It was, but thanks anyway. :)

Same here. I think my Winamp is on its default settings which I believe is as above. I just rip a disc and let it worry about where it goes.

Currently mine is <artist>/<year> - <album>/<tracknum>_<trackname>
How do you deal with multi-disc albums?
I used to have separate Disc 1, Disc 2, etc, folders within the album folder, but I'm trying to use mp3Tag to tidy up all my tags and so I could do with some sort of consistency across all my music.

Multi disc? I bung them in the same directory and painstakingly renumber the second disc's tracks.

/Music/{First letter of Artist name}/{Artist Name}/{Album Name}/{Some variation on <track number> - <song title>}

As long as I can find the right folder, I generally don't care too much about the filename itself, as long as it's somewhat close to being in a decent format.

Vaguely related... most of the time I just stick all my music files on random in Winamp, but I don't suppose there's a way (either in Winamp or anything else) that can be set to skip tracks over a certain length? Just so that I don't have to keep skipping past episodes of ISIHAC and QI (or 'In-a-gadda-da-vida' for that matter). I could probably do it through a playlist but I imagine I'd have to remember to add new tracks to that playlist?

Select all your tracks, order them in run time, deselect the ones over X amount in duration, save the rest as a playlist?

I sent back the card yesterday morning. Now I had heard about BFG's legendary customer service before and my friend actually has experienced it first hand.

But God Damn.

I use the "disc number" fields in iTunes for that, but I'm not sure what that does on the filesystem.

That seems a bit excessive though, there's a discnumber field, so I want tracks 1-10 and 1-12, not 1-22 (or whatever).
Unless there's a better way to tag things, then I think I'm probably looking at <discnumber>-<tracknumber>_<trackname>, but that means renaming all my existing files (which probably isn't too tricky, I've just not really looked into it).

Yep. Just iTunes it like we reasonably people. Think it makes them go '1-01...', but could be making that up.

I'm too scared of change to just let iTunes deal with it.
That is how I've ended up naming my files though.
Now, is there a good way to set the maxtrack and maxdisc tags (or whatever they happen to be called)?
Maybe I should go back to using Foobar, that was fantastically complicated. ?:|

Often, a starling will remove and egg from another starling's nest and lay one of their own in there. I think this is the result of this.

Cuckoo's is their eggs in a different species's nest, eggs are patterned to look the same as the host species. Starlings is same species.

I know my birds, me.

So the female starling is basically saying "I'm a feckless and crap mum, someone else better raise my kids".

Also, how does she know the other starling is any good? And that her egg won't get tossed out by a third starling hoping to rely on the parenting skills of the supposed supermum?

They haven't thought this shit out.

Not true. it makes a lot of sense.

It's "not putting all your eggs in one basket", almost.

Starlings tend to lay 6 to 8 eggs, so moving one from their nest to another increases the chance of the genes surviving through to the next generation. More resources can be put towards the remaining 5-7 eggs in nest, increasing survival chances and if the original nest gets raided then there will be one chick left somewhere else. Teh cahnces of having a rogue egg in her nest won't alter it too much in the grand game, either.

That bonus multiplier of resources could make the difference, so, in theory it's a good strategy, albeit with them being on the endangered list, maybe not as successful as it once was, although I suspect this is mainly due to destruction of habitats.

I decided last night that rather than go and practice my snowboarding skill last night that I would instead eat curry and watch the Prime Ministerial debates on the telly.

This morning I feel short changed.

I can always go at the weekend I suppose, but then the slope will be roughly 50 million twelvety times busier, meaning my utter lack of ability may cause issues.

I have my kendo ikkyu grading tomorrow. That's brown belt, if kendo had belts, which it doesn't. I'm quietly cacking myself, but hopefully by this time tomorrow I'll have a little bit of paper telling me how good I am at kendo. Woo!

I wouldn't bother when it's busy. You pay more, get less enjoyment and time, and the quality of the snow is likely worse. Avoid.

Good luck with that Squirt. Always fancied trying that myself.

I can always go at the weekend I suppose, but then the slope will be roughly 50 million twelvety times busier, meaning my utter lack of ability may cause issues.

I wouldn't bother when it's busy. You pay more, get less enjoyment and time, and the quality of the snow is likely worse. Avoid.

A small upshot of my car troubles is that I'll have to work from home on Monday whilst my car is being looked at. The indoor snow slope is literally a 5 minute walk from my house, so I'll definitely be up there on Monday night after work. I might even sneak off at lunch time for a bit.

When I went there on Tuesday night, there were times when I was the only person on the slope. Certainly helped for the occasions when I went down on my arse or knees, rather than the board.
