At some level they've got a list of 'stuff' to get through and a very strictly set amount of time to spend on that. The more time you spend on one thing the less you can spend on other stuff; that's just a fact.

Obviously it's impossible to know what sacrifices they've had to make in translating the events of the books (though it's obvious when they drop a character and amalgamate others of course) but in something that's got so many characters and events I'd seriously struggle to believe they didn't have to sacrifice anything so we could have what was an extended fight scene with relatively little plot or character development.

Given that they're running out of books -- let them take their time!

I don't know anything about TV show production, so I ask: Why are there only 10 episodes a season? Why not 15? 20? 24?

I was almost getting tear eyed during the last moments of Ygritte, but then she uttered what everyone was asking for and i immediately cracked up.

I will miss her, she's lovely.

You just want that ginger minge.

I love the idea that GoT could put 'minge' into the American lexicon.

Even I was surprised at how easily she turned on him. Being spurned is one thing, even if the dozy bitch was unable to see he was doing it to protect her, and it's another to knowingly lie and condemn him to death in the act. Surely she was a plant from Day 1? Tywin knew of Tyrion's propensity for whores...

That certainly makes sense.

Loved the fight with the hound, shame he ended up dead (or is he?), I was sort of hoping they would team up and become some sort of male/female giant dream team!

Was it implied Shae was shagging Tywin, or was the broach of the hand of the king a sentimental reminder for her of Tyrion? I think the latter as Tywin has painted himself/been painted as above that sort of thing and she had served her purpose at the trial. He would not have kept that sort of thing around as the risk would be too high.

The Hound dying was sad as he and Arya were able to lend detail to the lawlessness of the Kingdoms, and the Dragons bit was OK.

That's quite disappointing I think, as Tywin has showed nothing but disdain for the sort of bedhopping antics everyone else has endured. Especially for a man of his cautious and calculating character, it would have been a huge risk for him to take to get a prostitute to go to Tyrion, for Tyrion to really like her and take care of her for so long, fall in love with her for her to betray him. It'd be far easier for him to arrange a huting accident, or an incident on Tyrion's sojurn to the wall. It seemed rather cheap to go "surprise! they were at it all along" and then to off them both.

What was the iron coin thing that Arya have to the boat captain at the end?

Something to do with her fencing teacher?

Yeah, I think he said something like "You'll know when you'll need it" when he gave it her.

She's turned proper evil, hasn't she? It's awesome to watch her transformation into someone so cold.

No, the man with the changing face who helped her escape from harrenhall gave it to her and said 'if you meet someone from Bravos give them this and say the phrase'.

Shae was definitely shagging Tywin at that point; when Tywin at one point tried to convince Tyrion move from the privvy into his chamber for a discussion Tyrion said he couldn't as 'she' was there i.e. it was Tywin's bedroom, and thus his bed, Shae had been in when he'd killed her.

To me though there's still a question over whether Shae had been an agent of Tywin the entire time. It's possible to read it as she genuinely loved Tyrion and felt so betrayed at him sending her away (even though it was the only sensible course of action obviously) that she turned on him out of bitterness and anger. Then, with Tyrion marked for death and Sansa having done a bunk, she was left with no position in the court at all so, for self-preservation, seduced Tywin. If it's ever made clear either way in the book I'd be curious to know (in a spoiler tag of course).

Sounds reasonable.

Thinking about Tywin some more: The narrative between him and Tyrion is tricky. He doesn't want Tyrino dead, he would have done it by now,he wants to hurt and torture him (mainly because of his children's terrible behaviour). He did with his treatment of Tyrion's first wife and has done it again with Shae. I don't, however, think he would have been seduced by her so she could live, Tywin is too cold blooded and calculating for that and would see right through it. It left me a bit disappointed, as it was out of character. I don;'t think he would have turned to her out of grief, either, after Cersei's revalation to him that it was all true.

Great episode.

Still, i never cared for Brann's storyline and yesterday that was the worst part. That fireball slinging kid had some sort of Monty Python's Tim silliness.

Stannis annoys the shit out of me. He's dumb and incapable of making any decision without help or advice.

And i love that this show makes us care for the bad guys. I felt really sorry for the Hound. He was a great character. Also Tywin: He's a prick, but quite a charismatic one.

Yes, entirely agree. I find the character annoying and irrelevant. That brother/sister were also terrible actors and seemingly pointless.

Their are lots of moral questions surrounding controlling Hordor, since by nature he's clearly not a neck-breaking thug, and the fact he's of sufficiently simple mind to be controlled is quite sketchy, I think.

Things I am most interested in for the next series:

1 - Who will be the new Hand of the King? Cersei? Jaime? Someone new?
2 - What will become of Tyrion and Varys? I assume the latter has left as he knows he'll be implicated in Tywin's death.
3 - What will Ser Friendzone (Ser Jorah) do? I bet he's gonna try to do some crazy grand gesture to 'win her back'.
4 - What is Stannis's play here? Sweep down from the North and gather support as he goes? Hmmmm...
5 - What in the blue hell is going on with Bran? I wonder if he can Worg into dragon brains? That's be cool.
6 - What is Petyr Baelish gonna do next? He's too ambitious to sit in The Eyrie.
7 - Is Arya gonna go off and become a legendary assassin? I hope so!
8 - What will happen to the Mountain? The new doctor chap seemed to hint that he'd become even more of a monster.

And probably some other stuff I can't think of right now.

Obv no spoilers from the book crew, plz.

Insofar as the last paragraph is concerned, it's interesting to remember that when Tywin learns that Shae is the whore shagging Tyrion that he says (somewhere in episode 3) "Have her brought to the Tower of the Hand before the wedding".

Was the pardon letter that was received the one that Tywin was writing a few episoes ago?

It was written a long time ago, but sent recently
