It was very much a “here’s a quick recap on where literally everyone in the world has got to” episode and was, as a consequence, rather shallow.

I assumed it was the beginning of

Indeed. I assume that

Arya will basically turn into Daredevil over the course of this series

It was rather necessary though. When a show is juggling as many potlines as this, you need to ease people back into the world with the first episode. And I disagree it was shallow in any event -- we got some important events or character beats in many of the ~5min vignettes.

Thoughts on Dorne:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I could have sworn that the Prince had some master plan in action and was in on the assassination of Myrcella. Was there not a nod to the Sand Snake just before the poison? I was pretty shocked when they killed him.

I disagree - a couple of things happened, but there was very little in terms of character or plot progression, even with those things. I think this is symptomatic of trying to do to much at once - even the books narrowed their focus a bit, and the last couple of books spent maybe a third on each major plot theme/character group

I don't think that was ever in doubt, and in any event was resolved within a few minutes of the start.

I thought it was a great first episode for the years break. I this was a binge on Netflix and I had seen the last 5 seasons over the space of a month, I would have thought a little different.

It's so nice to not know what is going to happen!

I think there was an huge change in tone between 4th and 5th season, but so far i haven't found anyone who agrees with me. First four seasons were ugly, gritty, more subtle and just looked like typical HBO fare, and i say that as a huge compliment. They felt closer to Deadwood, The Wire and Rome, for example.

Starting with 5th season, it just feels like standard hollywood fare. Just compare the fights. The Hound&Arya Vs The man in the tavern, which was awesome, and all the fights from 5th season, which could have been lifted from Pirates of the Caribbean. This season's first episode shows it's still following in the inferior footsteps of the previous one. Just look at Brienne and Podrick skirmish.

It's all still great though.

Isn't that not true? I was under the impression that, whilst some of the plotlines had now overtaken the books, others were still some way behind; or that events from the books that weren't used may get reshuffled and reused out of the book chronology in future show scenes.

Boo.

Also 0 stars for the latest episode, and (I think) the one before.

What's happened to Robson or Jerome?

Fun episode. Some slow bits, but some good bits.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Yay! Fuck you, Olly!

Snow vs Snow for Winterfell should be great fun, and I look forward to Jon killing Ramsay, or assisting in someone else doing so.

The flashback scene was good. That guy with the two swords was a badass! Young Sean Bean is freakishly like Sean Bean. Also they named the other guy he was with; Howland Reed or something. They don't name someone unless they're important elsewhere. I know what's in the tower, but will be fun seeing it all fall into place. Also, Max Von Sydow is as cool as ever.

I normally like the High Sparrow scenes, but that one was a bit dull.

Arya can see. I'm mixed on this. I kind of liked the idea of her as Daredevil! Still, now she can go and kill people.

I like how you can see this generational shift in attitudes. All the leaders of the North were obsessed with banner men and protecting each other and honour and all that. It got every single one of the heads of the families killed, and their replacements in every way are more vicious and cut throat. They'll all betray anyone to get ahead.

I had a dream that was a way better ending though, featuring dragons and Starks and time travel and stuff.

Thoughts.

Go Dany! Some good badassery. Being impervious to fire is a cool superpower.

Ramsey continues to delight.

The tension between Brienne and Davos/Mel is excellent, as is the sexual tension between her and the ginger wildling!

No Bran! I never thought I'd be upset at no Bran! He's back next week though.

The High Sparrow and Lannisters/Tyrells storyline is going a fraction too slow for me, but it does allow for some great Jonathan Pryce soliloquys.

All in all an okayish episode made much better by the antics of Ramsey and the final scenes with Daenerys.

Keep it coming, GoT!

I really enjoyed last night's episode. I got a little tingle when Daenerys stepped from the flames. I really, really like her. I like that she walks like a boy, is short and curvy. I think she is unconventionally stunning. I wish there were more female actresses like her on the tellybox.

I love Littlefinger. He's so smooth and dangerous.

My thoughts
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I'm starting to get the impression that Danerys is the villain.
It was great to see Sansa finally grow a pair of Starks and *do something*
Sweet Robin is going to be a problem, but hey, the Knights of The Vale are joining the fray (3 years after the war ended)
Osha... wasted. Is this how it is now? Can't think of a way to use a character... KILL? Meh.

Overall: Good episode. Building nicely.

Yes, I didn't like the fact that

Osha didn't need to be in it at all, except to show her being killed. I was happy she was back, and then just annoyed. I guess because from all the "OH LOOK IT IS AN DAGGER" shots you knew someone was getting killed.

I thought that was to show how completely in control Bolton was. He's no fool and at least one step ahead.

Yeah, but we already know that much about him, and how ruthless he is. Although you clearly hopes he gets his comeuppance.
