Thinking about Sherlock: I'm half-tempted to rewatch 'Trainspotting' to see how much of a homage some of the sequences were. At least the first half or so was some of the most visually exciting, dramatically mysterious, and, dare I say, joyful television I've seen in a while.

I didn't see it, but Mimi pointed out that when he fell onto the couch one of the cushions flopped over a bit on his head, and the houndstooth pattern on it made it look like a deerstalker hat.

According to Popbitch, Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington have split in real-life, partly because he was caught sending a ton of emails to a female Sherlock fan. Of course it's probably coincidence, but the fact Watson cheats with "a fan" of his blog, and the way Sherlock pointedly says "It was only texts" regarding his correspondence with the dominatrix... well, it all felt purposeful and like penance for Freeman, meted out in the script. If any show could do something so knowing and meta in its writing, it's Sherlock.

Watched the second one too!

Very good, though certainly no less soap opera than the previous one. Which is to say I didn't think either overdid it and they tied in together quite nicely.

The ending of the episode and all that attaches to it, though; seems slightly forced, but I shall reserve judgement until I've seen the whole arc.

Channel 4 are bringing back The Crystal Maze with Richard Ayoade taking on the leopard skin and harmonica. Anyone could be better than Stephen Merchant.

The Ship's a great set, but it comes with Ed Tudor Pole, so it's difficult to gauge.

Whilst nursing a hangover watching old episodes on 'Challenge TV', it occurred to me that the Aztec and Medieval zones are roughly the same time periods, just a few thousand miles apart.

I used to see Richard O'Brien in the local sainsbury's. He looked old and ill, to be honest. Drawn and gaunt and swallowed up by an enormous coat and woolly hat.

But he seemed cheery enough. Mrs Fop was in the cobblers one day when this tiny man opened the door, barked "HELLO!" before slamming it again and walking on his way. The cobbler said that's Richard O Brien, and he does it every morning.

The final episode of Sherlock was well edited, well acted and well scripted, and would have been some pretty awesome TV if it wasn't an episode of Sherlock.

Seriously - what the fuck was all that about? They built a world for us in the first series and that episode shat all over it.

Moriarty! I just love that actor as the character. I was ever so upset when he died. Lovely to see him back, even if the video stuff was a bit rubbish.

Clearing out my DVR, I caught up with 'Cunk on Christmas'. I've always been a little bit uneasy about Ms Cunk's oeuvre, and wasn't sure that she could last half an hour, but I was pleasantly surprised with many laugh out loud lines, of which I've listed three of the most memorable:
