I wonder if we'll get a Negan backstory? It could be way more interesting than the tale of how Rick and his pack of wandering idiots got to where they are.

I'm sure they will. They've done it with all the big characters so far I think.

The CGI on those mattresses was diabolical. It took me a while to figure out what it was I was supposed to be looking at.

I've not felt motivated to go back to this since the first episode, and it doesn't sound like there's anything that passes for entertainment any more.

:this:

Except I didn't work it out before the shot ended and I couldn't be arsed to go back for a second look. I just put in the pile of 'stuff that makes no fucking sense in this show', and that's a big pile.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
As in, why destroy the mattresses? It's not going to send any more of a message to Rick and company than they've already got (assuming they ever even saw them at all), and they already had them in transit, so unless Negan knows of a nearby John Lewis that's still got lots of nice bedding and mattresses in stock, he'd take the mattresses with him. Like, all those guys that Rick killed at Negan's outpost, they looked like they'd be pleased to get some new mattresses. NO ONE IS MAKING MATTRESSES ANY MORE YOU WOULDN'T SET FIRE TO THEM.

I think it was to:

Make them all weaker by giving them less sleep, therefore easier to overpower.

Rather than:

Because he knew Ricks group would find them. His net position on matresses remains neutral, but it further undermines Rick, as it makes life a lot less pleasent for the Amityville residents. He could not burn them in the town as it would risk Thrilling Heroics

I haven't read the comic books so this isn't a spoiler, but I strongly suspect it would be similar to Monroe or his sidekick in (R)evolution. Such as he was a nice happy family guy, shit went down, he got beat up badly early doors, then vowed to be stronger and the power kept building.

I miss (R)evolution. Well, the girl anyway.

Yes it's the mattresses that'll really get people terrified, not the fact that he cheerfully kills people with baseball bats, or held a woman hostage on pain of death until a couple of missing guns were found.

I get taking the mattresses because mattresses are a nice thing to have in a post-apocalypse wasteland, but setting fire to them when you're already on the way home with them, not so much.

It's about Rulick, not Neagen. Neagen is cunning. He can get more onboard by undermining Rick than offing people. That is why he done it. And those teeth!

Yes I genuinely couldn't work out what the hell they were, so as the credits rolled as I was none the wiser.

Thing is, I didn't even consider for one second that they would be the mattresses, as destroying them MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE WHATSOEVER. LIKE MOST OF THIS PROGRAMME.

It does make sense though.

Why let your angry town get decent rest if you're trying to manipulate them? It's making Neagan's job easier.

Come the inevitable, I think we'd better run the affairs of BeeX Town ( or as it is known in the wilderness "Fell out, too"), Big Z. We have a much better understanding of teamwork than these goons. You can be my right hand man.

I'll spoiler-tag this just in case.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
As I've already said though, you achieve that by taking the mattresses in the first place, not by subsequently setting fire to them - and I don't believe the 'send a message' nonsense either.

Like, is Michonne going to get back to Alexandria and say, 'OH MY GOD DON'T MESS WITH NEGAN HE'S PREPARED TO SET FIRE TO MATTRESSES!' And the rest of them will be like, 'Fuck me, brutally murdering two people with a baseball bat and threatening to publicly execute Olivia didn't really bother us, BUT ZOMG NOT THE MATTRESSES! Let's overthrow Rick now!'

Mattresses are a valuable and finite resource in TWD's world, and we know for a fact that one of Negan's outposts was equipped with crap mattresses. You wouldn't set fire to nice mattresses.

I thought that he was just sending the message that he would take their stuff but for no better reason than because he can, that they have nothing at all that he really wants or needs, nothing to bargain with. Or to make sure that when they lay their heads down at night, when sleep might give them some small respite from the misery that he'll make of their lives, even then he'll always be there. Love this guy.

...and as a more important plot development point, it keeps the town angry, as opposed to falling into the wilful subservience that Egg and Negan are encouraging. Which means that, guess what, Negan may have made a Bad Decision which has implications for ensuring that some form of storyline can develop!

I really can't tell whether Hearthly is trolling or being thick on this. History has evens on both.

I think you're all overthinking this. Negan's actions with the mattresses can be explained in just 3 words: he's a cunt.

I clearly wasn't paying attention very well, as I saw them taking the mattresses, but somehow missed him burning them. When was it?

Right at the end, when Michone went back to the field, she saw smoke, went to investigate and stumbled across a pile of mattresses on fire.

Yo Grim..., TWD E5 doesn't seem to be working on ("sex" - Ed) - hen I try to play it it comes up with ("a great idea" - Ed), the ("auto responder" - Ed) crashed or failed to ("achieve an erecrion" - Ed)" - same on PS4, 360 and PC access to ("T-Rex" - Ed). Everything else seems to work fine on there.

Latest episode was pretty bad, even by TWD's own somewhat low standards.

Extra points for the clanging great continuity error where a metal/plastic ladle changes into a wooden spoon from one sentence to the next.

My official line on TWD has always been that it's generally above average enough to warrant the relatively small investment of time required to keep up with it, but between the grinding unpleasantness and babbling incoherent nonsense that Season 7 has served up thusfar, one has to wonder if the hour a week could be better spent doing something more worthwhile, like trying to construct a small wig-wam for earwigs out of scavenged nasal hair.

Each week I watch this show, enjoy it, and wonder what ridiculous reason Hearthly will give for not liking it. Was it devoid of hope? Too much hope? Not enough happening? Too much happening? Let's spin the Wheel of Hearthly!

It was a spoon! I didn't see that coming.

I thought it was another good episode. It showed a different way in which 'life goes on', had many hopeful scenes amongst the oppressive hell in which they live, and it had Trevor from GTA being funny.

I also didn't know until yesterday that the guy playing Jesus was a posh British chap, who had previously been in Skins.

EDIT - I have no idea if he is actually posh, but he speaks like Jack Whitehall.

Who didn't also note that Carl and Enid were walking to hilltop in the daylight, nighttime fires and crazy happened, and in the next scene were walking to hilltop in the daylight with no reference to them being away from Alexandria overnight.

Who didn't also note that Carl and Enid were walking to hilltop in the daylight, nighttime fires and crazy happened, and in the next scene were walking to hilltop in the daylight with no reference to them being away from Alexandria overnight.

non-linear story telling?

Each week I watch this show, enjoy it, and wonder what ridiculous reason Hearthly will give for not liking it. Was it devoid of hope? Too much hope? Not enough happening? Too much happening? Let's spin the Wheel of Hearthly!

It was a spoon! I didn't see that coming.

Supports the spoon theory.

Well yes, it's quite easy to think up all sorts of plausible explanations for Carl and Enid's jaunt out, but less easy to see how Maggie managed to magically transform a ladle into a spoon.

For Carl and Enid, they seem to operate semi-autonomously anyway (Enid in particular has been going off on trips outside the walls for as long as she's been in the programme as best I can recall), the whole community is under pressure to gather resources for The Saviours, so I can well believe Carl and Enid disappearing off overnight would go largely unnoticed and/or uncommented on.

As for the continuity error with the spoon, that was of course not what made me think it was a poor episode, it was pretty much everything else that happened, or was said (oh by christ some of the dialogue was bad), or was shown onscreen, that made me think that. Yes Mr Ogg is good, but he's actually better as Trevor in GTAV than he is in TWD for my money - he's kind of wasted here. (His turn in Better Call Saul was a fuckton better than this, in fact, Better Call Saul is in a whole other universe from TWD. The latest episode was both stupid and boring, you know something's really quite bad when you can't help but start dicking about with your phone and hoping for the programme to finish.)

Me continuing to watch TWD is like that bad relationship you just don't get out of for a long time after you really should have done, because somewhere inside you're clinging onto a sort of desperate hope that one day it'll go back to how it was before, but deep down you know it'll never happen and all that's left is empty fucking and the sadness of silence afterwards when you realise neither of you have a thing of any note or tenderness to say to one another. And then you wash your cock in the sink before trudging three miles in the pouring rain to get the Metrolink home, as your soul screams for something better.
