mali tested before and it's switched. From the pull cord.

So, now, he has to take the whole thing apart and rewire it all .

Yorkshire workmanship is what I'm fixing.

If it's two-wire you're okay. If it's three-wire you could be hanging from the ceiling making sparking noises.

The oven element has probably stopped working so I got a replacement. I flicked the fused switch by the oven, and the clock stayed lit and oven turns on. Which was odd. So, I turned off the other fused switches. Still, the oven clock and oven were on. I go to the RCD and flick the switch marked "cooker" to off. It all stays on. I flick the one marked "kitchen sockets" to off and oven is finally off. Along with everything else. I remove the fuse from the switch by the oven and flick "kitchen sockets" back to on. Oven works. So, whoever put the kitchen in was lazy enough to not run two separate circuits, but took the time to install and tile around a redundant switch. Fucking Yorkshire craftsmanship.

I need to get out more.

It's a shitty photo, but there are six different colours of wires on the ceiling side for three wires into the light. They also don't have any slack so don't pull out of the ceiling at all.

The wiring on this house is fucking terrible.

Fuck yeah, this too. I hate it, but the ceiling is massive so getting it covered would be expensive as piss, and I can't plaster to save my life.

I know the feeling. Artex on the ceiling in the bathroom. On the ceiling and THE WALLS in the kitchen, for fucks sake

I had artex in my dining room but plasterboarded it over. I also had it in my downstairs toilet but that was small enough to just plaster over.

So yeah... I'm not a fan.

My brothers house had Artex on walls on the stairs.

We have sand tex stuff in our place! It is fucking awful, it was on the walls in the kitchen!

Also, according to the council contractors at least, there is a fair chance that artex might contain asbestos if it is old enough, so be cautious about sanding it down.

Exactly right. That's why I boarded over mine. Didn't want to risk it.

Oven element changed and all is well. I might sort out the wiring by knocking the wall down between the kitchen and the dining room, and sticking a new kitchen into the new room.
