Sure. Travel systems employ sophisticated[1] demand-based pricing models that put the price up when popularity rises. There you go 
Put it this way: if you buy a ticket in advance, then the price goes up, do you call the ferry company and offer to pay the difference? If I'm on the boat next to you and I paid twice what you did, do you feel bad, or do you feel smug you got a bargain?

From what I'm reading in the press, it's mostly been fairer than you might assume. For example, the BBC earlier pointed out that Eurostar has laid on as many trains as it can and is charging £89 for a Paris-London single; that's less than it usually costs at this time of year for that ticket when bought on day of travel.[1] often so sophisticated they go wrong and start marking stuff down or just giving random prices no-one understands.
