Absolutely loved the second series of 'Peaky Blinders', but as with the first I felt a little irritated by the ending. Dam it, I want Thomas Selby to be in control of the situation.

Still remains one of the best shows of recent times, with great direction, brilliant characters, and a soundtrack of awesome.

I've just started watching 'Only Connect'. Why did nobody tell me how awesome (and difficult) that show is?

Twisted fucking flax!
Only connect is great, they used to use Greek letters as the round question options and people complained that it was too intellectual, so they changed it to hieroglyphics :D

Quiz show presented by Mrs David Mitchell.

Teams have to find the link between four items/clues/people/other things. Very addictive, but also dam tricky.

Victoria Coren, you mean? You sexist pig, defining a woman by her spouse. What is this, the 1800s?

Sorry, came over all Myppy there.

A few users have set up playlists, but IIRC most of series 4 is missing, but if you find a list with loads of eps in then it's likely the full run.

The current series is entirely on iPlayer.

After a while you'll find it clicks, as it's more about lateral thinking than general knowledge a lot of the time.

Surprised no-one has mentioned this yet.
I thought it was great.

Big fan of this show in general and this was one of the best episodes IMO.

I thought it was excellent, the best black mirror so far. Brooker seems to have exorcised his humorous language which always felt jarring. Now he has something which is funny because it's so absurd, not because people are saying rude words. The end was mind bendingly brutal. Merry Christmas!

This show is very well acted, but the overall plot script is crap, the ending (if it is the last season) was really bad.

David Starkey's Magna Carta, other than the self-aggrandising title, is a watchable look at how the Great Charter came about and how it's been used (and abused) since.

BBC4 did another fun 'Hidden Killers of the $timeperiod Home' last week which I caught up with last night. This time round it's the Tudors. Fascinating stuff as ever, and the presenter at one point...

Adam Curtis' Bitter Lake, only available on BBC iPlayer. Rather long (2hrs 17mins) but fascinating to see how the U.S., USSR and UK got embroiled in actions in Afghanistan when they had no hope achieving their objectives, or ultimately, even an understanding of local politics. Almost a real-life parallel with Yes Minister, where their actions had virtually the opposite effect to their plans. It wasn't just about Afghanistan, it also looked at how western politicians handed power to the banks and how far out of control our economies became and how little we understand about the complexity of the world. Thoroughly recommended.

Watched this the other day, some quite graphic depictions of war intermingled with the documentary as well the stunning insight.

This! Along with Jonathan Meades, he's my favourite documentarymaker.

Didn't realise he had a new one out, and interesting that it's Iplayer only rather than also being shown on TV.

Absolutely. He's an impish, proud buffoon. Everyone's excellent in it, Rylance almost perfect.

As someone with a cretinously poor grasp of our history, I found having read the book helped. It's a show that dumps you in the deep end and lets you paddle. Like the Wire with ruffles.

Though I get the impression that you, Kern, would have no problem knowing exactly what's going on in a historical program.

It's not quite UK TV*, but a number of the cast are British so it was the closest fit I could find, but is anybody watching Fortitude and is it any good? I'm hoping it will make it's way to the BBC or Netflix, etc before too long so I can have a peek.

*On second checking, it is. It was created in the UK, the cast are British and (mostly) Norwegian and it was filmed in the UK and Iceland. Just for confusion.

It was very well done, but it wasn't compelling enough to watch the next straight away, and then we just didn't bother with the next for some reason.

The Fall was bloody great, but it didn't know how to handle its denouement, which consisted of two great actors playing compelling characters spouting unfortunate cliches at each other. And I think the story may have run its course.
