Hudson's "illegal aliens" line to Vasquez is an inside joke referencing the fact that, at her first audition, Goldstein had assumed Aliens was actually a movie about illegal immigrants in the United States, and had dressed accordingly. She still got the part, obv.

Huh, according to this page it's an urban myth and isn't at all true.

She's talked about it in interviews, so either she's lying or it happened.

"Hudson sir, he's Hicks"

http://www.flickeringmyth.com/2015/03/m ... equel.html

Quote:
Michael Biehn confirms that he’s returning as Hicks in Neill Blomkamp’s Alien sequel

Here’s some news that’s bound to please fans of 80s sci-fi action! Michael Biehn has confirmed that he’s set to reprise the role of Corporal Duane Hicks from 1986’s Aliens in Neill Blomkamp’s as-yet-untitled Alien sequel.

Posting on Instagram in response to a comment about his scheduled appearance at Sheffield Film and Comic-Con in the UK, Biehn stated that, “I’m not looking at scheduling conflicts with the Sheffield Comic Con, due to my contract for Aliens to begin filming during then.”

Fan favourite Hicks was featured in the original concept art that Blomkamp posted for his then-unofficial Alien sequel, which has since been given the greenlight from Fox and will also see Sigourney Weaver back as Ripley.

Presumably not him, as he's still on the Sulaco.

Somehow.

He's 57 , Sigourney is 65

Either dont mention it or the first thing as they wake up from their hypersleep is that they found the cryo chambers have malfunctioned and they have aged a little

YES SHE IS ALSO OLD

I'm really worried that trying to include them is going to kill the whole thing.

He's not that old and neither is she. Precluding the fact that he may look his age and be in poor shape, he can exercise to cover one and there's careful lighting for the other. Weaver looks great for her age.

What if they came out of hypersleep and have been living happily together as a couple for 30 years? Then the Aliens come back.

But they should both be thirty years younger. That's going to take some serious lighting.

They're going to have to do some serious explaining, which they wouldn't have to do if they weren't shoe-horning the folk from Aliens into it.

Still, obviously, I want to be proved wrong so hard that my nips fall off. But I worry, Myp! I've been hurt before, and I worry so much.

Explain further.

Edit -- aha:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
As the sole ranking Marine aboard the Sulaco, Hicks was awoken from hypersleep by colonists Samwell Stone and Turk who were seeking military aid due to an emergency — the ship had been intercepted by the USS Legato and illegally boarded by Weyland-Yutani PMCs.[7] A firefight with the PMCs erupted in the hypersleep chamber, during which a stray bullet grazed the Facehugger attached to Ripley, spilling its blood onto the floor and triggering an electrical fire aboard the ship, leading to the evacuation of the occupied hypersleep chambers aboard a Type 337 EEV. Before the EEV launched, Turk was knocked into Hicks' open cryotube and sealed inside, and was subsequently launched aboard the departing EEV.[7]

Hicks could only watch as Ripley — and the Facehugger attached to her — was loaded into the EEV and launched from the Sulaco. Hicks and Stone then fought their way through the Sulaco, killing most of the PMCs and Xenomorphs aboard the ship, before taking a Service Skiff and following the EEV to the Fiorina 161 Class C Work Correctional Unit on Fiorina "Fury" 161. Unbeknownst to Hicks and Turk, however, the EEV malfunctioned and crash landed on Fiorina 161, killing Turk and Newt and damaging Bishop beyond repair. As the injuries to Turk's corpse rendered him unidentifiable, he was mistaken as Hicks. As such, Hicks' death was included in a report to Weyland-Yutani by the facility's supervisor Superintendent Andrews. Turk's body was later cremated with Newt on Fiorina 161.

Films that have Aliens and Ripley in: Alien 1-4. 25% terrible. 25% dubious.

Films that have Aliens in but no Ripley: AvP 1-2, Prometheus. 100% brain meltingly terrible.

The odds are on Blomkamp's side.

Yeah - it's pretty clunky (especially the part where the guy falls into the open cryotube) and a lot of people think it's utterly fucking stupid, but if nothing else it does give them an "out" as to why Hicks is still alive.

However, it does mean that, if they're going to stick with this idea, that Ripley and Hicks in this new movie are going to be separated at the beginning...

That was the initial reports, but I'm sure I read something shortly after from Blomkamp that said he wasn't ignoring 3 and R.

Both AvP films were good schlock fun (certainly better than Predators 2 and Alien 3), and Prometheus was watchable.

It was pretty bad until they made the director's cut, then it was suddenly pretty good. For reasons that are beyond my comprehension.

Edit: It sounds like I am dissing those who believe that, which is not the case. I meant it literally, I actually do think the directory's cut is pretty good, and I truly do not understand how such seemingly small differences can add up to such a different overall experience.

Reading up on it, it seems it's not actually a director's cut, but something they call "assembly cut". In any case, I am talking about the alternate version in the Quadrilogy box set, where the dog is no longer there. There are many other changes, and apparently the whole thing is 25 minutes longer, so there are apparently more changes than I realised.

Huh -- I didn't realise the BluRay Assembly Cut fixes the poor audio in the DVD one. I'll have to get hold of that at some point. I think I gave up trying to watch the DVD once because of the murky sound.

The only "proper" CGI is when the alien's dome cracks at the end - everything else was done with practical effects (albeit green screened I believe, if that counts as CGI)

And Alien 3 is much better in the workprint version, but the theatrical release isn't as bad as people make out - it's only because they felt butthurt about Hicks and Newt being killed off.

No, it's cos the original version is a bit crap. The assembly cut is a bit better, but it's still very much the weakest of the 4 "proper" Alien(s) films. Despite some quality Charles Dance.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Sigourney shaved her head, there was a prison planet, Bishop was found all smashed up... er.... most people died I think...
, I don't recall either liking or disliking it.

Perhaps I should find this 'internets approved' version and watch it.
