GET READY TO JUMP ON A HYPE TRAIN.

E3 showing "on very good authority" says The Guardian newspaper.

If this actually happens then I don't know what I'll do. I'll probably just cry. Just tears of joy. Sobbing uncontrollably. My body will shut down and I'll suffer a catastrophic embolism and die before I ever play it.

It looks bloody brilliant. Not surprising that it's taking them so long, that creature must have to do different animations for every puzzle.

I do hope this is good because more good games is good; but after not being particularly fussed with ICO or SotC plus the amount of time this has spent in development (not always a good sign) I'm not all that optimistic.

Hmm, yeah, I'm slightly more concerned having just watched the trailer.

It makes me think about an interview I read with the producer years ago when talking about SotC. He talked about wanting the horse to feel more like a real horse so they coded it to not always 100% do what you wanted it to; so it had a bit of personality about it. You can see aspects of that idea in the Last Guardian trailer where you need to jump up and down for a while at the end of that platform before the creature finally gets the idea you want it to jump across to the other side. Which is well and good in terms of giving the thing a personality and all, but I worry that when playing an actual game for hours it just gets annoying that it doesn't take direction well. The worst thing you can do in a game is put a barrier between idea and execution (see: any puzzle game where you've already worked out the solution but have to spend boring time with fiddly mechanics actually implementing it)

Also, the puzzles there seemed contrived and weird. So you jump across onto one platform so you can basically destroy it and jump back onto the side the creature is on and swing on it's tail. Why? Also you need to roll that column forward so it can climb up on the final platform, but you'd expect that column to just roll out under it's claws as it paws at it. The whole thing just looked like they'd had the idea of this companion creature then tried to work out reasons to use it after that. Hmmm.

SHUT YOUR MOUTH.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!

I did think the same about the log but insofar as the big windmill thing I can imagine you'll have come across that earlier in the game and you'll learn that cat bird dog face hates them for some reason and you can't progress until it's removed or destroyed.

Also, had you spent more than 5 minutes on Shadow of the Collosus you'd realise that the horse is marvellously implemented and there's not a moment when it doesn't do what it's told and, in fact, it can move about when you're riding without much input from the player which enables you to admire the scenery, stand on its back, track colossi and so on without worrying about the players need to aggressively take control of the horse.

I'm not slagging the idea off per se, I had no issue with the horse in SotC at any point in my wanderings. Which were relatively sizeable as there was a point when I had no idea where to 'trigger' the next collosus so just spent some time exploring the place.

I've watched the video a fair few times now and I've only just realised that there are two pegs that stick out above the platform and you actually roll the log against. It does make sense after all.

I went into a shop today and they have a box saying you could Pre-Order this. The box was just black with the words The Last Guardian on it but it looked official as it someone had sent it to the shop.

Cool story, right?

Here's some better footage of The Last Guardian's giant screen where you can interact with the giant cat bird fish dog. It comes out, gives you a sniff, flaps it's giant ear lugs and has a rare reaction where it closes its gate and goes and has a nap.

This is probably the best teaser thing I've probably ever seen for a game outside of allowing you to play a game and ransoms walking around in costumes and shit at trade shows and conventions, as far as I can remember.

Apparently it is reacting with the same AI used in the actual game.

Here's the link. Prepare to wub.

I don't think that's particularly meaningful; you can pre-order a whole load of stuff on Amazon at varying states of readiness and none of which have firm release dates e.g. Horizon: Zero Dawn, WiLD, Detroit: Become Human, Dishonored 2, Mass Effect: Andromeda and For Honor.

I've sat and had a good think about this and I've decided, like some kind of moron, if they do a super special edition with Cat-Dog-Bird plushy and some ridiculous tat for over a £ton... I'm going to pre-order for the first and only time of my life. I don't think I've been this excited about anything ever before, which is a weird emotion to have especially since it has the potential of being utterly crap. I can't describe the feeling of elation watching that E3 demo video and discovering that it may, at some point, actually be coming out.

Amazon routinely list placeholder (ie made up) dates/prices/details for upcoming games.

The price is somewhat relevant, since they will honour preorders at that price (or lower if they reduce the price), but everything else is basically meaningless.

Delayed

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/09/ ... -guardian/

Quote:
An Update on The Last Guardian

The Last Guardian development team is fast approaching major milestones in production and has made the tough decision to delay the release of The Last Guardian a few weeks. The Last Guardian will launch on December 6, 2016.

Fumito Ueda, gen DESIGN and JAPAN Studio have a wonderful vision for The Last Guardian’s touching, emotional journey of friendship and trust, and we want to deliver the most polished experience possible for our fans who have supported us for so long. A delay is a difficult decision, particularly with this game, but we have encountered more bugs than anticipated while in the final stages of development. To ensure that The Last Guardian delivers on the experience that the game’s creators have envisioned, we need to take the extra time to work on those issues.

Our development continues to push itself to the fullest and we look forward to revealing new content toward launch.

We appreciate your continued support.
