Was that penultimate picture (pre BBQ) the surprise that couldn't enter the Thursday challenge, perchance?

So instead of going on holiday on our week off, because: Joans. We have decided to make a concerted effort on getting some of the house done. Half way through Wednesday and it's going well... The paper in the living room has been a nightmare even with steamers(we've been stripping in there since Saturday).

We're the electrics in that wall recess plastered over and had the plaster removed, or were they just papered over? Are you guys going to plaster/skim it yourselves?

Is that because you've had to ferry Joans to the hospital several times for electrocution related illnesses?

What's worrying is that they only planned to paint a bedroom.

That's work we've had done. When we moved in there was a plug point behind where the white IKEA cube currently is with trunking leading off it around the two walls to where that plug point is (similar to the photo below). We've had it done properly spurred off from the plug point in the bedroom above. The photo is what Joans is going to channel out next, just need to pick up some trunking.

Today my plan was to put up a new blind in the kitchen. This has ended up with me painting the kitchen as well. Not only that, I'm actually going to finish off some jobs in there that should have been done about 8 years ago.

What a moment!

When tiling up to a ceramic bath, do you use grout, sealant or both as the tile/bath interface?

The grout will inevitably fill some of the gap while you're grouting and wiping it off and that's fine but the actual seal between the two should be silicone sealant.

Cheers, I made up a 'bed' of grout, then will top of with sealant.

Fill bath with water in case it dips with weight then seal.

If it's a steel bath against a brick wall, chase the edge of the bath into the wall. Particularly if your house is old. Buy a length of tannelised 4"x2" timber, run it across the joists or in the same direction as the floorboards beneath all four feet. Get hold of some CT1 as it's a much better sealant than silicone. Use Frog tape to get clean edges to the seal, and treat yourself to a tub of Wonder Wipes to clean the inevitable mess. Other than that follow the previous advise.

I think I'm more bemused by the fact that the feed and return pipes appear to be about 8mm wide. But still, 7/10 for creative solutions to problems!

The bits the normally face sideways to connect to a radiator are instead pointing straight up because the connectors are on wrong.

Microbore pipes - the radiators in our last gaff were plugged into pipes that size. I think they caused quite a few problems...

You can get radiators that connect from the bottom. In fact most vertical or portrait ratio rads do this

Valid, it is narrow enough to be a vertical rad.

quite likely, it's in a bathroom. We saw her last night as it happens and questioned her about this, she says it's quite heavy flow and as such has to have it's tampons changed twice a day.

I still don't get this. You should be able to turn both of those valves off.

Just covering it with plasterboard. Hopefully I can get some battening to stick to the steel. This ( and the hole ) are a result of a shower leak. This is the first chance I've had to fix it in months! Wish me luck.

Good luck! I had a shower leak a few months ago too but I was lucky in the only 'damage' being some discolouration, peeled off wallpaper and a bit of a drip coming down the wall.

I still haven't painted over it though obviously.

Yes, fortunately when the flat upstairs from us leaked there was no ceiling damage, just some paintwork to splash on and kickboards needing replacing.

Cut lengths of 4"x2" and bang them vertically into the web at 400mm intervals (that's 400mm centre to centre on the wood). The "web" is the gap between the two horizontal sections of the steel. Get some angle bead for the edges where the plaster board meets, it'll make finishing more stable.

If you need to stick any battening to the underside, then get yourself some CT1 adhesive.
