Made Iron bucket in deep dark pot hole.
Found lava.
Will lava melt bucket? or can I have a lava moat? There is only one way to find out!!

Fight!!

Wait no. I mean. Try it.

Wait no. I mean. Go to bed. First.

Haven't been so engrossed in a game in years.

My house has a lava waterfall.

I found diamonds and gold, and mined them out. Then a skelington killed me and when I went back to get my stuff, there were no diamonds or gold to be found. Grrr.

This is why I've took to farming obsidian in the deep mines and cladding my important walls with that.

Whatever next?

*if* Dimrill actually started farming in a PC game and selling it then it would be the end of the current financial system , he would have more money than anyone else in the world , and we'd be carrying around little hand drawn pictures of him with numbers next to him in our wallet.

Homeless people would stand on the street corners asking if you could spare any Dimrill's
World leaders would be discussing what would happen to the world economy if Dimrill went on holiday , or one of his Pigsies was sick

Right. Exploring The Great Pit of Many Deaths has been halted. Too difficult. I need better equipment. Going to find an Iron source from else where and commence work on the Second Great Expansion of Lave Castle.

Seconded. The man's demented genius and work ethic is producing wonders.

In other news, house party was awesome, and have escaped the hangover despite two bottles of wine. But now I have to tidy up. :(

I want to play Minecraft.

Gah! I've just fallen into some lava while doing my latest shenanigans and lost my precious diamond pickaxe! My diamond sword was thrown clear, thankfully.

If his sales keep growing at this rate I think he will find it hard to resist the temptation to retire to a yacht in the Caribbean before Christmas.

Nice to see everyone so excited about something that looks like mode 7 on a Snes which just goes to prove that graphics don't matter. :)

Brilliant! I have been much braver with my digging and have uncovered lava a couple of times now. It's pretty scary when you burst through a block in front of you and a stream of lava come pouring out! The eye of Sour Ron (*giggles*) is brilliant though!

Indeed when I bought it 10 odd days ago it was at about 35k copies (and he's been working on it and selling it for a year. And he's pushed past 50k. Thats about 1.5k a day!

Nemmie wrote:

Indeed! But strangely I think the graphics really matter in this case. Good enough to have a great charm of their own, and yet vague and descriptive enough to allow you to fill in the blanks yourself. I think if the graphics were of oblivion level then it wouldn't be nearly as good. Your creations would look faker. If that makes sense.

A giant tower of the same hyper-realistic block would never match Lave Towers.

It also allows the game mechanics to stay extremely simple so your not scrolling between a hundred different angled blocks and so on.

I do like the graphics in this. Sometimes I think maybe a TF2 style would be even more awesomo, but you're right about the pleasing gap between representation and imagination that this game allows your mind to fill. The moment you boot up a world there's the thrill of an instant feeling of ownership. This is my world. I am going to explore it. The giant claw shaped mounting with the waterfall is at the centre of my new universe.

I have a problem in that I work painfully slowly in this game as I hate having a negative impact on the visuals. So I tend to build free-standing houses instead of carving them out of hillsides or cliff-faces. (Though that's going to change now after a terrifying assault by a horde on my dinky house!) I spend more time than I should cutting down the tree canopies left by my deforesting. Hope he makes all the leaves fall to the ground after chopping up a tree in future updates. I hate leaving green clouds floating around.

Incidentally, what music do you guys listen to playing this? Or do you listen to music at all? I switch between classical and purely in-game.

God, this game is great.

Completely ingame. Otherwise when I'm mining I wouldn't be able to hear the running water or enemy sounds to find another cavern.

I mine by night and builld my tower to the island in the sky by day.

I'm currently on a mission to make a tunnel between my mines and my castle, so I don't have to trek between the two. Scary at night, after all.

Things that need improving on:

Feathers. More of. I'm finding it hard to find enough chooks during the day to gather from and killing an zombie isn't much of an option for easyness due to the damage incurred. Arrows seem to be the only sensible option to kill creepers, so it'd be nice to have an easier supply of feathers. :S

Iron. More of. The veins need to be bigger if he's serious about wanting to have the rails and minecarts within grasp.

Agree with all that all Dimmers. Really struggling to fine iron ore.

But I do have two buckets now, which is making my moat take shape.

Righto. This is an exciting new world I'm in here.

I quit the old world of previous days due to lack of easy resources. I'm currently residing in this one near a beach with a big open cast mine seam, surface coal and iron laying around, with at least five nearby entrances to caverns. Great huh? Well, there's a drawback. I'm besieged every night. By at least four monsters. And while some of them die in the morning there's usually at least one spider and one creeper. I try and lure the creepers away and just keep running, so that they'll eventually explode just as I'm moving out of range, resulting in minimal damage. The spiders are a bit of a tougher gig.

Anyway, I've decided to stop playing slow and I've spied a big talon shaped mountain top, and my aim as soon as the sun rises is to head up there and build a big mountain top keep. Eventually I shall convert the entire thing into a stone fortress, with a bridge across to the next mountain top.

Two things. I have a bow and arrow. How do I shoot with it? Do I have to do any special inventory stuff?

Second, any chance of attaching your save files as attachments to the forum, or hosting them some place? I'd like to poke around your worlds! :D

I've got a bit of iron ore, hoping for more around the place. If only I could bring some over for you. :(

Looking forward to checking out your world, dimmers! Baked up sixty units of hard stone. That should kick my big mountain top tower fort. Then to dig down. I'm going to draw the concept on a notepad now and try to stick to the architectural plan. Mervyn Peake's fortress here I come!

...

Eek! There's things outside again!

I'm struggling for iron too, was hoping there was some strategy. I've had to stop using iron pickaxes on grounds they use too much resource up.

Unclear on what building blocks I should be using. I'm using cobblestone for now, but I have another reddish one in my inventory I cannot identify. And now Pete is talking about "hard stone" and I don't know what that is.

Stone is grey, when picked > cobblestone
Cobblestone melted in a furnace > stone.

The pinky one is probably gravel. Easier to shift that, dirt, sand and clay with a shovel. Sand and gravel actually obey gravity, hence if you hack away at the base of a column of it it'll shift down.

Got this to work. And by god man. You have a calling.

You are a king!

I'm speechless.

Well heres my world. It has nothing on Dimrills. There are 3 to 5 places of note, with rough sign posts pointing to 'em.

I seem to be under constant attack by creepers at the moment, so the outside of the house it quite messy from temp reconstruction.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERWRITE YOUR WORLD 2!

EDIT: incidentally I renamed Dimrills world2 save (that came from a windows machine I believe) to world3 (which is empty in my game) and it ran fine on my macbook. YMMV.

Found it but couldn't find a cart. Instead I jumped off down the waterfall.

You've inspired me to buck my game up.

I'm struggling for iron too, was hoping there was some strategy. I've had to stop using iron pickaxes on grounds they use too much resource up.

Iron ore comes in small seams, and is most likely to be in natural caves.

Cobblestone should be your go to building material, but it doesn't really matter what you use.
