They should have had maybe one more episode in seies 1 and been done with it. The whole Scully turning into a weirdo and geting lesby with Kallinda stuff was a bit much.

Yip - as someone who went through all 5 seasons it starts really well but goes downhill and from S4 onwards its was a real struggle to get through them (despite some good one off ideas)

They've commissioned two more series, too. I think that's old news, but I only read it today.

It's been fun seeing my alma mater on 'University Challenge' and they played brilliantly throughout.

Shame they lost to Magdalen last night, but I was impressed that they reached the semi-final

Poldark and Indian Summers. An overload of scrumptiousness of a Sunday evening. I even fancy Aidan Turner meself. Brilliant casting.

Ballot Monkeys.

Enjoyable with several brilliant lines. Felt very much like a Radio 4 18:30 comedy.

So, ITV's 'Newzoids'. Watched the second episode last night on ITV Player. Mostly pretty lame, but the Kay Burley skit was scarily accurate and the Sherlock one had its moments. The highlight, however, was a trailer for a forthcoming Bible film called 'The Book of Osborne' showing the Chancellor reenacting famous Bible stories ('see, I have made the lame walk'). Very dark and very effective satire. Shame the rest of the show did not reach such heights.
Think I'll just watch for clips on Youtube, if any come my way.

for pure laughs, it's been brilliant. But I think I've enjoyed Catastrophe more. Mainly, I suspect, because I have a crush on Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan.

Peter Kay's Car Share. Better than I was expecting it to be, but that's often been the case for me with his work. As usual, he's taken an every day situation and found the funny side of it.

My only criticism was

that there was not enough piss in that bottle to have squirted out when pushed into the drinks holder, based on what was left in the bottle after the event. But I'm being too picky, really.

Looking forward to the next episode tonight.

There is a BBC drama starting this Sunday, 7 parts, called Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.

I have my hopes that it will be great. Owen had recommended this book to me some years ago, and it is one of the best things I have ever read.

i was going to try and give you a basic synopsis, but as I had tried to explain it to Russell the other evening and made a complete shambles of it, it's probably best that I do not.

It might be worth reading about it on the internet, as I know I'm not selling it very well here, but if it is even a tenth as good as the book it will be awesome.

Caught up with episodes 3 & 4 of '1864' last night. Still loving it. Some of the battle scenes are very well-done, and sometimes (rightly) graphic. The image of the pig will stay with me for a long time.

Poor Peter.

Also, the young Marxist German soldier is currently my favourite character.

Dam it, I love this show.

So glad to hear the new series have begun as these are my favourite two things on TV!

BBC4's 'Timeshift' was about the OS last night. Enjoyable map porn.

I then found myself watching on Iplayer the CBBC 30th anniversary show because I was bored. Some nice clips from the Broom Cupboard years. Alarmingly, Andy Crane has not aged at all. I'm now concerned that I'm older than the current crop of presenters.

Well, what is it instead then? A documentary about the holocaust? A gameshow where members of the public compete to win a free lombotomy? Just naming one thing it isn't leaves quite a lot of possibilities.
