Also Link is the playable character and Zelda is the princess. Not the other way around!

My first LoZ game was Link's Awakening on the Game Boy. Was also the first game I played that was near enough to being a JRPG (although it isn't one). Loved it immediately, how such an absorbing adventure could be crafted with just 4 shades of grey, with so many memorable characters and cleverly devised dungeons. Great story too. Played A Link to the Past not long after on the Super NES and the light world/dark world concept just astounded me.

Have never got on with the NES LoZs, and Skyward Sword I gave up on as it had so much repetitive backtracking, and the motion control were too frustrating to endure.

Just had a thought, Nintendo will have to alter Majora's Mask for the 3DS to make it more accessible to players, as you need to play for at least an hour to reach the first save point(!), which won't be a good idea on a handheld system with a not-exactly-great battery life. The time travel mechanism needs a while for you to get your head around too, along with the all copious mental note-taking you need to do along the way.

I got a New 3DS and it is real nice. The 3D effect even works well enough for me to want to regularly use it.

Sadly they're really shonkily made and don't look great at all. Otherwise I'd getting some myself.

My sister is getting a 3DS for my niece for Christmas as an upgrade from her battered DS and I'm looking into games for her. If I was buying for myself this would be easy but I've no idea what the general gaming capabilities of an 11 year old child are so am struggling a bit. I keep thinking that even the staples like Mario Kart and Kirby might be a bit challenging for her, but perhaps I'm doing her a disservice there? I dunno, anyone got any recommendations? One of her great loves in life is dinosaurs if that's any use. I've got a horrible feeling I'm going to end up being made to buy her this even though it's fucking bawsacks.

I wondered about Animal Crossing; I've never played any of the series (and neither has she) and I was suspicious it might be hard for her to grasp what was going on? From all the chat I heard about it there seemed to be quite a lot of complexity and stuff that needed figuring out what to do with.

Oh god, no. Anyone 4-5 years up can grasp animal crossing. And that doesn't mean it's for young kids, it's just universally amazing.

Wrong.

If anything she's too old. As with anything, you get better with experience, you don't suddenly become good just because you're older. (And also when young, you don't tend to not like stuff because you're not good at it anyway. Well, unless certain discouragements are offered.)

My 7 year old ('almost 8' he would say) enjoys mostly mario kart 3ds & mario tennis. Everything in the mario line is ok (although luigi mansion is in english and has lots of text).

Not really - no working flashcards and there has only recently been the announcement of homebrew and stuff for it working correctly *but* it relies on an exploit in an old game that used to be in the bargain bins for about 50p but is now going for crazy money "cubic ninja"

My 11 year old son has a 3ds and is fine with pretty much any game (he also plays on the Wii U and Xbox (360 and One). I don't think there will be many games on the 3DS that an 11 year old won't be able to play because they are too hard...

I'm thinking of upgrading my 3DS to the new 3DS. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have the standard version as I want to keep it mobile and I'm not bothered about the XL version.

I can probably find this out, but does anyone know I it comes with an SD card?

Also, will any DS charger work with it? I will need one to transfer my stuff over so will an original DS charger work with it?

Bought olliolli... Free wiiU version.. Quite nice one more go feeling... Don't like the garish colours on the 3ds make it difficult to spot whats going on.. And sometimes the controls don't respond too wel.. Still worth 5 quid...

You mean the New 3DS with the nubbin, or the old 3DS with a Circle Pro adaptor? Pretty sure none of them require the latter, but Monster Hunter 4 needs the former.

I think you may be thinking of Xenoblade Chronicles. Monster hunter 4 should work with a regular 3DS, although some say it's nearly unplayable without the Circle Pad Pro.

I'm asking for my little brother.

He's undecided whether to buy DS or WiiU.

If buying a DS he wants to get a dual analogue one as he's worried the other models will become obsolete in terms of future games if dual analogue control becomes the norm.

But they are apparently close to £200, for which he figures he could get a WiiU.

He has no 3DS at present,many of course there is the future prospect of Nintendo not continuing to concentrate on development of the WiiU.

I don't know the details of Monster Hunter 4, just that the Circle Pad Pro isn't required as such, but comes very recommended as the game was designed for it, and without you have to control the camera using a digital direction pad on the touchscreen, which sounds awful. The Circle Pad Pro is very cheap, though.

The real problem is the increased power of the New 3DS, which is the real reason games like Xenoblade Chronicles are not backwards compatible. Whether developers or Nintendo itself will abandon the old 3DS is anyone's guess at the moment. I haven't heard of any other games requiring the New 3DS, but I have not been paying much attention either.

As an aside, the 3D apparently works a lot better on the New one due to some sort of head tracking voodoo.

The Wii U is a whole different kettle of problems. It is now rumored that Nintendo will abandon it in favor of mobile games, maybe as early as next year.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that most people never buy add-ons, so there are probably very few people out there with the Circle Pad Pro. Which means that any developer deciding to require a dual-analogue set up might as well make it exclusively for the New 3DS and take advantage of the extra oomph. So the Circle Pad Pro should probably be ignored when deciding which console to get.

Does anyone have any notion/remembrance of a game for DS (I think it was DS rather than 3DS), where you basically had to program your own micro games? It may have had something to do with Wario, or I may have completely made that up. It basically presented you with simple game mechanics then you had to build the playable micro game out of the set commands and actions.

I'm sure I didn't just dream this, but it seems such a fuzzy memory that there is a small chance I may have.
