No. I intended my post to mean that the 3DS becomes uncomfortable to hold after extended periods of time. You get that awful claw feeling. OTOH, the old Nintendo 64 controller was ergonomic and nice.

I loved the N64 controller.

I can see how the 3ds could be awkward if you use the 'hold' setting for whatever they are calling z-targeting now. I used 'switch' back in on the 64 version.

He points out the problem with the controls, I actually agree with this (ocarina of time is my favourite game of all time)

Gadget lust alone isn't enough to convince me to want one of these. And I don't think any amazing gaming experiences will be forthcoming either. Fucking Zelda. Again.

I've just found my friend code... would anyone like to be my friend?

It's 0903-2892-8265.

Snappy, don't you think?

Wither 3DS? If rumours are to be believed.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011- ... aul-report
Quote:
Nintendo is preparing both an external second circle pad add-on for the 3DS, as well as an entirely new model which "radically tones down" the system's 3D capabilities, according to insider sources.

French site 01Net has published the first in a four part report detailing how the platform holder is currently in turmoil over the direction to take its new handheld following disappointing launch sales.

While some of its claims seem rather out-there, the site has pedigree - it correctly broke news of Wii U and PlayStation Vita specs before both machines' respective announcements earlier this year.

According to its source, who it describes as "one of the very few Nintendo employees to dare break the code of silence", the company is currently working on a detachable second circle pad for the handheld.

Apparently the decision not to include two analogue sticks in the initial system build is a source of great regret at Nintendo HQ and was a result of the production process being rushed to ensure the system launched before the PlayStation Vita.

Nintendo's engineers are reportedly spending "sleepless nights" fine-tuning the add-on, which will sell for "about $10".

The source added that the platform holder has asked "a select group of developers" to work on titles for the peripheral, though third parties are growing increasingly disgruntled at Nintendo's approach.

As well as the dual analogue attachment, the insider also claimed that Nintendo is preparing a second iteration of the console for release in 2012.

The new version will "radically tone down" the system's 3D features, possibly rebranding the machine entirely. It was suggested that the recent price cut was planned partly as a means to get rid of stocks of the launch 3DS, clearing the way for a successor.

Holy Shizzle that's fugly (whether legit or not, I can't tell).

Even worse than that hideous black carry case (that could be worn around the neck with the included strap, or around the waist with a belt loop) that flapped open so I could play on the move yet still have my original Gameboy protected. And that was some third party shit I bought from some dodgy shop.

Semi-relatedly, I came across my DSLite in a drawer the other day and turned it on. The battery holds it's charge for a long time, eh? I might finally get round to playing the 2nd Phoenix Wright game properly....

I started it years ago (2006 I think), probably too soon after finishing the first one and stopped playing because I was bored by the scene examination in the second case, and just couldn't really be bothered. I just re-finished the first case last night.

Of course, it helps that at the moment we don't currently have any TV other than episodes on the media centre, otherwise I might not have even bothered opening the DS up.

I only open the DS up on Christmas Day to play and complete the Professor Layton game I ask for each year. Then it goes back in the drawer.

I did see a "sexy" photograph of Ken Barlow online a few months ago. Fortunately, I haven't looked for it, so this will do in its place.

Looks like the silly joystick add-on is official. About £12. I suppose it'll help with some games though.

Spent about 30 mins in the company of Super Mario 3D Land this morning thanks to a most unexpected and very welcome gift from Lady Z - it's great fun! And a little bit retro in an odd sort of way - despite looking similar to the more recent 3D Marios, it actually seems to take most of it's inspiration from Mario 3. Anyway, what I played of it was great.

Also, just finished the DS game Aliens Infestation, which is a fantastic little Metroid-style 2D platformer/shooter, clearly meant to accompany the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines. I loved it, well worth getting.

I have to say, I still really like the 3DS. Only the shoddy battery life lets it down in my book. I've started to develop a little habit of taking it around with me in sleep mode whenever I'm going anywhere there'll be a lot of people to see how many Street Passes I get (best ever being a film and memorabilia thing I went to in London in the summer, where I got over 30 hits).

Yeah, Mario 3D is the shit. It's not just Mario 3, it's all the old skool marios (although mostly 3 for sure).

It's obviously more nu-Mario than old mario, but there's stuff like the flags at the end of levels from Mario 1, level structure (Levels have names like 1-3 and 3-5) also from Mario 1, and the original sprites from Mario 1 appear in the game too. There's the return of the poison mushroom from The Lost Levels, and a few of the levels are very stylistically reminiscent of levels from Mario World too. Plus loads of sounds have been reused/repurposed from various mario games.

I'd say it mostly plays like a modern mario game, along the lines of the galaxy games, with much smaller, tighter levels, but it's very obviously also a love letter to the older mario games too.

Very good game, although I found it to be pretty damn easy right until maybe half way through the second to last chapter, where the challenge jumps up a notch.

I 100%'d it, and I am going to trade it in for more than I paid for it today.

Obviously what we need is 3D Super Paper Mario.

Never has a game so needed to be 3D.
