Thoroughly average episode, surely?

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
So it ties up the loose ends from the mid-season cliffhanger, which it had to do of course, and then basically sends THE ENTIRE CAST out on a suicide mission which would indeed have resulted in them all dying unless Abe and his mates had turned up within a really specific 15 second window to save the day. And none of them were co-ordinating any of that in any way whatsoever so it was just blind luck.

Even the ZOMBIE HACK HERO FACE MONTAGE stuff managed to be rather dull.

HACK SLASH QUICK SHOT OF CGI ZOMBIE X 99999 VERY DULL.

It'll get 45 minutes a week out of me when it's on air, but even that's just because I really like zombie stuff. The show is pretty crap, in all honesty. (I stopped watching Dexter because that got boring and samey and crap and it turns out I won't watch serial killer entertainment just for the sake of it, but zombies get a pass, so I'll stick with TWD. FTWD is the better bet out of the two at the moment I reckon,)

The bit with the rocket launcher and the bikers was funny and a surprise, I had forgotten they had one of those and was wondering how they would get out of the biker issues

Then later on..

Given they killed off a load of characters in the usual random way, how does Glenn get another pass? He was all but eaten by the fence then help arrives with machine guns! That crazy guy who took the nurse hostage was bitten with far more space between him and the zombies

I should probably get round to watching the previous episode at some point so I can pick up with the new one. I really enjoy TWD when I sit down to watch it but, for some reason, I often find myself lagging behind and not feeling like firing it up.

Compared to the towering majesty of, for example, Breaking Bad - TWD is thoroughly average at best of late.

I thought BB was great, although it got a bit baggy towards the end.

TWD is on the whole very good. Maybe I'm biased, as I love the comics, but it's still every bit as much worth watching as it ever was.

I thought that was a cracking episode. The time absolutely flew by.

Some surprises too, especially with how quickly certain people got eaten.

Episode 10 was entertaining enough although the stunning stupidity of the main characters continues to astound me....

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
So having found what is damn near the holy grail (a truck stuffed to the brim with supplies, which we have just established are starting to get in very short supply in Alexandria), Rick and Daryl, in their infinite wisdom, decide NOT to immediately return to Alexandria with their life-preserving haul, and to go back via a DIFFERENT ROUTE to the one that they've already established is safe, just sort of, because, erm? Why was that? Stopping at a what is obviously a bombed out/looted petrol station (i.e. not a great bet when you've got, y'know, a truck full of provisions with you), a chain of events that causes them to lose their entire findings is then set in motion. GOOD JOB GUYS.

That said it was a reasonable episode, enough going on to keep it interesting, and the new character is intriguing.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Rick and Michonne sexy times eh?

EDIT TO ADD on the STUPIDITY -
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
So when they discover the TRUCK OF LIFE in the barn (which is basically what it is), not only do they decide NOT to take it straight back to Alexandria, they also decide to ABANDON their car to 'come back for it later', and then have both of them set off in the truck. WHY WOULD YOU EVER DO THIS? One of you get in the fucking truck, one of you get back in the car, and take both of those vehicles straight the fuck back to Alexandria via the known, safe route that you've just taken.

Instead they leave a known, good, working vehicle in the middle of nowhere, and have both of them get in the truck, which they have no real way of knowing how well it's going to work, it might just break down, for example.

So they end up getting back to Alexandria with no truck, none of the contents of the truck, they've lost their original car, but what they do have is a mysterious new dude who keeps trying to steal their things.

HOW DID THESE PEOPLE SURVIVE SO LONG?

It was ace. Also "law of averages" had a lot to do with it. they were acting that way to break a bad run. Which is why they kept saying it.

Whilst I was shouting at them to just get the one truck and fuck off home, the characters are clearly getting desperate. It's like a gambler who gets a big win and then stays at the table instead of just walking away.

There's just no level on which I can buy into this interpretation.

These people are supposedly the 'best of the best', the 'TWD World' is the most brutal realisation of Darwinism imaginable, the penalty for making mistakes is literally getting eaten, or killed by what other humans remain, so the people left at this stage of the outbreak are by definition as good as it gets in survival.

As such the idea that they just keep getting away with utter bone-headedness like last week's idiocy
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Rick deciding to, erm, try to kill all the zombies
or this week's truck shenanigans has gone past the point of wearing thin and into the realms of lazy writing and blatant plot devices to move things in the preferred direction - and hokum about 'law of averages' is nowhere enough for them to get away with such nonsense.

Daryl is just too damn good at surviving zombie-geddon for me to believe his character would have done that with the truck, so the entire episode past that point felt false and forced, because all the time I'm thinking 'You two chaps would be back at Alexandria by now, sharing out the toothpase, if the writers weren't so fucking lazy'.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
And of course, it all fucked up for them anyway, because they lost the lot, and the penalty for that sort of mistake in this world is death, except these guys are apparently immortal.

Episode 11 was better I thought, and it seems the events of Episode 10 will at least lead into interesting new territory.

Still far too many characters to really keep invested in all of them though, to the extent I genuinely forget what some of them were up to the last time they had any significant amount of screen time.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
And now we appear to have a whole load of new characters to get used to, as well. Although the new established settlement is an exciting development, especially with the prospect now of SHOWDOWN between Rick's crew and Negan's crew.

No change overall though, I'll peg it at 6-7/10 most weeks, sometimes dropping down to a 5, or up to an 8 or 9 for the extended 'Morgan' episode of Episode Four of this season for example. (And case in point of course, they put all that work into Morgan and then you hardly see the chap for weeks. There's too much dilution of the roster.)

How come you don't stop watching it? I'd have given up long ago if I thought it was an average or even an above average show - I've just got so much non-average shit to watch.

I thought the first season showed some promise to begin with, but when characters in any programme start acting like fuckwits simply to push the plot along, it makes me feel like I'm wasting my time watching. Having said that, in a fit of having nothing to watch a couple of years ago I downloaded seasons 2 and 3 largely because of you lot spunking over it like a bunch of priapic jocks practising for the bukkake world championships. It's still shit and you lot are a bunch of taste free cretins  I'm not bitter...

@Grim... and DBSnappa

Part of it is because it's gone off the boil over an extended period of time, Season One was fantastic and whilst the quality definitely slipped from Season Two onwards it was still great. I can't remember when I first got the feeling it'd slipped into 'above average' territory, Season Four or Five maybe?

However by this point IIRC I was up to date so it was only an investment of 45 minutes per week when it was on air, and (a) It's still good enough and (b) I'm still interested in it enough - to make it worth watching. Also of course, (c) zombies, and I fucking love most anything to do with zombies and the whole post-apocalypse world scenario.

As I said the other day, I don't watch much telly, maybe two or three episodes of 'something' per week, and I'll try and get a film or two in as well, so TWD fits into that model pretty well. I'm aware there's supposedly all this fantastic stuff out there, but it'd have to displace a large amount of videogame playing in my free time, and that ain't gonna happen.

Also it's a family thing, at this moment in time for example I'm typing this post (obviously), but I've got Hearthstone running, and Mrs Hearthly and Hearthly Jnr are questing in WoW together in the same room (we've deliberately got all our main computers in the same room), so me planting myself on the sofa and putting a programme/film on wouldn't be very polite (and quite possibly very unsuitable content for Hearthly Jnr). I will watch the latest episode of Better Call Saul once they're upstairs though. (Which won't be until around 8:30-9PM, so just about right to watch an hour of telly before starting to wind down for bed, after a few more games of Hearthstone.)

I think the point is more that if you only get a couple of hours of TV a week, you'd be better off watching something good!

I can relate a bit, I find the TWD to be consistently promising but just as consistently disappointing. Watched it up to now but not bothered with this half of the season that's currently on, not sure if we will or not, there would need to be a real dearth of anything else.

:this: Your response there is pretty weird Hearthly because it goes into this big justification about why you can't make any more time for TV when absolutely no one's suggesting that. The easiest and surely most screamingly obvious solution is just to stop watching The Walking Dead and watch other stuff instead. If you're not going to do that then it does seem a bit pointless to keep moaning about it; it's almost as if you somehow enjoy being disappointed by it.

It's almost as if different people do different things for different reasons, and sometimes those reasons may seem illogical to others, or weird, even.

EDIT - And I'm cheerfully saying it's 'above average', I'm happy to watch an above average zombie series when I'm already six seasons of time investment into it, but at the same time I will comment on what I do and don't like about it.

Fair enough, though it honestly doesn't come across like you're at all happy to watch it hence the comments here about why you're bothering.
