I've never been that big a fan of the Murcielago, it's almost too big, whereas the Gallardo is nice and compact. Veyron - fucking horrible. Fantastic technical achievement, no doubt, but you can't say it's a pretty car. McLaren F1 - never was too keen on it's looks, but you can't deny the "road head" advantages of having the driver's seat situated in the middle of two passenger seats

See, I too prefer the 'compactness' of the Gallardo over the Murcielago. Also, and this is going to be the controversial bit, I'm not that taken with the 458. I still think the 430 is Ferrari's nicest looking car. I have actually driven past a black 458 one evening when I was working in Marlow - sadly it was wrapped around the crash barrier on one of the bridges over the A404. |

Looks-wise, I'd take the F355 over the F430 every day of the week. You can't argue with the F430's juniority (is that even a word?) though, which would no doubt help to reduce costly maintenance bills. |

You can totally tell when I grew and what I grew up watching... Lotus Carlton - It was this or a current BMW M5, and much as I like the latter, I figure a car 20 years old that did 170mph with five passengers would turn a few heads. Ford RS200 (with the 2.3 Evolution engine) - Mark Rennison colours, please. Metro 6R4 - not sure whether to have the slightly underpowered normal version or Will Gollops twin-turbo monster Sierra Cosworth RS500 painted to look like this Aston Martin DB9. Gunmetal grey, obv. Just sex on wheels. Corvette ZR-1 for the Mrs. Not that I would mind. Nissan Skyline GT-R. Sucker for the technology. Need a normal car. Got my eye on a 5 door Golf GTi, so that will do. Not sure I want a Lambo (from walking past Lamborghini Manchester every day, the Gallardo is nicer looking than the Murcielago.) The Ferrari would be nice but I can't choose between a 458, F430 or F40. Besides, the Aston is classier than both. So... 1960 Mercedes SL. Gullwing or convertible, I'm not fussed. |

In my case, I'm thinking classic RS Fords as well... nine choices isn't enough, dammit!  RS1800 Mk 2 Escort... mmmm. I wouldn't kick an RS1600 Mk 1 out of the sack for farting either, nor an RS3100 Mk 1 Capri (in Cologne racing colours and with full X pack with skirts etc., of course).

Why 9 and not 8? As for the RSs, never was much for the Capri, RS1600 (the 80s one). Probably a bit too young for the RS2000 though I saw a few when I was a kid following rallycross. My love of most of those cars is that it was a phase where they were putting big engines in cars with the associated technology barely able to handle it. There is some YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJl0-daCCHs) of Tiff Needell taking an BTCC RS500 around the track and it just wants to swap ends on him all the time. All the Group B cars in rallycross, including the amazing Martin Schanche. 205T16, Delta S4 Just watch the things leaving the line! Oooh... Schanche vs Nittymaki. RS200 vs 205 T16 on one of the fastest tracks. Just watch that RS200 sit back and accelerate! |

GT40 2. Iso Grifo 3. Matra-Simca Rancho 4. Jensen Interceptor, partly because it's a great name, partly because The Baron used to drive one and it's also one of the few sports cars I've ever been in. 5. Volvo P1800 like The Saint drove and I promise not to be a twat in it, unlike the chap in this commercial. 6/7. Bentley Speed 6 like this or like John Steed's. Fuckit, I'll have both. 8. Lotus Elan. 9. Lotus Europa 10. Citroen DS if only because of the way it rose up on its suspension when you started it up, and settled down again when you turned it off. |

Didn't the DS have such mental suspension that it could lift one wheel clear to facilitate wheel changes? The Interceptor was a beautiful but very unreliable car and it's most definitely a GT not a sports car. You can have them totally rebuilt using modern componentry which is probably advisable as the original 7.3l V8 is monstrously thirsty and will struggle to do >7 or 8 mpg in town and will almost certainly overheat. I can remember seeing numerous Matra Rancho's as a kid |

Again, when I was a kid, someone in my area had a Rancho and I seem to remember it had search lights (just headlights on some kind of swivel mount) situated either on the wings just in front of the windsreen, or on the roof above the driver and passenger seats. Totally impractical in Manchester, but I thought that was the dog's bollocks. I was only about 10. |
