojurn to the wall. It seemed rather cheap to go "surprise! they were at it all along" and then to off them both.

He looked in pretty bad nick, lad, there's not many that'd walk away from that.

What was the iron coin thing that Arya have to the boat captain at the end?

Something to do with her fencing teacher?
