Cheers. One more quick question if I may - I'm just reading you can't buy games/apps using Microsoft Points, is that right? Only with a debit or credit card? Bit annoyed at that to be honest, as I took my debit card off my account when that hacking stuff all blew up last year or so around the Fifa thing.

I mean it won't stop me getting the phone, obviously, but still it's annoying.

That's right, you can't use Microsoft points. Whenever I buy apps, they're always charged directly to my phone bill. Not sure if this helps at all?

Was doing some random Googling last night, and it seems that, officially, you can only use a credit card as a form of payment for the games/apps, or bill it to your mobile phone account. I don't dabble in credit cards so then I started to have second thoughts, then some more random Googling found that plenty of people do use their debit cards and this appears to work (certainly, I always used to have my d/c attached to my Xbox account and this worked fine).

Anyway... I still really want the phone, so will just sort things when it gets here.

I'm sure you know this already, but it is worth repeating. Using a debit card for online transactions is foolish, as if you get hit for fraud, it's your money that goes missing. If you use a credit card, it is the credit card companies money that goes missing, which makes a huge difference in hassle and stress to you personally when getting it sorted out.

I have credit cards, but pay them off in full every month, so no worries about creeping debt.

I don't have a credit card but I'm probably going to get one soon. I've never really had a problem with buying stuff online but you never know. As for my phone, I only really buy apps for 79pish and since they come off my phone bill, there's not really much of a problem.

But yes.. credit card. Definitely.

Yeah, obviously c/cards are the safe choice as you both say, but I don't own one and don't want to go down that route.

I was naively initially assuming I could just use the points as it's all much the same as the Xbox account, but obviously there are some differences.

From what I've been reading, lots of people have complained about not being able to use points, so who knows if Microsoft will ever change their mind on this.

I think that was just a rumour and I haven't heard anything about it since it was first reported.

As for buying apps, I wouldn't worry too much. We're not talking big money here and I've never had a problem using my phone bill to pay for them.

I think I read an article on EuroGamer a couple of months back, which said Microsoft were now going to keep the points.

I know a lot of people don't like them for various reasons, but I think they're perfect if you don't want the risk of attaching any form of payment card to your Xbox account.

Last week, we switched all the company phones over to new Windows 8 phones (approximately 60 HTC 8S and 25 HTC 8X). They're quite nice phones although not without their problems. We've had two replaced already (random reboots) and mine's crashed a couple of times.

I'm not sure I'd like a Windows phone for personal use, but for our consultants, they seem ideal so far in terms of keeping things simple for them, particularly with emails, calendar stuff and internet connection sharing.

It's been fun trying to educate the older folk though who have gone from ancient Nokias straight to one of the latest touchscreen phones. :)

I has done buyed a Windows phone (well to be fair it was a gift). I nearly got one just before Christmas but for various reasons didn't go ahead.

Anyway, here I now am, the proud owner of a Nokia Lumia 620, and it's awesome and I :luv: it.

I done got one too and I :luv: it as well now iv got used to it. Lumia 820. Thing I notice most over iPhone is how fast it is zoooom! Bit concerned at lack of apps though, bank of scotland doesn't cater for it >:|

Yeah, true on the apps I guess - I don't suppose it'll ever exactly catch up with Apple in this regard, still taken as a whole, they're excellent phones and a pleasure to use.

Elky is right in that there aren't many apps available but there's official versions or equivalents of all the big/useful stuff.

The phones lovely OS and the Xbox integration more than makes up for it for me though.

in what way do you make use of the xbox integration? I tried using it as a remote for a while but then every time i want to press a button its unlock, wait for resume, wait for connect to box and thats way too long. after that I havent really bothered.

I like earning and looking at achievements on my phone. I send messages via Live with it and use Smartglass with IE on the Xbox.

I also never feel alone when my Avatar is only a click away....

Yep, pretty much the same for me. It's just a cool bonus to be able to earn a few extra Cheevos etc, but the main draw for me is that it's an ace phone.

I have a Lumia 1020 and it's lovely! More on that later but for now, I'm trying to change the email address associated with my phone and Xbox from a hotmail account to an Outlook account.

This is hard...

First off, I can change my email address online but only for contact purposes. It doesn't affect the email address I sign in with. I've just read someone say online that I can change it on my Xbox, which I can... but there's a problem.

I have £24 on my Xbox marketplace account which will not be transferred and will be lost. I thought that I'd try and spend the money so I don't lose anything. I've bought a couple of things and then came to having £9.55 on my account. I've tried to buy Castle of Illusion which is £9.99 but it won't let me put my £9.55 towards this... I have to either pay on my card, or buy something cheaper to use up the money.

And after all this, there's no guarantee that my email address which actually switch over! Gnnnnngh....

Aye. Loving the 1020.

Need to dial down the touch sensitivity though and cant remember where the setting is. One of the selling points is you can use it wearing gloves. This also means your thigh can operate it in shorts.

Vine and Instagram are now available for Windows Phone. It's fair to say that it's got a long way to go with apps compared to IOS and Android, but it's getting there. Both apps work very well and I'm sure will prove to be very popular.

That's what I said when I got a WP7 phone in 2010. I'd expect it to have come a lot further in three years, to be honest. They really haven't managed to catch up at all.

I'm convinced the last lumia 800 updates fucked the battery accounting, on thursday it turned off so as I was hammered and making my way home I did a battery drop then kept the screen active. It lasted a further hour-Thursday like that, then didn't actually turn itself off again til 11am friday. The diagnostics were reporting capacity as under 800mAh instead of 1300. I've been doing full cycles since and its back up to 1100ish but still not lasting anywhere near long enough.

I'm excited and in a way, it's good that Google aren't all over the Windows Phone as it gives MS a bit of a head start with Cortana with no competition. I understand that Google Voice (I think that's what it's called) is directly competing with Siri on IOS?

Either way... I hope Cortana and I get along.
