Had an email this morning (5AM, apparently) saying the iPad 2 was available. Went through my order, card declined. But it's okay, as fifteen minutes on the phone to Barclays and my order with Apple has now been placed.

There's an estimate of 2-3 weeks delivery online. I don't know if that's accurate.

I suspect it is, yes. I also suspect that "2-3 weeks" basically means "made to order", particularly as you'll find your iPad shipped directly to you from Shenzen in China.

Heh. I got a Lenovo LePad shipped directly to me from the factory a few weeks back. Manual in Chinese, OS in Chinese....

That'd be a shame, but I'll deal with it. I'd presume they're pumping all of their stock into their physical stores for launch, then.

Workmate showed me Sword & Sorcery on his iPad before. It looked beautiful, just my type of game atm, hope they can squeeze it down ok for iPhone/iPod Touch.

I bought a 16GB WiFi iPad 2. Do I sell it on eBay and take advantage of the supply issues, if there are any, or keep it and eBay the iPad 1 (16GB WiFi+3G) and probably get slightly less than the iPad 2 purchase price?

I decided that there wasn't enough of an improvement for me to want to pay full price yet, but given the recent price drops on the 1 that there will be some nice cheap second hand ones on ebay soon.
Probably wishful thinking, but you never know...

The fact that people have said I could get an iPad 1 cheap, makes me want one.

This does go some way to explain my shopping habits. If it's cheap enough, I'll buy it.

I can confirm that the cutting down of the three network sim does indeed work in my iPad 2...

However I chickened out and bought a 3gb one just incase I royally fudged up

do like

which model did you plump for in the end?

Also, I bought one of these to carry around in backpack with, its well worth the pittance it cost:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-F8N277CW ... 823&sr=8-1

A seller was doing them for £8.99 inc postage.
Its for an ipad1, but you get a peice of packing foam which means it fits the ipad2 really well and is safer.

Went for the 32GB Wi-Fi model in the end. It's due to arrive on or before the 18th now. Maybe it'll get here by the end of the week, if I'm lucky.

I'll check out that link.

The one I custom made for my mum is better than that....

(No really, this isn't a "your mum" joke gone wrong. I'm totally ace.)

I don't really get the iPad. Don't get me wrong, I love spunking away my disposable income on shiny tat but this....IDGI

I felt the same until I picked one up and used it. As for the case, £9 is easier and cheaper than custom making.

Be careful of slip cases, a slip case is how I got my one and only scratch on my iPad, less than a week after buying it!

Yup! bloody annoying!

A slip case is more likely to rub any trapped material against the iPad, for obvious reasons.

The estimated delivery date has now jumped to the 14th, 12 days ahead of the original. Tracking this is probably going to be more fun than getting the thing itself!

They don't 'alf move quickly getting it from China to Germany, as Trousers mentioned at the weekend.

We had a TUAW tipster who says his is "out for delivery" this morning, having ordered it a few minutes after orders opened.

When did orders open, anyway? Midnight? Trousers says he ordered at ~00:40 on the 25th, about eleven hours before I did, and his was shipped late last week; I presume he'll be receiving it soon.

It's slightly annoying, really. I didn't realise they were going to open orders up that early, and I didn't receive the notification email from Apple until 5AM. I would have been awake at that time, but obviously didn't think to check until the morning.

Any indication of street stock of these yet? I want to have mine swapped out for model that has revised the screen bleed issues of the first street batches.

Mine was almost delivered today but the wife was out so I was able to ring UPS to arrange delivery to my workplace tomorrow.

My order stated 12:39 AM. I was watching Burn Notice on the laptop and flicking between that and the website every so often so the orders could potentially have opened up even earlier.

Hey, I was right, this is fun.

Interesting choice of direction, UPS.

edit: and now it's back in Germany and due to be delivered tomorrow. I'm doubtful, but who knows!

Heh. It's out for delivery now, having arrived at Deeside this morning. Fuck knows how they supposedly got it from Donnington to there in six minutes, though

Now, which part of the fourteen-hour delivery window will it arrive in?

In an entirely unexpected and shocking turn of events - UPS done fucked up.

Changed delivery address yesterday, was told would all be fine for delivery today, tracker worryingly quiet today so rang up and am now told will be tomorrow as umm because of stuff. If I hadn't rung would probably have sat there for a week or so no doubt.

I have been promised a call within the hour - what are the odds of that happening eh?

Couriers - the very epitome of reliability.

They did ring me to be fair and confirmed delivery will be tomorrow - someone has just plain fucked up giving me the wrong info.

Was ready to get all snippy and moany about it to the guy on the phone and it seemed like he has ready for some backlash but like boohoo - my £500 luxury item will be a day later than I though which is still 10 days earlier than I was originally told by Apple. It's not exactly the most arduous thing I've had to endure recently.

Why wait? Go out looking for some UPS vans, then go ballistic.

Hopefully my smart cover will arrive tomorrow. I presume it's being shipped from the UK but I'm not sure.
