Not having to install stuff on my PC just to put music on it (unsure what WP7 will be doing with this, but I think it using Zune means it will require the Zune PC software).
Being able to use whatever search engine I want (fairly sure MS is forcing you to use bing for everything).
Being able to customise any element of the OS I want to, like replacing the keyboard, or adding stuff to the context sensitive menus.
Lovely emulators.

Also, subsonic is a killer app for me now, and unless MS are happy with people using alternatives to Zune on the WP7, I don't think there will be a subsonic app on the WP7.

I like a lot about what I've seen of WP7, and the launch devices look quite nice, but I think android is better suited to my tastes right now.

"A" Zune allows you to use it as a USB drive, and you can throw new music on it that way.
You have to manually tell the Zune to refresh the music database when you're done, though.

I think I would like a Zune... but I don't know why.

They're very good, and were very good three years ago (or whenever they came out).

I like the sounds of the Xbox integration and according to a friend who works for Orange, the Microsoft rep who comes into his store is a very pretty lady so that's good enough for me!

I shrugged at the Facebook issue that Rich posted earlier, as I've deleted my account. What I hadn't planned for was for it to add all my MSN Messenger contacts into my contact list. I haven't used it in about three years.

This could be fun.

To be fair, I'd say they were both v1.0-type problems that I could see being resolved in future versions of the OS, although that's less forgivable when a company is entering a market three years late. The Anandtech review is notably more positive, bordering on gushing (and I'd rate Anandtech's reviewers over Engadget's).

Impressed so far, despite a few niggles. Will post something more tomorrow when I've got some time and had more of a play.

While what you say is true, both those Engadget points are pretty tough to forgive.

The Xbox Live integration is probably the best part of the phone, in all honesty. The contacts and web browser are good as well. There are some things that are fucking shit, though.

But just think! You're one of the first people with one! Imagine all the achievements you'll have first, the head start you've got! That I could grind more hours playing a 360 game to earn a few points than you will playing Flight Control for 20 minutes!

I've heard the touchscreens are a bit unresponsive.

The screen is actually really nice (like, iPhone 4 nice). It's really crisp and quite responsive. It's the stupid search button that I accidentally catch every now again giving me unexpected BING that I don't like.

On the brightside, you can BOOK IT.

So, I had a rant about O2 on Twitter a few days ago, mentioning @o2 in it. Their social media team saw it and got someone from Customer Relations to ring me yesterday.

It turns out that the store were wrong not to exchange it for me, as policy has now changed to integrate the store and online together. He's taken the details of the store and is going to contact the area manager about it.

It gets better, though. He then asked me which address I was asked to send the phone back for repair, so I told him. He then started the next sentence with 'now, this is really embarrassing, but..." It turns out that the returns address I had been given was for UNWANTED RETURNS, so it was never going to come back to me.

Anyway, after profuse apologies, he's ordered me a new HD7 and will have it at my work address for no later than Wednesday. What a palaver.

Hey myp, genuine question - why did you get one of these anyway? Did you not want an iPhone 4? I ask because it's a faster, better version of the best phone I've ever had.

bloody hell that's terrible! I hope you told them you'll be expecting your bill to be credited for the line rental for this month? I used to work for them and they will do that with little to no pressure from the customer.

That's pretty rubbish service the first time around, but it makes you wonder what would have happened had you not moaned on Twitter.

It's PAYG, so not really possible. I did think of asking for a partial refund, but I'm just relieved they haven't lost it. Says a lot about my expectations of what customer service should be, eh?

I've had an iPhone since the original and fancied a change. The smartphone market has changed drastically in the last few years and I want to try something else so that when I inevitably buy the iPhone 5, I'll appreciate it even more.

Also: cheevs on the move, natch.
