I should probably read that. Fry's dorkitude and fanboyism may be the one power in the world which can put me off buying one now.

But it will make me grumpy.

Certainly. He is also a proper corporate whore, though.

Surely the lack of flash isn't going to be that big a deal in a couple of years with the move to html5. And a closed system never did consoles any harm.

Did the iPod touch really take off as device? From person experience people generally buy the nanos.

I'm not convinced it will become mass market.

Assisted GPS.

That is, proper GPS but with the additional benefit of mast triangulation etc. when a GPS fix is unavailable. Same as on the iPhone 3G(S)

Well, the first paragraph of Mr Frys article sums it up well enough: My religion is apple, and I wish to suck it's warm milky cock.

FFS, one of the reasons he lists for it being a success is "It's made by apple"
Coming next, just for people like him: the iToilet.

I don't think that's quite fair. He doesn't just say "because it's made by Apple" he goes on to explain that because it is made by Apple that all the parts are engineered to work together and I agree that this does cause their products to have a cohesiveness that others often lack.

Absolutely. The back panel definitely show a cohesion to the front panel that isn't there with devices from other manufacturers.

Would switching the picture to monochrome or B&W extend its battery life? Is there an app for that?

Also, have all the bits and bobs people have already bought and/or downloaded to their iPods, iPhones and iTunes be neatly copied over or otherwise made accessible on the iPad?

I have done reading now.
I will not be getting one, and that makes me sad. I've wanted a nice tablet computer, and the timing was good for my new commute to work. This isn't it, though - it doesn't provide much more than that smart phone in my pocket.
Netbook for me, I think.

Fucking sick of Stephen Fry. I wish he'd fuck off with his "ghastly" sell-out cunt attitude doing voiceovers for Direct Line and wanking over Apple products in his inimitable "I'm ever so modest, gosh!" style. The fucking cunt.

"OH I HONESTLY WASN'T EXPECTING TO WIN THE TV PRIZE. I'M SO OVERWHELMED, CRIVENS! I FEEL SIMPLY GHASTLY! GOOD HEAVENS!"

Also, isn't he on self-inflicted complete lockdown to write his autobiography? (Which, by the way, is a huge marketing trick in itself - "Oh, where's Fry? He's not tweeting anymore!" "Good heavens man, haven't you heard? He's writing about his ghastly life story!" "Aha! I'll be sure to pick that up when he's finished!")

Obviously not too locked-down to take some money off Apple and spray creamy cum all over the iPad.

Haha, I thought that - I think someone had told him.
Compare it to Clarkson a few years back who a) didn't have a clue, b) didn't understand why he'd won, and c) spent most of his time on stage talking about how well Hamilton had done that year :)

Also, having now read the article, PRECISELY WHAT USE IS HIS OPINION? It offers absolutely no objectivity whatsoever. I mean, Jesus Christ, at least attempt to see the other side of the coin for a second. He's written off naysayers before the thing has even been released based entirely on the performance of the iPhone, which I think we can all agree is a different kettle of fish. Sure, the iPad might take off and do well, but if it doesn't, that little spunk-fest is going to make Mr Fry look very fucking silly.

Quote:
There are many issues you could have with the iPad. No multitasking, still no Flash. No camera, no GPS. They all fall away the minute you use it. I cannot emphasise enough this point: “Hold your judgment until you’ve spent five minutes with it”.

Ah right, all of the problems and shortcomings are going to wash away AS SOON AS YOU GET YOUR HANDS ON ITS SHINY LOVELINESS.

:this: especially if they're running Android. Assuming some cunt gets their arse into gear and releases Kindle for Android or an ePub reader that supports the evil DRM or something.

I don't think there is any question of S Fry 'selling out'. He is an actor and will act for money.

I'm pretty certain it wouldn't. I believe that it takes as much energy for a flat screen display to produce black as it does any other colour.

Well, LCDs are backlit, right? Using fluorescents or LEDs. All you can do is dim the backlight, colour makes no odds.
