iOS devices used to take down our old work network if they got onto the wifi. They were making thousands of requests all the time. Hang on, I'll look it up.

Yeah, not done anything like that it's really bad, though. I spent an hour on the phone to EE this morning and we tried turning off the wifi on the router and the speeds were fine. So I went through adding devices one at a time until I got to the iPad and then everything just tanked again. Goes from 15 down and 2 up to 5 down and 0.2 up. I can't see that the iPad should be backing anything up or updating anything right now and in any case it doesn't seem like a simple case of it just using too much bandwidth, with the iPad on even things like ping times to the DNS servers are ridiculous, like one or two seconds. It's like it's just causing the router to really misbehave, weirdness.

Fuck me, this is next to impossible to Google for. I found information about it before, though.

The best I've come up with by searching for "ipad kills wifi network" hints that it might be related to using WPA on the router or that changing the SSID so it creates a new connection might help. :S

Tried all that crap, nothing made any difference.

Hmm. What to try next? Do a reset on the iPad?

Well flattening the iPad seems to have done the trick. Can only assume it was some app or other misbehaving.

I just recently bought a new router from PC World (!) out of necessity. It's an Asus DSL-N55U and I quite like it. Even though it's an ADSL router by trade, it works fine as a cable router. It's much better than the TP Link thing I was soldiering on with.

Just saying.

Ipads....

I think that was the pitch, internally! I haven't touched one so have no idea how successful it is. It ain't cheap though.

Does your home router have 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ bands?

If so maybe set a 5GHZ network up and hook the Apple device to that?

I have all mine at home on 5GHZ as its faster at moving files from my NAS that 2.4

Also could rebuild the device and see if that helps?

Oh, do you mean Angry Birds? My iPad 1 runs that.

If you're looking for cheap though, most cheapo Android tablets will run it too.

No, sorry, the other one. I put angry bears but tried to delete it and write Alphabears. I think it's quite a new game is all and she's struggling to see the letters on the bigger boards.

You need an iPad 2 for Alphabears. The iOS version required is on the left of the iTunes page - the original iPad is on v5.1, all the others are on the latest version.

Anyone fancy an iPad Air 2 64GB in Space Grey? Happy to accept £350 for it inc postage (they're going for about £400 on eBay and the like).

We ended up trading them in with a supplier which surprised me as they don't normally do this against a stock order for Airs for 2016

Got some Pro's in at work just before Xmas, they were a nightmare to order (from distrusters as a pose to Apple Store)

Really like the one I'm playing with, great for reading comic's, to be honest that's all I do with it!

My h-index value disagrees. Anyway, I'm his enforcer. He sets them up, and I knock them down. It's sort of like a grammatical version of the Bushwhackers.

Just pulled the trigger on a Space Grey iPad Pro 128GB WiFi and Apple Pencil. Bought a 3rd party smart case as maddeningly they only have an official smart cover and separate case, and only in grey. Also both the official smart keyboard and the Logitech ones seem to be flawed and expensive, so I've gone for the Magic Keyboard instead.

My dad is having my MacBook Pro now that I have a gaming PC, so I'll need a laptop replacement. I thought about the new MacBook but I think I'll use the iPad Pro more, and it also means a larger screen for the comics I read. The 10" screen of the regular-sized iPad is only just comfortable enough for me to read without zooming in.

So basically beforehand I had an iPad Air 2 and a MBP for writing/gaming. This will be a laptop replacement/tablet combined, leaving my gaming PC for, uhh, games.

Fair enough. Though I'm surprised to hear a 10 inch screen isn't big enough for comics for you, I never had an issue with the 8.9 incher on my Nexus 9 and the 10 inch screen of the Pixel C I'm finding plenty big enough.

That's the thing, I won't need it often. So a new MacBook would probably be overkill and not get used all that much. However I really want to get back into drawing and also with the bigger screen for comics etc it seemed like a good fit.

And if worst comes to worst I have a PC if I need it.

I've got a pro with the pencil. Download procreate as soon as you get it. As an art package it's fucking astonishing they're only charging £4.49 for it. It is stunning, it's like having a full artists studio you can take anywhere with you.

Also, if you like writing, get Drafts and Liquidtext

You can get them off the net for under £20. I've seen them advertised loads of times.
