The curse of Wendy Richards* continues to strike. Trevor Bannister dies. Are you dead Mr Humphries?

Indeed. He was planning a comeback tour and everything.

I now await the inevitable highlights package on the news including a tribute from Stuart Marconi that says his earlier work was best and that he hadn't done much in recent years.

This is a really sad one. Jeff Conaway is currently in a coma after ODing on what looks like sleeping pills and pain medication. He isn't expected to last long.

He played Kenickie in grease but more importantly Zack in Babylon 5

Aw, man. That's sad. It'd been an age since I watched Babylon 5 but I surprised myself by feeling immediately teary and upset reading that.

He played a good 'everyman' character on B5. He first joined the ranks early series 2, and it was a big break for him as previously no one would touch him on account of his history post Grease of drug addiction. But he managed to clean up and put in a committed performance. SFX always used to enjoy joking about his constantly wincing expression as if he had some bowl trouble, but but the fans loved him. It was good to have a character who wasn't weighted down with an epic character arc. Zack's was simple. Average Joe cop joins innocuous organisation for extra 50 bucks a month, organisation proves increasingly sinister, leading to crisis of conscience and fear as he has to choose between loyalty to the increasingly sinister Earth-Gov and his old and trusted (and possibly defecting) chief.

I haven't heard about him doing anything much else since, but I had hoped he was doing okay. There seems to be a curse attached to B5 actors. Richard Franklin has an aneuyrsm shortly after the show ends. Tim Choate dies in a motorcycle accident. Andreas Katsulas dies from cancer. While Trek actors keep on trekking B5 ones tend to, um, die.

Sad news indeed. :'(

Flick Colby, founder member of Pans People and choreographer/dance director on Top of the Pops from the late 60's until the early 80's has died.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-13590366

Pans People and some dogs who don't really seem keen on being on TV in 1973.

1976 saw the short lived Ruby Flipper (which used 2 Pans People members). Axed after 6 months because the people didn't like the fact there were male dancers (I'm also guessing the inter-racial dancing probably didn't go down well in certain quarters either). Here's their first routine:

Then there was Legs and Co who arrived late 1976. Again contains some members of Ruby Flipper but it was back to an all female line-up. When people think of Top of the Pops dancers they usually name Pans People but the ones they are probably thinking of are Legs and Co due to so much of Pans People's era being wiped. Here they are in the BBC Video Tape Department Christmas tape 1978 being enormous good sports.

Then finally there was Zoo in the early 80's. Now music videos were more common they didn't perform as often to songs but were strategically placed in the audience to act as cheerleaders or performed behind band etc. They were also a much larger troupe and were not individually credited.

It's often said that Colby's routines on TOTP were pretty poor but the reality was that the show often required 2 routines per week and in an era when the charts were published on a Tuesday they would often only have under 2 days to plan and rehearse the 2 routines, let alone any last minute changes to the choice of song. It was not unheard of for the songs to be changed just hours before recording.

Well it's a shit year for fans of 1970's TV. Donald Hewlett has died aged 90. He played Colonel Reynolds in It Ain't Half Hot Mum and appeared in countless other Croft and Perry sitcoms as well as serious dramas.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-13661352

Turned up in Doctor Who as well. Possibly in the Claws of Axos with Jon Pertwee.

Poor guy, but probably drunk in a porsche at 110mph on a windy and dangerous road? He's playing with lives other than his own there.

Real shame, I liked the Jackass stuff. You had to admire them for making a shit load of money for just pissing around doing what they liked to do.

Too early to say but looking at the picture he he put on Twitter a few hours before the crash he does look at bit pissed.

Also the ammount of rubber on the road would indicate he was going pretty fast.

Drunk or not its a horrible way to die and at such a young age as well.
