Ep 1 was reasonable. Not massively interesting, but OK for a scene setter. About to watch Ep 2, as the first 4 have all been released as evaluation copies on the internet.

I have noticed that there are 1080p versions of episode 1 and 2 knocking about. Would someone care to eat their hat?

Well this one sez 1080p/HDTV/x264.

So not only is it 1080P HDTV it's x 264 so, um, 285120P. It's a 4 gigglybit download, so, y'know, techy stuff.

Well I don't understand this cause I can count over 1000 across my tv in one row and my telly must have, like, 800 plus going down the screen so, by my maths, there's over 18,000 pixels. Does that sound about right!??!

I really enjoyed the second episode. It is shaping up wonderfully.

Sansa is still terrible, though

He's saying that a 1080p rip might be upscaled instead of being an actual 1080p version. Or someone's just written 1080p in the filename.

Obviously that's always possible but as GoT is available in 1080p why's he so convinced that Sat's file isn't legit? And why should anyone need to eat their headwear? I'm perennially confused.

I still don't know what's everybody's problem with Sansa, apart from being unreasonably tall. I think she plays the part just fine.

The flat voice, the stiffness. She is meant to be terrified, true, but she just comes over as sedated. Maybe she is getting poor direction, but it really grates on me. Otherwise, it is all good, by and large.

I'm not convinced. But I don't want him to be either. Sowing doubt is easier than proof

Do you apply this rigorous scepticism to every aspect of your life? "Mr shopkeeper, I demand that you prove this is actually milk! Even though it's a perfectly reasonable premise that this milk carton contains actual milk I'm going to believe that you've just painted some water white!"

I was a bit miffed that the uber-soldiers got killed by a few dagger wielding mask-loons. Guess they weren't as uber as they made out?

i guess spears are a poor choice of offensive weapon in enclosed spaces. Best defence they had was to stand close to each other facing outwards and then shuffle away.

That scene annoyed me. Even outnumbered, the super elite soldiers should have minced them up. When I realised it was a trap, I assumed it would be something more elaborate; like a gate would shut behind them, and then the masked buggers would be up high with ranged weapons or boiling oil. There was even a long shot of the corridor showing high windows. But no, they just looked at each other for a bit, and then because the plot demanded the Unsullied lose they suddenly forgot shield discipline or how to fight as a unit of spear carriers. Idiots.

Still, it's the first interesting thing to happen in Daenerys's plotline all season, so at least there's that.

Surely you haven't only just noticed this?

My wife noticed within seconds that one of the Dorne girls -- the one with the vicious spear throw, Obara Sand -- was in The Amazing Johnsons. Also, she was nominated for an Oscar at the age of 12(!).

Edit - I just realised the name "Sand" means she's a bastard (like Jon Snow.) I'm still figuring out the family lines of the Done lot.

That or she's a fire marshal at a London train station.

only because we just started watching series 3 of the Wire and I was "Little finger! " as MrsA slow clapped me. It took me an age to realise it was Bolton in misfits, too.

EXACTLY. Within seconds I thought "LINE UP AND SPEAR THEM ALL TO DEATH". Infact I watched a bit of Kings of Kings (1961) over Easter, and the Roman soldiers did just that:

Image

(the ones on the walls just stood there and stopped people escaping. The mine line of soldiers just marched from left to right, poking everyone to death as they mercilessly steamrolled over them)

I don't know if you're a book reader (BOOK READERS FUCK OFF), but I don't think it's a spoiler to say that all of the "sand snakes" are the numerous (all female?) children of that guy who got his eyes squeezed out and that angry Spanish-styled woman. They're technically all illegitimate bastards as they're not married, hence all of them being called blah-blah Sand. The Dornish people don't care for such legalities as paramaroes are normal there, or something, so it's ok to have a million illegitimate offspring. All of that is in the show, but it's hurried, parts of it were last season and there's a million characters so I don't think it's easy to pick up on.

ps: I mainly remember Littlefinger from Queer as Folk. He was the main gay guy who taught the young guy how to bum properly. Formative stuff that was.

All that stuff re: the Sand sisters is correct, yes. And it's not a book spoiler (I've never read the books), it was mentioned (albeit very briefly) last season.

I too thought the Unsullied getting stabbed by a bunch of twats was somewhat unbelievable. Especially as an old man on his own with a sword then wades in and kills almost all the baddies.
