I am so chuffed with having the Xbox working again, as it's been a week or two since I could really play it. This is quite sad.

What's worse is that I'm almost even more chuffed by the Coffey-tastic green glow coming from the back of the Xbox now.

Can you get custom 360 cases?

It'd be fairly easy to lathe out.

Post subject:  Re: Bits and Bobs 19

Well, I have a lathe and I wouldn't bother trying. It wouldn't be that easy, you'd still want to end drill it and it's still hardened.

Far easier to buy the right bits :D

Someone from the place I volunteer called from Spain, where she is currently stuck on holiday with her husband because of the ash 'crisis'. Of all the times for your husband to find you you have been having an affair by checking your text messages and finding some rather fruity ones from his own best friend, it happening whilst you are on holiday in Spain with no way of returning home in the near future would be the least popular, I'd presume

Wow! Just been in a really awesome bookshop that stocks all manner of books from pre-history to medieval times! The Roman section alone was huge. And it's two minutes from my office, I've walked past it everyday for years, and nobody bothered to tell me about it. Going to be hard not to spend a fortune in there.

I have when it is raining but I'm not keen on any run that barely starts to warm the oil frankly. In fact in the past I've driven the 3 miles to the village post office just because at least the car will have warmed up.

The whole "short journeys are bad for cars" thing is pretty much a myth with some truth thrown in.
Yes, engines (and gearboxes) lubricate best at running temperature, but most modern oils are so insanely thin that it's a non-issue. Also in some cases you can get condensation in the exhaust that doesn't boil off because it never gets hot, therefore increasing corrosion.
If you ran frequent (and I mean five times a day) short journeys of only a few hundred meters and didn't service the car at all then you might theoretically start to see problems. But keeping a car well-serviced is far, far more important than not driving it short distances.
Also, a two-mile round trip should be plenty enough to warm the car up - it might not be enough to register on your temperature gauge but you won't want to be holding onto the radiator afterwards.

To be fair if you were concerned about the engine lasting forever you should have got the non-mental-turbo version :p

Guy on one of the VW forums let his wife use his car (same as mine) for the school run for 2 weeks. When he got it back it was running like a dog. Got a mechanic friend to look at it who advised him to take it down the dual carriageway and cane it. Sure enough black smoke shot out the back and the car was as good as new.

Yeah it'll be fine, but its sunny and I have a bike so screw it.

He's actually made it to Calais now.

2462+km and 69 hours after setting off in his cheapo car that he called 'Olive'.

He had a few issues, as updated by his Facebook page, such as:

"Person's Name is concerned about Olive. The only way I could stop her engine yesterday was to turn her lights off!"

I did like his most recent one, which says:

"Hurrah! Calais! I've never been so pleased to see this sh**hole before in my life!"

:)

I think the car only fit in him, his fiancee, their luggage and 346 bottles of Leffe.
