Nah. I want consequences to be based on decisions, not dice.

You could have combat nearly always hurt to attacker as well as the defender, like in Advance Wars. Or Space Cows.

Or have a fixed attack (due to weapons or whatever) + a bonus that comes from a card the player plays.

The card comes from their hand of 6 or whatever, and the hand doesnt get replenished until they are all used up.

Therefore players need to size up when they think they can get away with playing weaker cards or something.

Or something.

This is intended to be a forum game though, from my side - so I want consequences to be based on decisions, not numbers so much.

Could I put another player on top of my head when I get to the other side of the board?

Hmm, how about a system where each player (hidden from others, via pm or some code magic) commit to helping the "gang" in the battle or "look after themselves". The former let's the group win but you may get bit, and the latter keeps you safe, but you appear to be helping.

Different challenges need greater commit numbers.

A coop game where you are out for yourself.

What about a light character (Mr Dave)

And do you not need to pick up the ceremonial headress beforehand (and is that possibly a couch which would be designed to fit an unusual edge of a room?)

So Craster, Riles, Curio and I tried Pandemic.

It was... Okay. It would have been better if we'd got the rules right. We need to try again - and we'll have to have Roda there to tell us how to play properly.

As it was, we "won" in about twenty turns.

Hadn't spotted this. Yeah, played Pandemic before, Nice idea, but somewhat lacking in execution. Generally all seems a bit easy

The errors we made we insufficient shuffling of the deck, Riles shitting out research stations every turn, and you don't discard cured disease cards until it is eradicated.

That said, I still think you should win without too much trouble most of the time.

Playing with 4 epidemics in the deck, depending on the number of players I'd expect to win somewhere between half and two-thirds of the time. You can, of course, play with anything up to 6 epidemics.

Of course it lacks a bit of atmosphere and tension if you're not in any danger of losing! :D

I know, right? A turn based multiplayer game, and they decided to implement it hotseat only. Morons.

If you had more that one set of the Zombies! game (for instance, we could have three sets at the cottage) I think making sure the helipads are right at the bottom of the deck and splitting into teams of two or three would work really well. Each member of the team has their own pawn with cards, ammo and hearts as normal, but ammo and weapons can be shared between the team. You'd be able to nail far more zombs (put the required number to win up to 25xTeam members, obv), but if you got split up because one of you died it'd be a proper nightmare - just like in "real" zombie situations. We could even invent new cards* that allow you to break up the team.

If you wanted to go mad, you could "specialise" the team members - one carries five cards but needs a 5 or 6 to kill the zombs, one is a heavy gunner who only needs to get above a 3 to get the kill but only has one card and can't use ammo counters, etc.

*Doesn't one of the expansions have cards that are basically 'create your own'?

I got my 100 extra Zombies and should get Zombies 3.5 today, which has more cards to make the game flow a bit ebtter. Will report.

We should do like the topic title says and have a boardgame night.

I'm happy to host it, but I'm not sure I'm easiest to get to for everyone.

For those that don't know (ooh, I can use the thing) I live here:

I'm right in the middle of the country. It makes obvious sense to have it at my house.

How big's your table, though?

Now you're shifting the goalposts! You could probably cram eight people around it if we were all friends.

I have an outside table that could be brought in and placed next to it though.

"Shifting the goalposts" is one of the few management terms I don't mind.

But your main caveat was location. Bring your table to my house. ;)
