As an aside, I only found out about The Dresden Dolls after seeing that you listened to them a lot, often between The New Pornographers and the Pipettes (two bands I adore, especially TNP). That piqued my interest and I downloaded the free studio tracks from their website, went "Oooooooh" a lot, and now loves them.

When did you see the Melvins at the Hop & Grape? I saw them there in... early 2001 ish. Was a blinder! That was the first time I ever saw them, seen em a couple times since then, each time they floor me, amazing band.

Hooray! I do think Yes, Virginia is their strongest album, although it doesn't have Coin Operated Boy, which is brill. I do keep finding myself listening to TNP. I should probably get Challengers... my favourite tracks mostly seem to come from Twin Cinema and Mass Romantic.

No, Virginia is growing a bit on me. I do like the cover of Pretty in Pink.

No, Virginia is growing a bit on me. I do like the cover of Pretty in Pink.

I do like 'Coin Operated Boy', though from that album the stand-out track for me is definitely 'Girl Anachronism'.

I prefer Yes, Virginia, as I have a huge love of bands/singers who use the piano a lot, and I find that the style of playing I enjoy is reflected well on that album (I'm a big fan of Ben Folds Five, Regina Spektor etc). Also, it plays up to my sense of the theatrical.

I'm excited about Amanda Palmer's solo album, especially since she's recording it in Ben Folds's studio, and he is contributing to the record!

Maybe I'm swayed because of the part in the video where Bush is sitting in the classroom and has just been told that America may be under attack, and he just sits there. That sequence scares me so, so much.

But that means you haven't listened to Dirty Business, My Alcoholic Friends, Shores of California, Mandy Goes to Med School or the swishing loveliness of Sing. That's so wrong. Backstabber is my least favourite track.

Yeah, must have been April 30th or something. I remember university was simmering down at that point. Was it just me, or did they play one song for fucking aaaages? It did rock a lot though.

Funny thing was I went wearing a Neurosis hoodie, and someone asked me if they were touring the UK anytime soon. Sad thing is I actually knew, and was all 'well, first they'll be doing the Pacific north-west, then...', like Meatloaf in Wayne's World.

They never did actually tour the UK...
