Am I missing something with this show? It seems to be a decidedly average sitcom with added Neil Patrick Harris not being in it enough and Alyson Hannigan being (somehow) dumpy looking. Lots of fast cuts away to one-shot gags, Family Guy style, and Hannigan seems to mostly just stand there and look surprised by everything that's going on around her, as if she's been told "they're going to act, just go with whatever they do". |

S08E04 is terrible. When Friends did a "quiz show" episode it was one of the funniest things I've seen. When HIMYM did it, it was embarrassing. I'm going to watch an episode of Community now and do comparing. |

Fucking hell, this series got good. I was with Grim... up until episode 4 or so. We then gave it a break until last night - then watched the other 12 episodes back to back over two evenings. It's really got back to where it was before - absolutely brilliant. |

Abso fucking lutely. We quit at 5 - the one with the fake woman Marshall thing. we got back into it at ep 6 last night and motored through the rest. Just brilliant. I wasn't impressed with a lot of the latter half of series 7. but post-episode 5 in series 8, it's got back to its heyday. |

I have the last episode of season 9 ready to watch on the train home. I think I have managed to to watch this series in the best way. I watched all of season 1, skipped seasons 2-8 and have just watched season 9.

The ending actually worked really well. Also, the mother was well hot and a really cool character. And they totally didn't ruin Barney. |

We're still part way through the final series. We've been part way thought for quite some time though, it's been about 4 months since we last watched an episode. Interest really dwindled quickly, hard to muster the enthusiasm to even turn on the HTPC. I suspect we'll probably watch it in a similar slightly resigned 'may as well get this over with' fashion just like we did with the last series of Dexter (which was super-shit). |
