Does Opera still process the pages on their own servers and send the results to the mobile browser?

So Opera Mini doesn't do Javascript at all?

Seems so, but it's fast and has proper retina display visuals - it really is a massive improvement over the horrendous original. Definitely worth a go.

Google it. Everything is cached through their servers, as MalaBelm has already said. The client app is really like a VNC or RDP window onto Opera's servers.

Just bought pages. Not really sure why actually. It's quite nice, did miss however that dropdav (dropbox access) is now paid only, limiting its usabilty

I always think I am posting in the wrong thread, but let's take a guess with this one.

I use the Twitter app (the one actually made by Twitter) and it works perfectly well.

Except when sharing pictures. To share in the timeline is perfectly simple. Click the little camera, upload pic with a little message, or @ message.

However, I can't work out how to send a picture via DM without going an extremely convoluted way around it. If I want to show friend A a picture of a surprise thing for friend B and so do not want friend B to see it, I have to upload somewhere else first. The only simple place I can find to upload to is Flickr, but most people I know follow me on Flickr. Even then I can't work out how to find the URL of the flickr picture from within the Flickr app so have to upload it, then open flickr in the browser, find my picture and get the URL from there.

If I don't want to put it on flickr I usually email it to myself, upload via the laptop to a picture service, then send the tweet, which is a stupid way around things, I know.

I know you can put D (twitter name) at the beginning of a messages but

A) My typing is atrocious and I will mess this up.
B) I will mess this up.

There has to be a better way, surely?

So, I can see three solutions. Is there either:

1) A Twitter app that allows uploading pics to DM
2) An image hosting app that doesn't require you to also upload the pics to your timeline, with an easily accessible URL
3) Something really stupidly obvious I am missing.

:boots: Smilie means nothing. I just like it.

Maybe. Just had a quick look and the only way to upload these directly from phone/ipod is to email the pictures, but I will check it out properly in a bit to see how it works.

Decided to blitz the iPad today and set it up for me, seeing as I'm the only one who uses it these days. It appears that an unfortunate side effect of two people sharing the same Apple ID is that you can both see each other's iMessages. Not good!

Heh. I bought my daughter an iPhone 3GS for Christmas a couple of years ago and because I wanted it to be set up out of the box and at the time was using my iTunes account on my laptop to register it with I set it up with my iTunes ID. While she was away at school with no meaningful mobile signal everything was tickety-boo. It came to light over Christmas that we were sharing my photo stream, iMessage and both of our reminders via iCloud and the messaging issues were really problematic with the messages she sent me coming through as sent from me with no notification, which caused some issues as I was unaware that she was responding to messages I sent her. I had to call Apple to see what the simplest solution was, which as it transpired, she could set up her own iTunes store ID via her phone without having to do a full restore on her mac.

We share an iTunes account, so that wasn't an option. Luckily you can change the iMessage account to another Apple ID in Settings. :)

Oooooooh. So if I were to get a new JesusPhone and wanted to pass the 3GS on to my wife, she could potentially have access to all the stuff I've bought on iTunes (and even iTunes Match?) while having her own Apple ID for iMessage and whathaveyou?

Indeedy. That's what Ange and I do. It takes a bit of fiddling, but it's not too difficult. Give me a shout if you run into problems.

You just need to either resynch with the original machine every so often, or know each other's passwords if you do app updates regularly for apps that aren't specifically tied to your own account.

Only if you've ever bought apps using two different accounts. If Mrs Rodders has never done this then this won't be necessary.

When did it go up? I've been searching for it this last hour, nothing on app store. Apple must fear it.

Searching never works for brand-new releases. It takes a little while for whatever internal cache drives the search results to propagate, especially to international stores. Use the direct link I pasted, that worked for me.

Must be demand on the uk servers.

Rumours on Twitter is that it's been pulled, maybe only from the UK store. This is usually because of a bug.

Shame they didn't test it on actual webpages. Anecdotal evidence seems to suggest it's quicker, but that might well just be "new car" syndrome.

How dies it get around the "no running external code" stuff?

'They'? It was me. I made that graph. SunSpider doesn't lie. Chrome is a custom UI skin around the same old UIWeb control with no-JIT-compiled JavaScript engine, same as every other third party browser on iOS. They've done at least one clever thing I've found to make it feel faster, and maybe two; but it is always going to suck hard for JS performance.

Oh, I know that, but it's not necessarily an accurate barometer for "normal" browsing.

No, for normal browsing, Chrome should be the same as Safari. UIWebView only diverges from Safari on JavaScript handling.

It is downloadable again now. I need to revisit Chrome on my laptop as I seem to recall that an update gave the option for a Speeddial style home page (which the iOS version appears to have).
