Devastatingly clever as you're being, I suspect you've missed the point.

Look a dick now, don't you?

That's just fucking staggering.

Lord knows, I think that Uncle Rev Stu Campbell can be a bit of a cunt sometimes, but the level of hatred he seems to incite in some is just bizarre.

Besides which, the article on his blog that caused this hooharr was perfectly valid (from what I gather at least, I didn't read his blog post) - that review on Benchmark Reviews was absolute toss and a blatant 'copy & paste from a press release' job

No more than normal.

I saw the link, knew what it was and you left no remark. I still love you.

I read the whole lot. The "copyright infringement" thing is a bad joke - he merely quoted bits of the review in order to illustrate his case. You know, journalism. The fact that his hosts took his site down without actually checking things is incredible.

Seems a bit harsh. Shirley they could've just removed the article in question rather than the entire account?

Tricky, though. Much easier to get the banhammer than go in and remove certain things from the database. I can't blame them for playing safe, though - they don't know whether the complaints are true or not. As soon as Stu fills in a form saying he's not doing anything wrong they can put the site back up again, because then the complaint is against him, rather than the hosting company.

I spotted the worldofstuart.com thing yesterday after I saw Craig mention a hoo hah about a chair on his blog. Seems (Linda -Ed) went out and picked a fight for no good reason (as usual). However this time he dicked around with the wrong people.

I'd have more sympathy on his sudden stance on unbiased furniture reviewing if he hadn't given a glowing review to a hugely expensive beanbag that he got for free. Usually when a magazine reviews something expensive it has to be sent back afterwards.....

I couldn't see which page they had taken down until I spotted it was his blog not the forum. I was under the impression I would need a £2 a month subscription to read his new content but it seems he's posting stuff every day for free. Go figure......

That's just fucking staggering.

Lord knows, I think that Uncle Rev Stu Campbell can be a bit of a cunt sometimes, but the level of hatred he seems to incite in some is just bizarre.

It really is. There are a fair few people with legitimate grievances against him, but the number of people who either have some utterly absurd grudge, or a reasonable one that they just won't let go is frankly creepy. Some of them have been stalking him for years on end, and these are people who've never even met him.

When I think of what it took for someone to stalk me for not even a year... I don't know how he does it, unless he's secretly been going round the world, charming these people into falling for him, and then refusing to sleep with them, or something.

Which would make for an entertaining tv drama serial, actually. Better than yet a-fucking-nother detective drama.

It really is. There are a fair few people with legitimate grievances against him, but the number of people who either have some utterly absurd disagreement, or a reasonable one that they just won't let go is frankly creepy. Some of them have been stalking him for years on end, and these are people who've never even met him.

A) It's the internet. It's full of nutters with nothing better to do than conduct vendettas. I include in that people who go and pick fights with chair manufacturers.

B) Some of the techniques used by (Linda - Ed) get peoples back up especially when he himself claims to hate such techniques. Deleting or amending posts get his back up but he's proved more than willing to do it himself and he also hates sock puppet accounts but also uses them as well.

C) If you have a 15 year (approx) internet posting history where you continually pick fights for various reasons, you are bound to attract trouble. He'd had massive arguments on two random and completely separate Usenet groups I used to post on for example. Again I was only reminded of this reading that site just now. I did used to read comp.sys.sinclair and I do vaguely remember some kerfuffle over CD's of game images being sold. But we're talking what, 1996? So that's at least 14 years of dicking around on the internet pissing people off?

There are certainly parts of that site that are quite disturbing. I personally have no problem with them picking apart the hypocrisy or showing him up when he's being a dick on forums, but parts of it are quite OTT. Presumably it is a World of Champions job? Personally I would have welcomed a site that just exposed every time he's a fuckwit on a forum in order to help the next batch of people he picks on.

Well it's clear that he pisses people off, and yeah, I can see why. Not going to go into that, really not worth it. But there's mouthing off about someone who's annoyed you online, and then there's actively stalking them for years on end for no other reason than to get a pat on the back from the equally obsessed lunatics in your circle. It's creepy as hell.

I'm not 100% sure. From memory it's a forum like this place but about 2000% more inbred and they really hate (Linda - Ed) for some reason. Presumably he was a member at one stage.

As far as I can tell, world of champions is some old forum that was either formed by, or fed by people who were banned from campbell's forum. They started obsessively stalking him at least three or four years ago, possibly sooner (I'd never heard of them until they tried to sneak back onto his forum en masse to wave their dicks around).

It's probably got other stuff on as well, and sheer mathematical chance suggests there are bound to be some alright people on there, but suffering the chronic cuntitude of some of its denizens really doesn't seem to be worth it.

Cheers. When i saw WOC mentioned, i thought it was a derogatory nickname for this place, although i didn't think anyone here was mental enough to set up that blog.

Cheers. When i saw WOC mentioned, i thought it was a derogatory nickname for this place, although i didn't think anyone here was mental enough to set up that blog.

I'd rule out any current members certainly.

Did I mention I have a new desk arriving on Wednesday? It's one of those ones that goes in a corner.

I was briefly internet-stalked by a nutter at uni called 'The Jazzer'. It started with ordinary email correspondence and gradually got weirder as the Jazzer started posting pictures of my face (I'm not sure where he got the photo alarmingly, this was in the days pre-Facebook) over the head of an old man bobbing about on a rubber ring. As I expressed rum bemusement at his actions and asked him to stop emailing me freakish things, he sent me an excellent stick figure drawing of two stick figures, one with my head, atop a tower-block. I'm shooting the stick figure with a crude arrow pointing at it, the dot-bullets making a cartoony splash of blood as the Jazzer waves his stick arms on the verge of falling backwards off the building. I shout out, "HA HA HA!" and the Jazzer shouts, "ARGH!"

In big scrawled letters above the words: "THE JAZZER BETRAYED!?!!?!"

I never heard from him again. I have my suspicions as to who it was.

Wish I still had that picture. The entire thing was secretly ace.

But anyway, what the fuck is wrong with that WoC site? I mean, I cannot for the life of me conceive why anyone would give a shit. In Norfolk there's a restaurant that hates the (excellent) food critic Jonathan Meades so much that they actually have a Hate-Shrine directed at him in the restaurant itself. That makes some sense, as Meades gave them a spectacularly bad review. But... but... in this computer-game forum bickering world we're in, I can't see how anybody could conceivably get so worked up as to stalk a largely unknown freelance journalist and dedicate so much time to bad-mouthing him. The amount of stalkery reports of him in shopping queues, the actively disturbing ranting spiel about his physical features and sweet eating... it's all tremendously creepy.

I had no idea that site existed until now, and my eyebrows are still displaced in alarm and amazement at it all.

I theorise that once you reach a certain degree of lunatic obsessive stalkerdom, your drawing just naturally comes out like that.

There's a scientific study right there. If they could dig out the Mein Kampf manuscript there'd probably be smiley hook-nosed stick-Jews bopping about in the margins and a Hitler face crying.

Anyway. That's enough about that weirdness.

I'm off to enjoy a nice curry with a beer or two at a friends. We're going to be watching Twelve Angry Men which is awesomeness, and which she has never seen. Also, anyone ever heard the album Marry Me by St Vincent? It's awesome.

Nothing. I hung around in there a bit, and they're all okay people.
Thinking that they're all drooling, hate-filled nutters is the same as thinking everyone here talks endlessly about their personal problems.

Yep, that. Bear in mind that all anyone here would have seen of WoC folks is them when they were on Stu's forum.
