If you're really trying to stick to £100 then the closest you'll get to a viable graphics card at that price point is the Nvidia 1050, which is basically the Pascal version of the 750Ti (which was Maxwell), the 1050 has the same number of stream processors as the 750Ti but with a very hefty bump to the clock speeds. (£110 is the cheapest 1050 on Overclockers at the moment.)

The 1050Ti adds on an extra £30 for not a massive amount more ooomph, you may as well stretch out to the 1060 at that point.

And if you're getting the 1060 may as well get the 1070 etc

The 1050ti seems. Good. Any AMD cards worth considering?

Well the question was asked about a £100 graphics card and you recommended a £140 graphics card that doesn't punch much harder than a £110 graphics card. The 1050Ti makes no sense when the 1060 is £185.

The 1050 and 1050Ti are both 1080p cards where you'll need to nip and tuck the graphics settings to get good framerates, whereas the 1060 is more of a 'just max it out at 1080p and forget about it' card.

My monitor is 1080p. I don't Anti-Alias. I'd rather have frames than shinies

The 1050Ti is faster than the 1050, but not by much, it's whether or not you want to stretch out to £140 for the modest bump to performance the 1050Ti affords, given that you could sacrifice a minor shiny or two to get the same framerates out of both cards.

The Ti does have 4GB of RAM though (as opposed to 2GB), but once again it's whether or not you'll really be pushing into '2GB isn't enough' territory given the resolution and settings you'll be running at.

Obviously there are endless benchmarks out there you can refer to, which generally look something like this:

The 1060 is very nip and tuck with a 970, so a second hand 970 for a decent price would be a good option.

I'm also now looking at more RAM on ebay (pretty cheap, as my ancient mobo takes DDR2) and maybe (at last) an SSD because fuck spinning rust it's 2017 motherfuckers.

I got rid off most of my old parts recently, but I think may have some suitable memory. Will check what it is. (if it's of interest you can have it for free)

I'd certainly take it. According to my notes, the stuff I have is 2x2GB PC6400 DDR2/800. My mobo is an EVGA nForce 780i SLI so it should have 4x slots, and hence 2x slots spare. (And according to its manual, it maxes out at 8 GB(!). Although that might simply be because there wasn't any RAM more sense than 2 GB modules when it was written in -- gulp -- 2007.)

For comparison, the CEX trade-in is £80 cash and £120 credit, and they sell them for £180. £120 is definitely cheap.

Confirmed that I have two free slots. If you have any spare DDR2, Dave (or anyone else), I'd happily take it off your hands.

Meant to look last night (I have 2 sticks in a computer that I think is Ddr2 era, and two more spare that I think are ddr3)

If I don't post anything by about 5pm, give me a prod.

OK, good Sir.

I have these definitely Ddr2 memory sticks, no idea how much memory it is, but I'd guess 4gb, maybe only 2.

I'm not really fussed about money - they were destned to go dumpwards fairly soon anyway, so being able to help out a friend is enough for me. But if it's something that matters to you, name your price.

And naturally, some way to get them to you would be useful.

My 'rig' is now fully upgraded to tip-top last year spec :)

Solid 60fps at max settings in GTAV at 1080p. That'll do nicely.

Hope to actually get some gaming in soon!

I don't think you'll be able to enjoy your games until you've done some benchmarking first.
