New season: very familiar but it felt so good.

I thoroughly enjoyed that first episode; they managed to bring us up to date with the current state of the group plus introduce some new characters and also set up an intriguing mystery that seems likely to drive the first part of the season and all without over-stuffing or under-serving any of it. There was a time part the way through one of the previous seasons that the slow pace of the thing was really starting to get on my tits, but between this and stuff like the fantastic Boardwalk Empire I'm really enjoying the slow-burn decompressed story telling these days. Well, either that or it was genuinely saggy in places before and they've just upped their game which is equally likely I suppose.

It's interesting also in the way it deviates from the comics. The broader strokes are there but the characters have been shuffled around and some subtle differences thrown in . It's good to see something recreated in another medium that doesn't slavishly hew to the source text but also doesn't needlessly throw any of the good stuff from the original out. I think they've got a good balance going.

It's been renewed for a fifth season, and there's also talk of a second TV show set in the same universe but with an entirely different cast which could be good.

I don't think we're going to be rid of the zombies for a while yet.

I'm pretty bored of the prison setting now. Hopefully the recent troubles and the reappearance of the 'big bad' will get them moving soon.

I can't see them being there for much longer. Make the zombies more of a threat again.

I'm watching it on Fox but I'm reliably told that Sunday's torrentable episode is the best yet. I might have to skip ahead and DL it!

I take it that this worth watching then? I saw the first 15 minutes of Ep 1 and got bored rigid. I also don't like all the new people.

It'd be a real shame to watch three seasons and not watch this one. That first episode weren't that bad. It had a decent end if I recall correctly.

It's okay. This is The Walking Dead. Most of them are gone by now.

This semi-season starts slowly, but the last 3 episodes are among the best ever in the show. It's really worth it.

And among the new people there's another The Wire actor, which is cool.

When you consider that Walking Dead is in the same universe as Days of Thunder and Rowdy Burns never fully recovered after the accident, but nobody told him of his un brain damaged former career as it might have upset him: it is both tragic and awesome.

Wait until the episodes away from the prison. Best ones of the series.

Episode 5 was .... ok. I like Hershel a lot more than I used to.

Interested to see how The Big Bad is brought back in in episode 6.
