I have the last episode of season 9 ready to watch on the train home.

I think I have managed to to watch this series in the best way. I watched all of season 1, skipped seasons 2-8 and have just watched season 9.

I hated the first few episodes of S9 so I just read about the end on Wikipedia.

If you watch it, it's actually really well done. I was surprised how well the second half of s9 worked, given how drawn out the last few seasons have been.

I bet it was more drawn out than the Wikipedia entry.

I've really enjoyed season 9 so far, but I expect that is partly due to all the flashbacks being new content to me

The flashbacks were largely actual new content, with them pretending to be young.

The ending actually worked really well.

Also, the mother was well hot and a really cool character.

And they totally didn't ruin Barney.

We're still part way through the final series.

We've been part way thought for quite some time though, it's been about 4 months since we last watched an episode. Interest really dwindled quickly, hard to muster the enthusiasm to even turn on the HTPC. I suspect we'll probably watch it in a similar slightly resigned 'may as well get this over with' fashion just like we did with the last series of Dexter (which was super-shit).
