Last night I saw the episode with the really heavy Microsoft product placement. It was a little jarring, which was a bit of a shame as the rest of the episode was reasonably good.

Some poor episodes today. Ted being the boss at his work doesn't really... Work. Barney's gambling thing is dragging on too much.

Today? Are you not at work? Or are these episodes you've been watching in the 'parent zone' before sensible folk get up?

Eight episodes a day

You know what I hate? Censored sit coms. Even when they're on at 10pm.

Any reference to adult themes and *SNIP!* strange audio blip and unexplained audience reaction.

Comedy Central has started to mute the word "Jew" in South Park.

I hate the reverse too, where they bring forward stuff like CSI to an afternoon slot but cut out anything remotely gory.

Well that's astonishingly ironic, given the number of south park episodes about how censoring stuff is a moron trick.

Okay, the wedding one was quite sweet. I totally guessed what had happened between Ted and Robin though, as the same thing happened at my wedding, but we didn't find out until we got back from the honeymoon!

Saw the one at the Natural History Museum last night. Superb, for several reasons, such as:

1 - Barney saying, "Challenge Accepted!", which inevitably ends well
2 - Jennifer Morrison being incredibly hot
3 - Kyle McLachlan being wonderfully insane

They became Ted Robbins.

You know the episode where Barney transforms from hippy to Barney, and it does the close up of him pulling his cuffs out of his suit sleeves?

I totally do that every day now.

True story.

It's staggeringly idiotic, and surely marking the word 'Jew' as equally censor-worthy as "cunt", "shit", etc. is highly counter-productive and far more offensive to ("non-Gentiles" - Legal Ed) than the programme itself.

So anyway, I've never got round to properly watching this. Seen the odd episode and large chunks of episodes before, and it struck me as ... iono. Inoffensive.

So, I went to watch some more of this on the train home and I got about 8 seconds before the end of S02

But I do hope S03 starts off with "dery".

S02 was better than the first.

Why are there only 20 episodes in S03?

Writer's strike?

Dunno. I had a quick peek on Wikipedia but couldn't avoid seeing what would happen, so gave up.

The first four episodes of S03 haven't been that good. Enrique Iglesias doesn't make much sense.
The fifth one, with the crazy "Blah" woman, looks like it might be alright, though.

When it's a show about lovey dovey stuff it's not as good. They seem to get into "let's have a guest star" territory a bit, but when you don't recognise them it's better.

Unless something very special happens in the last ten minutes of The Miracle (last episode), season 3 has been largely a disappointment. Stand out moments include

Seasons 4 and (so far) 5 have probably been my favourites.

Though I seem to recall liking #3 also.

I've barely seen the first two series. I should sort that out at some point.

The truncated season was indeed due to the writers' strike, and they've signed up for a 6th season, so we're not going to run out any time soon (they have said it will be between 6-8 seasons in total).

I've been watching series 6 lately and although it's still making me chuckle the over arching storyline is a bit obvious, which puts a slight downer on it for me.

Agreed. Great episode tonight, though (the children's TV show).

Halfway through S04 now

The Fight was a great episode, and S4 seems better than S3 in general.

What are you going to watch next? This four episodes a day means there's probably not enough TV in existence to keep you going for more than a couple of years on this commute

I was thinking of this very show when I posed the question. I think DoccyG has the boxset doesn't he? He's got nothing better to do at the moment than rip >100 hours of DVD for Grim...

Oh man. If I'd known then what I know now, I would've never started watching Lost.

So, one and a half episodes of season 4 left.
Apparently it's getting to me, because I was properly excited toward the end of "Right Place, Right Time" (where he goes out to get a bagel but doesn't go to his normal shop, thus ending up on the corner and meeting "her")
Also, in, er... As Fast As She Can (when Barney is trying to talk his way out of a speeding ticket) what happened to the fact that Barney couldn't drive, which we found out in the episode which Marshall's Fiero was scrapped?

Given that normal people don't typically watch 4 seasons in a week, I suspect they're possibly not paying as much attention to continuity as you might want...

Even so, that's quite a big one. There's been loads of little ones, but that's been the worst so far. Barney couldn't just "not drive", he had a proper phobia of driving. It was a whole scene.

Perhaps he realised he was bad at driving, and so stopped being bad at driving and became awesome instead.

True story.

Is this something I should be watching or not?

It's entertaining, with moments of brilliance. Inoffensive US sitcom.

It also has the single greatest character in the history of television.

This is its downfall, I reckon. They're still so damned nice.


I worry about that - Barney is becoming (like JD in Scrubs) a ridiculous parody of himself. It's not there yet, but it's certainly heading in that direction. Oddly, it sometimes goes the other way, with Barney being completely neutered by simple things (ie driving) and that's A Bad Thing. Barney in S01 was awesome. Barney in S04 is getting a bit daft.
Anyway, the title of single greatest character in the history of television goes to Dr Cox.
