Wait, season 3 had started? On five? Did I watch 2 on five or just 1?

Why do I even care? I want them all to die except the redneck. Especially that fucking child.

Season 3 premiers on FX on 19 October. So, no, no and er... two, I think.

I don't want the girl from the farm who's doing the oriental guy to die. Hopefully she'll have to fight zombies in panties this season. Although why I'd get turned on by zombies in panties isn't quite clear. Never mind.

Fair enough. You realise though that Shane is very much a real actual character in the comics and not a manifestation of Rick's psyche?

As I said, I've not read the comics but I saw that description somewhere previously. Happy to stand corrected.

Aye, his character arc is almost exactly the same as the TV series. There's more detail here if you're interested, although it could be very spoilery for the TV series from the "Killed Victims" section of the article onwards, assuming they intend to keep the broad strokes of the story the same as the comics.

Very much the same? Really? I've read up to book 15 or so in the comics, and I have to say that the Rick in the telly program has gone through an awful lot less

not having a hand chopped off or having Lori and his baby dying, for instance, which all preceded the nutsy phase
and then had a very uprupt shift into psychobilly mode. Comic Rick would definitely disapprove of Telly Rick.

Still, other than that bit at the end of Series 2, I've been enjoying it and am looking forward to watching the first episode of series 3 this weekend on the internets.

On the other hand...

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Keeping Shane around much longer in the TV show has provided some prop for Rick's character change. The show set them up as a two sides of the same coin -- one's a good guy, the other's a survivor. In the comic, Shane is just a violent twat who's killed off almost as soon as he appears, and exists more as a sign of Carl's lost innocence than to be a character in his own right. We see the loss of humanity that being a survivor results in in Shane, and now we see it start to take the same toll on Rick. That compensates for the more sudden shift in Rick's character, to my mind (which was probably required because of the show's glacial pace in S2). In hindsight, it would have been better if the comic had taken this path too, but I suppose Kirkman hadn't planned that far ahead when they killed Shane off. This feels like an instance of the TV show learning from the comic and making changes for the better.

Bamba - ah, I'm a dolt.

Gaywood - I think you're probably right, there. I haven't had an issue with the TV series not following the comics (however excellent they are), and have instead enjoyed teh way they've taken the characters off in different directions, but it was just this one thing that jarrred for me.

If Lori dies in the comics and hasn't died in the TV show, then I've got an issue with it.

If they're happy enough diverting hugely from the comics, can we have Carl be set on fire soon? "Carl, Carl! Why are you on fire CARL?!"

Thanks for the info about the re-start date.

I'm actually quite glad I don't have to start watching it again yet. Which is bizarre; it's shit and I don't want to watch it, but I know I will, and I'll hate it.

She does die in the comics but not until a good bit after Shane so they could still be leading up to that in the TV show. I hope so, not just because she's fucking annoying but because her death makes for some interesting stuff with Rick alone and with Rick/Carl later on down the line.

Also, Carl is nowhere near as annoying in the comics (at least I don't remember him being) and I personally think the toll of all the brutality he's seen is going to become a plot point soonish in the comics. Him being annoying in the TV series is a symptom of fucking lazy writers using 'endangered child' as a shortcut to drama and sympathy because you're just supposed to instantly give a fuck when a child's at risk of getting eaten regardless of how hateful the child is or how unbelievable the frequency of their endangerment. This is doubly bullshit when, like me, you mostly hate children anyway even before a show begins rolling out this kind of intelligence-insulting tactic.

While you are the best kind of correct, it doesn't take a super-genius to work out what that means.

I have this recorded. My American pals said it was awesome, and that it did ridiculously good numbers for the channel it was on. Means nothing to me, but they seemed happy.

Now I know it only vaguely follows the comics graphic novels, but it was 1 series per chapter before, but it seems like its going at hell speed now, it's going to go through at least 2 or 3 chapters at this pace.

I hate new badass Carl. I didn't think it was possible to hate him anymore than last season but he's outdone himself. Stirling work with such little airtime.

The flashback at the start of S03E03 shows you that hill billy man has put on a fair bit of weight since the apocalypse.
